North Alabama looking for FCS home

Fixed it for you

Aye man, I remember back in the cut, them ole UNA chicks use to get down for theirs if you went to A&M. Man ole man, we use to ride out there to Florence on the weekends.......... Like ole Tyrone Davis say, "If I could turn back the hands of time".......

What do the SWAC have to offer a team that wants and is used to competing for National Championships. And please don't tell me we play in front of 500,000 fans.

UNA joining the SWAC would be as likely as Delta State joining the SWAC, and we all know in Mississippi, Delta State would never join the SWAC because they love playing for and winning National Championships.

That may be one of the reasons but I think being associated with an HBCU identified conference is a non starter for their alums and fans. If you understand southern culture, nothing else needs to be said.

LOL yall crack me up on this.

even if SWAC sent out the invite letter, UNA might act like they never received it and keep waiting. but it wouldn't hurt to shoot one out there if the SWAC office what about progress.
however, it's interesting how strong we down ourselves. if you don't like it, change it. if you can't change it, talk to the one that can.

What did we had to offer UAPB and A&M? But they're here. Why not offer them? They would be bringing more to the table than A&M.

Thank you. That's all I'm saying. It's just an invite "letter". Just a letter or phone call folks. That's it. Nothing more, nothing less.

They crackin me up too. I'm picturing a highschool dance and a lot of fellas standing on the wall talking: "Go ask her to dance."
"No!"
"Why?"
"Cause, I don't want to be turned down."

UAPB and Bamma A@M were HBCU's LOOKING to join a HBCU conference. A@M was looking to step up like Bamma State and UAPB was a former member of the SWAC if I'm not mistaken. That would be like offering an invite to Langston or Stillman. They would jump at the chance for lack of other oppertunities on the FCS level.

My question is what do we have to offer a NON-HBCU that is used to playing in the playoffs for National Championships like a Delta State, UNA, or even a McNeese or Northeastern Louisana. Look at it from THEIR point of view because all we can offer is a SWAC title.

J83 understandable, but it's just an invite. A piece of paper sent in an envelope with a stamp. They can accept or refuse. No skin off our nose. We sent TnSt an invite and they wasn't even looking our way. This just seems like a bit of reverse discrimination.

I think most of us agree, that UNA in all likelyhood is not interested in joining the swac even though they are desperate to move to FCS. the question is why? it's like a girl at your school that would kiss anyone.....but you! what's wrong you? what's wrong with the swac that UNA, or UNO would not even consider joining, even when they have no other viable options? imho here are a few of the factors.

1. we don't make our teams available for the playoffs. I didn't say compete, but there is no possibility that a team from the swac will be there, no matter how good they are. because we don't have 12 teams in the conference the scg is a post-season game, eliminating the conference from the playoff picture. with 12 teams we could have the scg and the playoffs. get the invite, then turn it down if your school wishes (doesn't make dollars, then it doesn't make sense)

2. we are an isolationist conference that has run from competiton. 9 game mandate has help solidify the swacs rep as a DII conference in FCS clothing. with only 2 games available and some schools not even being able to schedule those appropriately, we never get to measure ourselves against FCS elite. we might the best but no one will ever no it. we might be the worst ( i hope not with doug making $250 - $350k a season & bama state spending $70 million on football in the last 3 years), eveyone will just continue to believe it without any retort from the schools. if we play and beat the schools (pvamu got go get'em) then the reputation of the conference changes. then we can turn down a playoff spot b/c there is no money in it and can say we're better than the teams playing b/c we beat them or at least some of them.

3. are we a hbcu conference or a conference full of hbcus? one says only black schools need apply. the other says the door is open to expasion beyond what we traditionally have had for membership. I hope it's the latter..

 ................ Ya'll know my views.

UNA wont be making a jump to any conference 1AA wise till they get there APR way way up its in the mid 600 right now and no 1 AA conference going to take a chance moving them up yet Terry Bowden did a great job getting kids in but im sure he was getting every random kid that had a issue that could qualify div 2.

Nah...say it ain't so. Under Bowden they were getting most of Alabama, FL St, UF, MS St and Ole Miss castoffs. Many D-2 programs would have the same APR issues.

I'm not so sure UNA would react the way some of you predict. It's my understanding that we wouldn't be eligible for the playoffs for four years anyway. I'd much prefer to play AL/MS teams than TN, Carolinas, etc. A&M is one of the closest schools to UNA. We have a long rivalry that ended when they moved up. But, is the SWAC even looking to expand?

I also have another question. Why does the rest of the conference make themselves ineligible for the playoffs? Only Tuskegee does that in the SIAC, not the entire conference. Why not let them have their games and if another team made the NCAA field, let them play? Or is the SWAC title game during the playoffs?

if the SWAC were to send the invite it wouldn't work they are trying to get were South Alabama and UTSA is I don't see the benefit for joining our conference I know we pack the seats and we get excited about football but they wouldn't join we play for a conference championship thats all.. I always wondered why don't we have a seed in the playoffs can someone enlighten me?

UNALions, welcome to the board. To answer your question...technically speaking, the SWAC is eligible for the playoffs...technically speaking. However, the SWAC Champ. Game pretty much makes it difficult for the conference to complete.

Thank you for clearing up some things. I really wish Duer would send you guys an invite.

Keep in mind the CIAA did invite Chowan University (a non HBCU) to its conference and Chowan accepted.
