Members of Alabama A&M football team kneel during national anthem

Anything to hold on to the little thread of fan support he has left. Spady knew he was going to lose this game. He's been deflecting to social issues all season.

So, in other words, the players only did this to save Spady's job, huh? What a slap in the face to the players. Damn.

You think Bear Stearns employees only developed bogus mortgage securities to keep their CEO employed? No...they did it because it felt like a good idea at the time.

That's why Wells Fargo created all those fake accounts to help the C.E.O.

I know there is a lot animus about Spady from AAMU fans, but to suggest the players kneeling was orchestrated by him in an effort to gain some good will is a real reach when other HBCU coaches have gone on record saying they also supported national anthem demonstrations and would support their own players if they chose to participate.

The environment at HBCUs would be more conductive to athletes engaging in demonstrations than at a PWI.

More conductive? Yes.
Productive? No.

The players are only doing what they think is right. But nobody is affected by the players preaching to the choir. Remember, demonstrations are about causing discomfort in order to force change. The only demonstrations that would move the needle would be by SEC players

I can't speak for other schools, but Grambling plays the negro national anthem first before playing the national anthem.

Does the band play it or do they put a mic up to a phone recording like Prairie View?

I was pretty hott just prior to the shsu game after witnessing the disrespect in the east side stands.

LOL...our team boycotted because of Doug. Hell they could have played but as I and a number of people wanted to know...WHY THE JACKSON STATE GAME.

Nobody has answered this question. Also, the 22 players who did get on the bus stated that the originial plan was to boycott their own homecoming but someone said that wasn't wise because alumni would be mad at them.

Let that set in for a minute.

Kids can easily be manipulated. Simple as that.

Yup. If the Grambling kids wanted to maximize the boycott, they should've boycotted homecoming. I totally agree with you.

Especially when on scholarship...

It's unlikely these players in this situation were manipulated considering, teams, individual athletes and even cheerleaders have engaged in similar demonstrations on their own volition.
