Mississippi High School Football Championships leaving Jackson!(Memorial Stadium)

I don't know about all these reasons y'all posting, but once I saw JSU's name all over Memorial, I knew it would only be a matter of time before them necks quit coming to Jackson. If JSU bought the fair grounds, they'd move the state fair to Oxford or Starkville.

Since Mississippi and Alabama don't have an NFL franchise in their States, the next best thing would be a SEC football facility. What other school in Alabama would out bid Auburn and Alabama for the high school football championship?

Exactly. B-Ham is an urban city like Jackson so them doing that is not a surprise.

Like some have said this was strictly about not wanting to come to Jackson and playing in Memorial once JSU got control of the stadium (I still say that JSU stands a good chance to get back in rotation once they get their new stadium).

I hope I'm alive to see a black governor (or I will just take a Dem or Independent governor lol) here in Mississippi because as long as these necks are running the state, we ain't never going to catch a break.

MSU, OM and USM all stopped playing games in Jackson long before JSU had anything to do with the control of the stadium. This move has been a long time coming and to think it was precipitated by JSU getting control of the the stadium is short-sighted at best.

The whites still want Jackson...they just don't want US to have a piece of it. They are going to drain its resources and hope WE beg them for help. Then slowly but surely, the good ole boy system will give them control.

So are you saying this move wouldn't help Ole Miss and Miss State recruit in-state kids on how they allocate their resources? I'm sure they spend some time and money on recruiting top in-state kids. What school wouldn't want to spend less time and money on recruiting kids while still achieving the same results, which would free up resources to go after out-of-state kids? I wouldn't be surprise if this wasn't one of Freeze's plans from the start.

That will be the by-product. It is not the motive behind it all.

Yeah, right. You give these good ole boys the benefit of the doubt and they'll keep taking from you. This has much to do with race, not necessarily JSU.
Heck, they have the private school playoffs with predominantly White teams being played at White schools, but now you have teams with 70 percent to 80 percent Black children playing at all White schools? Not ONE Black school is in the mix? Please.

OK....follow me here...I say this has nothing to do with JSU. You say, "Yeah, right". Then almost the next sentence you say, "This has much to do with race, not necessarily JSU".

OK bruh. LOL

Oh and another thing....since the stadium is located away from campus, most HS kids don't even associate it with Jackson State, anyway. Yall in here talking about the JSU President should say something....what should she say? We're talking about 10 teams...really 6, because 2A and 1A don't have many D-1 prospects to offer in the first place. We have high school day. We have a recruiting staff that hits the MS roads hard to showcase the University. We recently had an Academic National Signing Day in which we showcased incoming freshmen who will have academic scholarships at JSU.

We'll be alright. If you all have concerns on JSU's behalf, you can individually voice your opinion to the MHSAA. I'm sure they would appreciate that!

According to an article in the CL today, Jackson would lose millions if the MHSAA Football Championships leave the city. Also, in that same article it estimated that the 2013 games had an estimated 2.7 million economic impact in the city even with 2013 being a year of very poor attendance due to the unusually bad wintry weather. Therefore, 2.7 million+ in economic impact is nothing to blow off for the city of Jackson with its multiple infrastructure projects that are in progress or on the books. I do not believe that money is what the "big three" is after but rather a little more prestige and a broadening of their sphere of influence.

SMH. You have no clue. They ain't as interested in Jackson as you think. They ran off in the first place. The white folks in MS in general are just dumb. Bottom line. If they could have seen straight, they would have never left Jackson and worked to make the city a viable metro. The progressive young white folks not only moved from Jackson. Alot of them that were in school with me moved from MS totally. They left their dumb arse fellow white people to their non progressive ways and moved to other cities. I just had my 30 year HS class reunion (Callaway) this past summer along with our rival HS Murrah who had their's the week after. The amount of our WHITE classmates from 84 are no longer living in the state. I am sure that is the case for many of them folks from my era at the other schools. We just have bad politics in our state. How the Gov can sit in Jackson and allow the capital city go down is bad as well. He should be working with the Mayor and City Council folks to keep the STATE CAPITAL on point. Most Governors in other states don't want their state capital falling through the cracks. But since none of THEM except for a few young white folks who are moving to Downtown Jackson or Fondren area, they don't care if Jackson ever succeeds. The only entity they care about in Jackson in the Medical Center. But you would think they would try to make the city better.

The big question is are ya'll Mississippi folks going to do about this! Ya'll need to come together and fight this. Adding Roberts Stadium at USM and leaving Memorial out of this rotation is just pathetic.

Stadium size should have nothing to do with it. Why play the games in Memorial if you only need to accommodate 20K people?
Location should be the determining factor and in that regard, Jackson wins out.

LOL @ LS. I don't think folks understand this is not a JSU thing. This is a Jackson MS thing. The person who needs to speak up is the DAMN NEW MAYOR!!

This is just another attempt to take MONEY out of the city of Jackson. You have explained it well. I would not keep arguing with folks who can't see this is bigger than JSU. JSU name just happened to be on Memorial. Even if it was not. Them white MHSSA mofos would still try to move their title games out all BLACK Jackson, Ms and on to the campuses of Ole Miss, Ms State and USM. The Jackson Mayor and City Council should be fighting for it. As well as the JPS Superintendent who schools are part of MHSSA.

So true. Them folks don't care about any economic impact that this move will have on Jackson simply because it is Jackson.

If a high school like Canton or Ridgeland had a 20-25K state of the art stadium comparable to the ones in TX I don't think they would have moved it to the campuses. Just as long as it is not in Jackson.

I said earlier that I don't think they would move the basketball championships from The Big House. I still don't but I wouldn't be surprised if they did

Bingo. This has nothing to do with JSU. JR, being from Jackson, understands what is happening in the city and sees the big picture. The rest of you are just flapping your gums. LOL. When the MHSAA makes this decision final, it won't be about JSU. The Metro area and The State of MS have been going out of their way to make sure that Jackson fails for YEARS now. They moved minor league baseball from Jackson. There's not even a noteworthy movie theater here. New malls and housing developments are being built outside of city limits. There is even a plan to expand on expressway that will take you from the Jackson Int'l Airport (which is not actually in Jackson), and loop around the entire city....you can get off of a plane and not even know Jackson exists. If there's anything that The City of Jackson residents (Black and/or White) should be protesting, it's the overall economic development that is not happening in the city. But even before that, there are a lot of things the city needs to work on internally, like blight and infrastructure. That must be in order if you want to make the city marketable.

You shole is right LS.

Good info Mace. Just another attempt to swipe something from Jackson. But you know, I will not underestimate how they would grow the state championship games when it hits Oxford and Starkville. Them local white folks may come out to see good HS football. Which means nice money for the Big 3 schools. Don't know about USM and how their local area will respond to hosting it. But I can see Ole Piss and State going all out on hosting that event and making it seem like it is FAMILY Friendly vs dealing with old dangerous Jackson. I see the underlying tones of this move. They ain't fooling ole JR one bit.

I think the coaches in the south of the state will complain about this. .. a 5-6 hour drive is going to seem unfair if they start taking their teams there and they lose.

No they will not. USM is part of the rotation. So they will get their chance to play closer to their area when the games come to the USM's stadium.

Bottom line is they are taking Jackson out the loop.

But don't USM only get like ONE. I think they are gonna get tired of those trips.

That would be a very bad excuse for losing. lol

Very bad excuse!!!! Evangel Christian, Bastrop, Neville, and West Monroe won several state titles and they all had to travel a long distance to New Orleans. A lot times they travelled to New Orleans to beat teams from the New Orleans area. John Curtis is probably the only New Orleans area team that have remained consistently dominated.

Exactly, folks would laugh that coach out of town for using that excuse. lol

Yep. Hoops is next. Now if that happens, you will see JPS, city councilmen and others raise all types of hell.

LOL. I don't know if they care about the Hoops or not. Not as many white fans on MS HS Basketball. But you are right. All hell will break loose in Jackson if that happens.

One reason why I slammed SUjag because he tried to make it a JSU issue when its not.....

Why? Football has more fans and therefore brings more money to the city.

If y'all are just going to give up on football and chalk it up to "racism", then I don't see why they would raise any hell about basketball. Seems that it would be just as easy to do nothing and blame that on racism too.
