Texas A&M-Commerce has signed an exclusive, department-wide apparel contract with Under Armour — the first of its kind in Division II — a source told FootballScoop Wednesday.

The deal will begin this fall and last through the 2019-20 athletic year, and will be made formal late Wednesday morning. Financial terms were not immediately known.

As part of the contract, Under Armour will be the head-to-toe apparel supplier for all 14 Texas A&M-Commerce teams. The deal came about through A&M-Commerce athletics director Tim McMurray, who previously served as the senior associate AD for external affairs at Maryland, Under Armour’s charter client.

Don't know the details of that deal but Delta State (also D2) has been with Under Armour for a couple of years

CLEVELAND, Miss. - One of the nation's most tradition-rich NCAA DII programs, Delta State University Athletics announced a new apparel and sporting goods partnership with Under Armour, an innovator in sports apparel technology, and BSN Sports on Wednesday, Feb. 26. The three-year deal is the first of its kind with any of Mississippi's four-year colleges or universities and makes DSU the only Under Armour school in the Gulf South Conference. The deal takes effect on July 1, 2014.

"We are excited to announce a new apparel deal with Under Armour and BSN Sports," director of athletics Ronnie Mayers said. "Under Armour is a world leader in sports apparel and we are committed to putting the best possible products on our student-athletes, coaches and staff. BSN Sports is one of the nation's largest sporting goods dealers and offers exception sales and service."

As a part of the three-year agreement, Under Armour/BSN Sports will provide apparel, footwear and equipment for training and game-day uniforms for DSU Athletics' 13 intercollegiate athletic sports teams. UA/BSN has also agreed to work with DSU's campus bookstore and websites to provide fans access to the gear featured on the sidelines and stadiums at Delta State.

Blue, TSU is a stand alone university in as much as it is not under the umbrella of an university system. I understand what you're saying though.
 



come to think of it no school in the GSC wears Russell & they're D2. So why the SWAC is sooooo azz backwards is beyond me

I think that's what some think will happen.

I can see it from both sides. Most (especially those in the know those being coaches and athletes themselves) say that Russell's material is not the best and that outside of Sharp, our schools don't make that much money from wearing it. Outside of Georgia Tech and USM (1 MAC and 2 Sun Belt schools also wear RA), the SWAC and MEAC are the major D1 schools that are RA clients and promote it regularly but I don't see a lot of RA signage and promotion when I see our schools on TV.

But I do agree that most think if we get with Nike or UA that we will end up getting promoted more and a financial windfall will occur just from signing and that we will end up with uniforms like Oregon (Nike) or Maryland (UA) when in all likelihood we won't. I could see some schools individually benefiting from individual deals (SU, Grambling, TxSU (Strahan connection), JSU, even Valley (Jerry connection)) but I think we're being overly optimistic if we think a handful of discounted unis from Nike that probably would look like Tulane is better than a variety of free unis from RA.

You can see why some presidents/ADs decided to stick with the RA for 2 more years.
 
This longing for the more publicized UA and Nike uniforms is worthless. The UA design does not make a team play better when all else is equal. They don't even look better. Russell will allow schools to design there uniform also.
 
A lot of players want better apparel to play in and wear. It's a selling point.

Russell is damn near bottom of the barrel.

Don't believe me? Ask some of the players on your school's team. I guarantee you most will tell you they'd prefer UA over Russell.
