THE PVAMU

Oh Shaela'.....
I found this article about a former player from my high school that is now a Cougar now.......you guys should have a very good game..........

Two years ago, he was the quarterback of the future for the University of Houston. Now, instead of throwing passes for a Cougars team with Bowl Championship Series aspirations, he?ll be catching them.

La Marque grad L.J. Castile is projected to be a starting receiver for Houston in his sophomore season. The move from quarterback was made before last season and continued under new Houston head coach Kevin Sumlin.

?Playing receiver is a challenge that I gladly accepted,? Castile said. ?My mindset is 100 percent at receiver. I?m not even thinking about playing quarterback anymore.?

Castile was a star signal caller for La Marque, starting his junior and senior seasons. In his two years with the team, Castile amassed 2,355 yards passing and 1,105 rushing, along with 49 total touchdowns. Those numbers earned him District 23-4A MVP honors in 2005.

Castile signed with Houston and spent his redshirt season developing as a quarterback. However, with the emergence of fellow freshman quarterback Case Keenum last season, then-head coach Art Briles moved Castile to receiver.

He caught just seven passes last season for 106 yards and a touchdown his freshman season, as he was learning the nuances of his new position.

?Getting the route running down is the hardest thing,? Castile said. ?I?ve been coached up a lot, so it isn?t as hard anymore. It makes it a little easier being a former quarterback, too, because I know what holes in the defense to fit into.?

Listed at 6-foot-3, 210 pounds, Castile is the largest receiver on the team. Combined with his 42-inch vertical, he could be Houston?s top red zone receiving threat this season.

Look for the Jags to upset Houston next weekend. :)

Right. lol UofH has some terrific student-athletes. They're some of the best from these areas. :read: They'll be ready to play, I'm sure. I'm not in the know regarding the new coaching staff and their capabilities but I wouldn't count their student-athletes out. So, if UofH has an initial weakness, I'd put it on their coaching staff @ this point.

Don't underestimate them. They're a huge buzzsaw waiting to happen. :)

See thats the difference between SU and Gram vs the rest of yall. SU played Tulane toe to toe when they had 3 very high draft pics. SU outgained them and trailed only by 3 late in the game with the ball plus all the momemtum. SU isn't scared of them folks.

They have 2 weak spots that I know of on defense. :read: :read:

JagTilUDead, what was the final score of the game w/ Tulane? Sometimes, stats don't tell the whole story. Esp when your offense is constantly on the field and isn't scoring. :read:

Yep, I was at that game. They had Mewelde Moore, JP Losman, and Roydell Williams. They also had a terrific return guy that played WR. Our team year that was was not as good as this team. We struggled that year in the SWAC due to injuries coming into the season.

I am optimistic about our chances against U of H. I am also realistic that this aint no easy task and we will have to play mistake free, execute when we get scoring opportunities and don't let the ref get into the game with stupid penalties. I do expect a U of H team ready to play. That brother knows he better win and win big to keep the pressure of him there. So they will try to make a statement. We better be ready to respond to that statement.

What was the score of the Tulane-SU tilt JagTilHeDead posted the stats from?

We killed ourselves with boneheaded mistakes and not taking advantage of opportunities. We had JP Losman on the run that game. Mewelde Moore was the difference maker in that game. I talked to him about the game while he was a Viking a few years ago and he would joke that the SU players were talking isht to him and it was some serious hitting going on. He was like they had much respect for us after that game.

What year was that JR?

2002 season. The score was 37-19 Final. We got out the gate slow. Didn't score isht in the first half and played them even in the second half. It was 20-6 in the 3rd quarter with us driving....turned over he ball. 27-13 in the fourth......turned over the ball and a long fumble return by them for a TD. Moore had 29 carries for a 147 yards. He had a great game. Losman was so-so. Actually he got pulled for a series because he was looking pretty sad. But that was his first year starting after Ramsey had left. We had some chances but just was not good enough at the QB position to capitalize on anything. Hayes had 98 yards WR and Joubert had a good game as well. But Richard kept going in and out of the game dinged up and Anthony Fisher had to play some as well. Looking back on that, I am shocked we able to stay on the field with Tulane with the MASH unit of injuries we had. Hayes was just coming back from his ACL the year before. So he wasn't really the same player he was in 99 and 2000. That Tulane team went to a bowl and won I believe.

Was that the only time the two schools have met?

What that the only time the two schools have met?

We played them in 2001 as well. Patrick Ramsey was their Qb that year. They beat us pretty bad that year. I think it was like 41-7 or something. It was a 2 year deal and we help them put fannies in the stands.

If there's any year to steal one from UH...it's this year. New staff and offense...so, the opportunity is there. The Coogs will give you a chance, but the Jags just have to be ready to capitolize on every opportunity, big and small.

I hear ya, P...Houston's getting better at getting guys from places like LaMarque. So, it's gonna be some hot isht to deal with.

Well JR

Maybe GR should ask SUDied what year was it that yall went toe to toe with Tulane? SUdoneDied said yall were within 3 points of Tulane? Was he including the initial kickoff? From what GR heard, yall didnt come within two TDs of Tulane that day. They were up 3 TDs until they let up. And you guys got a garbage TD at the end of that game to make the score look respectable.

So SUDead

These people are crazy GR. A blind man can see that Tulane eased up and put in the scout team in the 3rd quarter. SU seemed to play quite well against them. Couldn't stop them from scoring but they played aiight against them. :smh:

I was at both games. S.U. had too many mistakes. In the second match up we were down 20-6 after the third quarter. We were deep in Tulane's territory in the 3rd quarter and turned the ball over. You are lying about Tulane's 3rd quarter personnel.......... (if you don't know you should shut up  :emlaugh: ) Melwalde Moore definitely made the difference....

U of H can be beat we just need to minimize our mistakes, the talent is in place this year.....

I don't give a damn what they did against Tulane. Come Saturday they will be playing U of H and they are getting their azzez kick to sleep PERIOD

And this is coming from 2 guys that represent a program that lost to Okra, hasn't won an OOC game in recent memory, and hired a 1-10 high school football coach to head their program while naming him "THE BEST COACH IN THE SWAC"

Sounds like you've got THE SOUTHERN UNIVERSITY confused with texas SORRY university. We know how yall third ward neighbors did yall. UofH beat yall bad, they really kicked your ass, but if you think back to last season, you will see that we(Southern U) kicked your ass worser! lol Good luck in the Lame Day Classic loser!
