What was Melendez record against JSU the past 5 years? He should have a winning record against JSU even in their championship years. I understand the celebrating now that he's gone. FIU got a proven successful coach. I appreciate and salute coach Melendez. If his replacement can retain returning players and maintain the program, we'll continue to dominate JSU. Currently the ownership papers belong in Montgomery.

i wasn't worried about no "on hit wonder". JSU baseball is the most consistent program in the conference.

That's a huge accomplishment because baseball is a game where anyone can be beat. Heck, nearly every year there is a college team that beats a MLB team during their spring training.

Alabama State was the only D1 school to go undefeated in conference play. Coastal Carolina was the next closest with the least amount of losses and they won the whole thing.

People who never played a college sport will easily dismiss this as a feat, as someone who played, this is a huge accomplishment. Even when SU had the great teams of the 90s and early 2000s, they didn't go undefeated.

If using the phrase "not overwhelming" to you correlates to dismissing, then so be it. Like I hinted earlier, Bama State had a good season, but it wasn't that overwhelmingly great when compared to past SWAC champion.
I stand by what I stated in that no team in the SWAC was all that great, so that adds to what I said earlier.
This was perhaps the weakest the SWAC has been in it's history and Bama State fielded perhaps the best team it's ever fielded.
JSU was below average, Alcorn wasn't that good at all and both AAMU and Valley were pure garbage. The West wasn't as strong as it usually is either.
You and others can dismiss that, but I won't.

Nobody has to play the game to not be able to use logic and history. Heck, many NBA, major league and NFL announcers have never played the game, but does it mean they can't comment on the games nor give their opinion? No.
And as far as Bama State being the only D1 school to go undefeated in it's conference, that meant absolutely nothing when it came to their play during the NCAA tournament. They weren't as competitive as past SWAC champions who won in the NCAA tournament.
Heck, during the first game, they looked like they didn't know how to play baseball at all. How soon some of us forget.

Simple question. Who was the BEST coach in the conference this year and last 3 years? What school had best baseball program in the conference? Enlighten us.
 
Well, it has to be Melendez since he won the title this year.
As far as having the "best" program in the conference, the SWAC coaches obviously didn't think so being that they didn't vote for Melendez the past three years as being coach of the year.
One must remember that it took him five years to win his first SWAC title. If he was so great, how did he lose in the tournament four straight years?

I don't select a coach to be "best in the conference" simply because he won the title that year. That's the dumbest thing ever. It's a cop out that allows the conference and SIDs to NOT have to think. The SWAC automatically grants "coach of the year" to the championship coach, all the while, some coach coached his ass off to get his team to overachieve but loose in first round of the tournament. Melendez and ASU baseball won the SWAC East division each of the last 3 years. This year, he did it in dominating fashion. Add to that, 6 years ago, no one had an ounce of respect for ASU baseball. This guy has not won less than 30 games in a LONG time. Just give respect where earned.

You sound super ignorant. First, if you played COLLEGE BASEBALL, you'd know how difficult it is to win a baseball game, especially 24 (28 including the tourney) in a row when you have to focus on academics, riding on the bus throughout the SWAC, and playing 6 or so games per week. Of course you can comment, and sound like a dummy (not calling you one) especially when minimizing a huge feat that had never been done in the SWAC baseball started having championships in 1959. Second, you are right, going undefeated doesn't mean anything when it comes to the NCAA tourney. Because its a new season when the tourney starts.

Just for chuckles, let me as you a question. So my team that did not win 20 games over the course of a season, and beat the defending NCAA champion Rice in the tourney had a better season than Alabama State because we won one game past the SWAC championship? And because we beat Rice, they look like they didn't know how to play baseball (the guy we beat threw a perfect game in the MLB, and they had 3 of the first 9 picks drafted that year).

Dude please. So Bama State is the GREATEST SWAC team of ALL time. You want a damn cookie. Who gives a crap. They played like crap in the NCAA tournament. That proves my point even more that the SWAC wasn't that good this year.
Keep fooling yourself though. Bama State may have been good, but they weren't great in comparison to some previous SWAC teams, including one of the team that YOU played on.
I hope you can at least comprehend that. Good but not GREAT.

Was it that I said that Bama State was good but not great? Was that it? Not the best SWAC team of all time "in MY opinion"? A subpar year for SWAC teams? Was that it or was it that I said this was "Bama State's best team" of all time? Which of those statements were ignorant?
