NCAA Announces Penn State Penalties!!!

Re: NCAA Announces Penalties!!!

I think Penn State should have suffered some type of punishment from law enforcement or the feds. But the NCAA caved to public pressure. They basically crippled the football team for the next decade. Like many have said, this opens up the door for the NCAA to pinch schools for all types of stuff now. And do you really trust the NCAA, an organization that historically has been inconsistent with handing out punishments, to make fair decisions down the road?

Who do you trust?

Re: NCAA Announces Penalties!!!

Is hoarding a child molester unethical?

10.1 Unethical Conduct.

Unethical conduct by a prospective or enrolled student-athlete or a current or former institutional staff member, which includes any individual who performs work for the institution or the athletics department even if he or she does not receive compensation for such work, may include, but is not limited to, the following:

IMHO, it's one of the most unethical conducts there is.

Re: NCAA Announces Penalties!!!

Still not an NCAA violation according to that massive rule book.

I'm gonna laugh my azz off when the NCAA ropes one of our azzes using this same rule of thumb and these clowns start that YT trying to get us crap. Its damm sure comming now.

Re: NCAA Announces Penalties!!!

not an NCAA violation.... a criminal matter but not a NCAA matter. For example if 10 football players rap a college student.... that is a criminal matter... the NCAA isnt going to punish the school.

Re: NCAA Announces Penalties!!!

MH.
Name me ONE PLAYER that covered this shat up. Name me one player that would walk up to this guy, a BIG TIME PENN STATE Character and tell him to get the hell outta here. Tell me one player that had interaction with this guy. Then give me the names of all the other students that covered this up walking around Penn States Campus.

You can PC this up all you want, those players committed no violations. This is the guilty people covering their azzes. They already know who covered shat up. The Penn State Board and higher ups in the administration. They are the ones that let this guy continue to be on campus........... Not the dang football team.
You keep trying to make this a punishment against the current players. It's a punishment against the school. And it seems that some of yall think football teams operate in a vacuum, totally detached from the university. They don't. This scandal was brought on by Penn State. To protect Penn State. Penn State should be punished. And yes, that includes Penn State football team.

The current players can choose to stay at Penn State or they can choose to transfer, without penalty.

Re: NCAA Announces Penalties!!!

All ya'll talking about unethical conduct fail to realize that the NCAA one of the most unethical organizations in this country.

It restricts student-athletes from earning one dime while in school with some B.S. idea of amateurism. Then it punishes 80-something football players for the next four years for crimes none of them committed.

If these same 10 athletes were involved in a grade scandal and administrators didn't report it to the NCAA would the school be punished? Is this a criminal matter that the local DA may prosecute? We all know the answer to those questions. Both bodies can do their own thing.

How is it not a punishment against the players who did nothing.

Punishment against the school would have been actually punishing the Penn State Board, and administrators that did the covering up. They still there and employed. Punishment would have been a fine double or tripple that $60 Million. $60 Million ain't shat for Penn State. You want to take bowl games away fine because that is money that won't go into their coffers either. But vacating wins from players that did nothing and committed no violation is bullshat.

That $60 million fine ain't no more than 20 checks from 20 big time donors for $3 million each. Hell..........They probably got that out of all those booster clubs petty cash fund. :smh:

Re: NCAA Announces Penalties!!!

Jo Pa was the Football coach, the others were administrators - this is with in the purview of the NCAA.

I was surprised at the harshness of the penalties.

If any other university's sports programs and administrators condones the molestation of children - they deserve this.

To the current players that you were concerned about, vacating wins would probably mean little to nothing.

That penalty is for historical purposes.

Sorry but Paterno is in fact an administrator. I agree with your perspective though.

that would be an NCAA violation.... it would have to do with PLAYERS eligibility.

They get into those situations knowing they are not getting PAID. The trade is a free education, the same thing that any other STUDENT gets. They can always opt out and do soemthing else and no one is forcing them to play collegiate sports. And how is this different than the USC case ... Bush and that coach were gone .... the players left and Lane Kiffin had to deal with the punishment because they represented USC at that time. This is nothing different.

Right MH.
You still have not told me one violation any player committed that would neam the taking away of wins............from 1998 to now.

As for historical purposes............... this is a punishment PRECEDENT........ A NEW MEASURING STICK. I wonder what punishment the NCAA will be handing down from now on when teams and players actually commit violations. It is gonna be but ugly.

Re: NCAA Announces Penalties!!!

that would be an NCAA violation.... it would have to do with PLAYERS eligibility.

It would also be theft and I'm pretty certain that the DA would prosecute these students. The NCAA would also have the authority to levy a penalty on the entire program for concealing this information.

Kendrick,

When a person argue against the sanctions the NCAA levied against Penn State, it makes people wonder if there's other reasons why that person would make such an argument.

Re: NCAA Announces Penalties!!!

Right MH.

c'mon 83,
You know current players on the team won't be losing any sleep that a Penn State win from the 1900s is now being taken off the books.

Re: NCAA Announces Penalties!!!

MH, those bylaws you posted had to do with conduct related to sports and player matters, not ethcial issues that are to be handled by law enforcement and the judicial system. You're getting the two confused. The word "ethics" is confusing you.

If you are worried about what the NCAA can do after this, then this was exactly what the NCAA wanted to do. Now, schools and teams HAVE to be more meticulous in who they hire, who they recruit, and everything else because of Penn State.

As for your first part, this is the first time a coach has been implicated in something like this .... from that point of view, who can you levy the penalty on? Pete Carroll was in the NFL when his crap came through and they couldn't do a damn thing to him.

Penn State got this particular punishment for several reasons ... including Paterno can't be punished, he knew of the actions of a man HE hired and keep them quiet. Several other administrators knew of this and did the same. Their punishments will be via the legal sector. However, the NCAA, whether I agree with them or not, has the right to serve as juror for schools under their jurisdiction. Normally, the school is allowed to act of these, but because of the scope of this, with all of the school's involvement negatively, they could not in good conscience allow Penn State to levy the punishment against themselves. Their creditability has been placed into jeopardy by themselves!

2.4 The Principle of Sportsmanship and Ethical Conduct.

For intercollegiate athletics to promote the character development of participants, to enhance the integrity of higher education and to promote civility in society, student-athletes, coaches, and all others associated with these athletics programs and events should adhere to such fundamental values as respect, fairness, civility, honesty and responsibility. These values should be manifest not only in athletics participation, but also in the broad spectrum of activities affecting the athletics program.

Re: NCAA Announces Penalties!!!

Obviously, it's confusing you. If you can't see how unethical it is to cover up for and enable a child molester to keep preying on kids.

It's also confusing to child molesters, such as Jerry Sandusky. Maybe there is a reason why some folks on here are making the argument that the NCAA shouldn't have gotten involved.

I pitty the next school that gets caught cheating or something like 100 plus violations that are directly tied to the team/athletic department. If you thought it was a dictatorship before, man oh man, wait until the shoe drop on some of these schools under investigation and or waiting on punishment now.

As for the Pete Carol Part, Joe Pa is dead.......... whats the diff? Petes violations and what USC did was direct team violations. Why didn't they make USC pay all that money back on top of stripping them of the title National Champs. Why didn't they bann Pete from College coaching for the next 20 years since they took 13 years of wins from Penn State players that did nothing. :noidea:
