MEAC uniforms about to undergo big changes

My point is, if the OVC and D2 conferences can make these moves, why can't we?

I'm not comparing the SWAC to P5's. Stop trying to make up stuff.

That scholarly research refutes Blue's claim that apparel isn't a selling point.

MY argument is that if other FCS and D2 conferences can work out deals with UA and Adidas (notice I haven't said a WORD about Nike), then why can't we?

Some of you all sound strangely content with the condition we're in.

No they did not have a conference deal with Adidas. Look back over the years at various schools and you will see some never wore Adidas. Some only wore Russell or Nike or NB.

That's not how he framed it and as J4L stated. Why compare anything swac with anything a P5 school is doing? Do you honesty think that swac schools will then start getting 5 star players?


How did the P5 survive all these years before they went to nike/Addis?

That attracts kids to Oregon, Alabama and Notre Dame type schools over others within their division. We recruit in different circles than they do. Be real.

Well the SWAC shoe and equipment deal with Nike kicks in this year so why in two years can the conference not negotiate and get the jerseys as well? That's all I'm looking at.
Now since you are comparing peers of the SWAC I do believe that's what this thread is showing. Our peers are leaving Russell so why can't we go to somebody else once the contract is up? Not comparing the SWAC to a Power 5 just looking at the MEAC.

Jacksonville State - Adidas
Tennessee State - Adidas
Samford University - Nike

Doesn't Nicholls state have an Adidas contract too?

Prior to working as director of basketball operations at Kentucky, Newton ran Nike’s college basketball marketing department.

Newton said, however, that his history with the company did not play a big role in the decision to go Nike.

“I listened to our student athletes and what they were all asking for, and that’s basically the reason,” Newton said.

As a conference we cant get a different uniform deal while we still have a Nike shoe deal.....after that deal expires (not sure when it is) then maybe we go in a different direction. We have to stop comparing a school uniform deal with an athletic conference deal. The OVC doesn't have an Adidas deal.... We have to see if we are going to go ahead as a conference or let individual schools work on their own... but we don't have a choice until the Nike footwear deal expires.

I understand the current contract constraints. But as far as schools working on their own in the future? I'll believe it when I see it.

Schools had been negotiating with various companies for a few months before the vote to keep Russell for 2 more years. I know for sure TSU, SU, GSU, and I heard JSU were working on deals but the presidents decided to vote differently, likely due to the Nike shoe deal. That deal ends in 2018

It's an upgrade wanted by most players. If the players want such an improvement and the price is feasible, I'm all for it, and I'm not sure why anyone else wouldn't be.

You guys are in your own little made up world. Every contract year we read or hear about the conference negotiating with all of the above companies. Yet you all get on here going back and forth as if they haven't tried to get a deal with anybody else except Russell simply because Russell beats the others out.

You just simply ignore those facts and jump striaght to another silly position that those of us asking you to clarify why you would want less for more. Some how doesn't want the players to have the apparel..

And I say once again, if cost the reason why the SWAC or individual schools can't afford to entertain another apparel company at the end of a Russell contract, then we are in terrible shape with shiddy leadership. Especially when D2 conferences and schools are doing so.

And when the conference goes bankrupt. You would be the first in line bitching about fiscal responsibility or the lack thereof.

FYI: Have you notice the number of D2 programs folding in the last several years? Maybe...just maybe. They aren't that great of an example to follow.

Aye Guys Got 2 playing D1 football 1FBS mid major and 1 FCS all the Kids I have been around consider apparel greatly when looking at schools thats a fact. I hear the convo regularly and its a big deal
 
Birdie told me ASU has packed up all Russell gear to be shipped because of new UA deal. That's just what I heard.
