North Alabama looking for FCS home

Why would the SWAC benefit from inviting us? Wouldn't that throw off the balance of the divisions?

This is my question as well. I don't see the advantage of adding UNA. Many sports diehards know UNA is a good squad but I bet I couldn't find a person in my family who even knows what UNA is. Also, D2 is D2. You can't operate in D1-AA like you do in D2. You can get MUCH better athletes at the D2 level if you are a good recruiter and your administration is behind your program. UNA would have a hard time getting the same type of talent in 1-AA. What do they offer the SWAC in terms of baseball, basketball, and other sports?

UAPB and Bamma A@M were HBCU's LOOKING to join a HBCU conference. A@M was looking to step up like Bamma State and UAPB was a former member of the SWAC if I'm not mistaken. That would be like offering an invite to Langston or Stillman. They would jump at the chance for lack of other oppertunities on the FCS level.

My question is what do we have to offer a NON-HBCU that is used to playing in the playoffs for National Championships like a Delta State, UNA, or even a McNeese or Northeastern Louisana. Look at it from THEIR point of view because all we can offer is a SWAC title.

...and that means a lot to some people. We could cancel the SGC and move the BC and TDC tomorrow and we still would not be playing for a national championship just like the MEAC is not playing for one. You have 2-3 conferences playing for the National championship. The other 7 or 8 are just sending a team. So those conferences have championships that their players can compete for and boy, are those kids proud of those championships. You can tell that JSU players last year would have been VERY honored to be BCF national champs. Not once have I heard a JSU player say, they wish they could go to the playoffs. We talk about winning the SWAC just like most teams in most conference talk about winning their conference championship. That's just like the BCS championship. You only have a few conferences competing for that. So are the Sunbelt, C-USA, etc.. championships worthless?

All ya'll care about is a worthless playoff and losing money. UNA could join the OVC but they STILL won't be competing for a National championship. When is the last time a team from that conference won it? The OVC ain't much better than the SWAC. The SWAC RPI would improve simply by getting Valley out of 0-11 land.

We invited them about two years ago. It was public record and discussed on here. I know recall TNState ever giving an answer but Duer acknowledged that he had invited them.

Yep...sure did. As I understand it, Teresa Phillips (TSU AD) is all for it. However, the current president is there on an interim basis. A search for a permanent president is underway. I'm told that this is a decision the school doesn't want to make until a permanent president is named.

And she should be all for it. The TSU alums I know HATE being in the OVC and they have not sniffed the playoffs in 12 years and that was allegedly due to cheating. As for JSU, that would make the SHC that much more special and intense as HELL with more that just bragging rights on the line.

My only problem with the adding TNState is that the SWAC will probably want to invite a 12th team and I don't really see any good options there becasue FAMU is not coming, tho that would be ideal. That would leave us with Langston and Tuskegee to choose from. I would actually vote for Morehouse before either of those.

I thought we got our answer when they chose to stay where they were.

Nah, like SOG said, they never gave an answer.. not one that was made public anyway.

And what would the SWAC gain by adding Tuskegee and Delta State?

If the SWAC wanted to make some power moves, they would invite FAMU, TNState, SCState and NCA&T. Outside of those schools, I don't see any benefits. In respect to football, we need schools with fan bases, good bands and name recognition. That ain't Tuskegee and Delta State.

Well, we bring a good fan base, a great band and competitive programs. And no offense to my Delta State buddies, but they don't. They are competitive but their fan base and band are lackluster. Now, Tuskegee, I think they are pretty decent in those areas. But, wouldn't all of these schools fit in the SWAC East Division better? Looks like you'd want one of these and a school like UNO to add to the West.
