Name the one SWAC environment you hate getting your butt kicked in?

the band fan

Baseball Fan
FOOTBALL
-----------
Southern - the fans make you hate them off top....then you go in there and go down by a TD or two the fans start again....then the band plays the damn Defense Jags Defense Chant and if it's late and your team gives a late 4th quarter TD, they play Do Whatcha Want To and those damn umbrellas start going crazy.....

BASKETBALL
--------------
The "Old" Valley....you got Jerome Blake screaming 3eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee when one of their shooters drop a three somewhere (it seemed like they never miss in that gym)...then the band, which is right on you, starts playing that annoying Devils Gun Song

Grambling - The crowd is right behind the visiting team, on the court, etc.....the closer the game the better the environment....last year, PV's coach gets tossed for arguing a call and the crowd fed off of that and went crazy...

I never been to every basketball gym. Alcorn is the only gym I have been to. I heard about Valley's gym, and from what I heard it's very loud but you have to hate losing in GSU, and MVSU's gym because they both are small with alot of noise.

Football, SU and JSU. The Jaguar Nation is deep every week and they could get loud. JSU, after the SU game, they always say Go Home and Gome Home, if you lose there in Jackson, then I don't know what to say. I hate losing down there.

I wanna see a stadium together force a false start penalty lol

You are not gonna come to Mumford and get good seats on the visitor side, especially if you are rooting for the visitor team. You just better get that section and wait in 09 to come see a new stadium. No, that use to be the cannon in the endzone. I think we didn't use it in 2004, 2005, or 2006. That was to much noise

Then, why were officials and football players ducking for cover?:emlaugh:

They thought the cannon would hit them, lol like one time this lady and her children knew everytime SU was gonna score, they would have there ears covered, so before a player ran in the endzone, those ears were covered and when they were done making the noise, they would start clapping lol

I would have to say JSU just because of that whole GO HOME thing that the band starts, that ISHT gets irritating as he\\.LOL and that goes for basketball and football for me. Although other schools may make it harsh for you I think JSU is the worst for ME (maybe cause I'm from Alcorn).

When was this?

Baseball players and officials were on the ground in Birmingham ducking for cover. This has NEVER happened in Mumford Stadium. And I have been at ALMOST every game since 1975.

BTW, tbf, I would agree with you and add for Southernites in football it has to be Jackson State and basketball it is most definitely Alcorn!

SS, they are talking about 96 or 98 I believe. I think this was outside the stadium involving the EBS as I remember it. It was the same year they claim SU fans cut their brakelines at the hotel. LOL. Half of their team showed up for pre-game warm-ups and the other half arrived a little later before the game. I do remember seeing that part. The gunshots were not in the stadium either. It can't be no worse than the LDC I went in Houston in the 90s when we all rolled on to the field at Rice Stadium because somebody thought someone had a gun... Heck I ended up running with some of the crowd across the field and ended up on the PV side. LOL.

It did happen, I'm ashamed to say! I think it was the SU/JSU game in '01 or '03. There was a fight by the tennis courts and gunshots were heard and the teams and officials laid down on the field. Personally I didn't hear any shots, but after that game they stopped all of the foot traffic on the south end behind the scoreboard. Thats when they started blocking that section off, because it would be 200 people standing there watching the game.

I saw the whole thing, from my seat in the student section. SU pd fired warning shots to stop some greeks from fighting. The incident happen by the tennis courts.

JR, I was there and it did not happen in the stadium and players and officials were not ducking. And like MH, I am sitting back waiting on their responses. When I was in undergrad, there were 2 shooting incidences in Jackson and 1 outright brawl. Never stop me from going to Jackson for the games and I never blamed JSU students or the university. But you know....

Yes Foundation, Alcorn and Southern basketball games in the 70s and 80s were NO JOKE. I loved going up to the Reservation for bball!!!

Yeah, that was my whole point.......it wasn't inside the stadium........now I did see some JSU players react though. Don't remember any officials ducking. But I am sure we will get plenty of JSU responses.........well maybe. I don't know if ole GR is posting right now. Robber will though.:hat:

Football (JSU) -we owe yall mofo's . I still hear that Go Home. :smh:
Basketball (Alcorn/JSU). In the 80's I remember the news showing SU shooting free throws @JSU and the fans shaking the goal. :smh: My very first trip to an Alcorn/SU basketball game@ Alcorn, I remember Rufus Porter, Chris Scott, and Micheal Ball (former SU players) during the 80's(Avery Johnson era) fighting Alcorn's football team.
Non-Swac football( Famu) Almost like mumford. Small visiting section, rowdy, shat talking fans.

They've ducked for cover in Memorial also.

LOL. Shole have and in Houston and in other places............we(SU) just seem to be the only ones folks want to remember.

Hell I remember a JSU vs Valley game in the early 80s were it was big melee on the vistors side. Remember my old man saying look at them fools over on the Valley side through the binoculars. Folks got arrested it looked like. I had to been about 15 at the time. Somebody had a gun and some other cat had a knife on him or something to the effect. My Dad in typical JSU fashion blame them folks from the Delta coming down to Jackson being drunk and disorderly.:D

Well,I was not there but I HEARD it went like this:

After the crowd was already hype after the pre-game band battle (since our team was late thanks to those attempted murderers at Southern) , the game was hype and all of a sudden gunshots were heard. The teams laid flat on the field and the fans ducked for cover in the bleachers. Then a cop chased somebody from one endzone to the next  and when they made it to the other side of the endzone, the stadium got quiet for a second and the BOOM started blasting, the crowd got back up and started rocking like nothing had happened...let's play ball!!! :jump:

Unless that was before 1987,the first year I started going to SU games religiously, and not within the last two years, which other things have taken the place of every weekend SU football for me, this did NOT happen IN Mumford Stadium ..... maybe outside, but not in the stadium structure or field of play itself. I remember this night as well and that moment of silence right before the Boom cranked back up.
