NBA Trade: L.A., Dallas and Utah

I think Dallas came out best with these trades. The addition of AD makes them taller and longer following the current trends in NBA basketball. LOL…It will be interesting to see Bron and Luca sharing the ball.

I keep hearing folks say Dallas will be better in the short term. I just don't see it (they're currently the No. 8 seed in the West)—not after trading away their best player and leaving Dallas with just one offensive creator, Kyrie.

LeBron and Luka will feast because LeBron has no problem deferring to anyone and thriving in the playmaking role.

Good point!

The Bulls are the worst-run franchise in the NBA.

The GM said the team was trying to make the play-in to explain why they didn't sell at the deadline. Chicago is ONLY THE 10TH SEED BECAUSE THE BOTTOM OF THE EAST IS TERRIBLE.

That's stupid because they could have gotten a ransom for Luka instead of 2 players and 1 first round pick they can't use until 2029.
How could they get a ransom? His contract would be up, he could have not signed a new contract and walked away. The Mavs would have had ZERO leverage.

You honestly think Luka would have walked away from a $350 million super max?
Nope, Luka would have absolutely taken the bag. But what if the Mavs didn't offer him a super max contract? He could say no thank you and walk away. What would Dallas get in that scenario?

Luka, is an exceptionally talented scorer, but he is not a leader. An upper mid market team like the Mavericks can not afford to give a super max contract to a guy that is not committed to the game and the team.

Their have been rumblings of Luka's behavior and attitude towards the game for some time now.

No one on the team or in Mavs management have been able to get through to Luka. I hope LJ can help him become a leader and superstar he has the potential to become.

I truly believe this move will work out for the Mavs. The revamped team already looked better until all 4 bigs got injured. Which looks suspicious to me. I'm wondering if it's a team tank to improve draft positions.

Go Mavs!

Many of the Mavericks' statements post-trade sound like attempts to smear Luka's reputation and rationalize trading one of the three best players in the league (just starting his prime), who was the catalyst behind the franchise's being a championship contender.

Throughout NBA history, star players have clashed with coaches, GMs, and owners. They've been difficult, engaged in power struggles, and mercurial. But those franchises understood that those players' value to winning (at least the elite-level guys like Luka) and to the organization from a reputation and economic standpoint mattered a whole lot more than anything.

Unless Luka was flagrantly insubordinate like Jimmy Butler, you have to work through whatever issues were present.

I just don't see how it all works out as a win-now move, as Nico Harrison said, considering you trade Luka within the conference to a team that now could prevent you from winning a championship for years to come.

Is it possible the team could be offering their honest assessment?

Yep and player also take their talent to South Beach leaving a team high and dry. You just don't get it. The Mave can not afford to pay a player a super max contract that is not a sure thing. They would not be able to pay many others. Luka is not a 1 man show. He only plays one end of the court and exhibits no leadership.

Do some research it's out there.

You don't need to.

Front offices are rarely honest with fanbases and the media about the state of players or their organizations. Many try just to save face for the questionable moves or decisions they make.

Remember, Nico Harrison was a pharmaceutical salesman and Nike executive before the Mavericks made him GM. He doesn't carry this wealth of knowledge about running an NBA organization any more than you or I do that would justify believing his "honest assessment."

You're comparing a free agent, who has the right to go anywhere, to a player under contract. Nico Harrison said himself that Luka gave no indication he didn't want to be in Dallas long term.

But the Mavs could afford to trade their star player in exchange for an older guy with an extensive injury history ... who, not surprisingly, is now injured.

I enjoyed the game last night. We're you there? The next time you're at a game let me know. Nachos on me!

You just like typing. You don't know 💩
I don't give a piss what teams usually do. Every situation is different. The new Mavs majority owner is new to the NBA. At this point he actually says what he's thinking. Google what he said about the situation. You have never seen me push anything I don't know about. You should have learned by now.

The truth is right in your face for those that are really looking. Name the NBA superstar you have seen this happen with. 👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾.

The Mavs' handling of the post-Luka trade with these leaks is less professional now than whatever the organization accused him of.
Still as I said long ago, their was a reason Luka needed to leave Dallas. No one on the team or in management could get through to him. For Luka to become the superstar he could be; he needs to be with someone bigger than him that can yank his chain like LeBron. That's why I said this trade is partially to benefit Luka and why only the Lakers were an option.

If Dallas can get health they can compete with the Lakers in a playoff series. The Mavs / Lakers game was very close without 2 of the Mavs starters.

"The trade will work out for the Mavs in the short term"

Dallas went from 8th to 10 after the trade (factoring in the AD injury) while the Lakers went from 5th to 2nd.

We know this in Dallas.

If they want to leave Dallas that is the following-
no state income
a city where folks test almost all products we use
5th top television market (Vega is 42)
6th top Latino tv market
Rank higher in education than Vegas

I think the NBA would have a HUGE issue with that. Are they going to give us a new team? I am sure Seattle wants a word.
Making the team bad is not going to work. Vegas struggles with WNBA team and the NFL team that they got.
Who is going to go there?

I think Nico did that trade to get that crybaby in Phoenix-who will FORCE a trade-Durant.
