But There is no need to merge those two schools because its reasonable for them to have two schools in one county. But if you look across the state, there are a lot of county schools and we are at a disadvantage in the delta because we have so many schools and that spreads the talent out tremendously.

I think it starts up top with administration.Administration is very important in having successful athletic programs.
 



GHS was ok when my cousin Phil Short took over. But then he left and went to GA, and things kinda went south. I can remember when GHS was ranked in football, basketball, and baseball. The kids are still playing basketball, but the other 2 sports are taking hits. Just can't understand why the kids are not interested in football anymore.

Even in Coahoma, we really need one high school. All of the high schools are already in Clarksdale, so we shouldn't have the distance excuse.

That's a great point. A lot more convenient than Sunflower (longest county in MS) or Bolivar (2nd largest county)

(I don't know about the whole Coahama Aggie/CCC being an HBCU as to whether they can be merged or not)

I'd think that CCC would rather give up Aggie since they're supporting them financially. Sitting here imagining what kind of powerhouse we'd have up there if they combined all 3.
 
With Bolivar County it's a racial and power problem. See we could merge Mound Bayou and Shelby and make it North Bolivar County High, and Shaw with Ray Brooks but that will leave Rosedale out and you see how Cleveland is fighting a merge so what's left to do. One reason the schools in Cleveland can field a competitive team is due to the fact we have a good and thriving park commission and both schools are fed through their middle schools Margret Green is right next to Cleveland High and it has an ok program D M Smith is right behind East Side and it has not lost a game in 4 seasons so we can maintain in that area and besides we both have alums that are willing to do what it takes to get the job done.

Now the other schools are at a disadvantage because they are all in small towns and do not have the resources nor the revenue but they do what they can with what they have and for the most part they win. The Delta is very deep and very competitive, if we can ever get over that hump more often than not then we as a whole would be a force to deal with.....


Oh and coaching has to improve all across the board that's another problem.... WE GET OUT COACHED

I like the idea of a Shaw/Ray Brooks merger to make a South Bolivar High but as you said, if the Cleveland schools can fight a merger, then so can the other schools. If Greenville High and TL Weston merged, then CHS and Eastside as well but as you said, race won't allow it (at least for the time being).

I think Bolivar County has/will have only have two school districts with the bill passing in 2012. Our SD (Sunflower) finished consolidation in 4 years after the bill was passed in 2010.

And yes our coaching has to improve but most of our SDs don't have the budgets/boosters like South Panola or even Charleston to get to that level (Greenwood is getting there). I still remember going to Bruce and those cats DOMINATED us lol

Pearl with ball 28 seconds 4th down and 1at 42 went for it didnt make it. Wc taking over 22 seconds.

45-42 WC.........3 SECONDS.
PEARL should have punted and went to OT. Coach went for it at their own 42 on 4th down and 1 with 28 seconds left. WC stuffed the run up these the middle for a 1 yard loss. Blame this pearl loss on the coach. Pearl came from 2tds down to finally take lead with 6 minutes left.
 



Hattiesburg came back to defeat Laurel, 34-32, to retain the Lil Brown Jug. The Tigers were down 32-6 with 3:32 left in the fourth quarter, and absolutely stunned the Tornadoes in front of their home crowd.

They have already combined Shaw, Ray Brooks and Rosedale into one district as well as Mound Bayou and Shelby but we still have 7 high schools plus Bayou Academy

Oh Ok. I wasn't sure when it happened but I knew it was going to happen. Yeah 2 school districts but still 7 high schools for a county of under 35K people (whereas we only have 2 with a little under 30K. Drew HS had closed before the state took them over in 2010). I'm sure down the road the state will try to merge them if any of them start slipping academically.

Now the #1 ranked University of SP come to town friday night at 7pm. This schedule is murder row. Nobody dreamed they would be undefeated at this point.

If you in the metro area, you can see the game on WLOO. .........Togaloo college station at 7pm.

Madison central and Callaway are no longer undefeated.

South Panola ran through MC and Callaway got beat by Forrest hill last night. Only thing good for MC was the fireworks display at the end of the game. lol

WTF. Callaway lost to Forrest Hill. What in the world? I remember that game would be a gimme game back in the day.
