Let's give THANKS to the SWAC office for getting off their ass and...

Doesn't the conference have it's own operating budget?? Why should the schools have to contribute to site maintenance?

Its obvious the conference has some serious issues with their budget that reflects the quality of all 10 member schools. This is a business and our product isn't being sold because of pizz poor marketing.....they need help.

As someone who has personally dealt (or has tried to deal) with the SWAC office more than once over the years, I think I am more than qualified to give (what I believe) is an accurate assesment of the SWAC office and its leadership...cheap.

There are more adjectives that I could add to describe the SWAC leadership like "unethical" based on a recently discovered business development, but doing so might indicate sour grapes on my part (because I am very sour about it), but for the sake of the conversation at hand "cheap" will suffice.

Most of you already know that many college athletic programs and conferences outsource the mangement and maintenance of their official athletic websites. They do this because it is much more cost effective to have a company with the infrastructure already in place than to hire someone to do all of the work internally. On top of that these programs are getting a ROI (return on investment) because it not only make their office more effcient, it has created a revenue stream.

The SWAC (in a nutshell) is cheap. There is no other explaination for it. It is not like this some new trend that has not been proven yet. Athletic departments and conferences have been doing this for years now. There is nothing for the SWAC to research, it simply doesn't want to spend the money necessary to have a decent presence. Believe me, lack of funds is not the issue.

And there it is. First hand knowledge.

Now, how do we fix it? How do we change this current direction? 2007-08 is fastly approaching. There is time to save the sinking ship.

If nothing more than policy and procedure/guidelines for update is established in writing and accepted, then so be it. This has to cease.

I guess this is my year to go off and say "HALT" the status quo. I'm sure PVers are sick and tired of me bytching about all of PV's problems/ills. lol

I knew lack of funds wasn't the issue and thats why I stated the universities should invest in a quality website. We all know the SWAC isn't going to invest in a quality product, so why is it that all 10 member institutions settle for pizz poor quality?

They don't, and if thats the case then we'll forever be at the bottom of this pile of siht we call a conference.

Mason should be ashamed of himself for allowing JSU to dwell in siht!

Then flip the switch and turn it off.

If you are not going to do something professionally its better to not do it at all. All that does is make you look unprofessional...and cheap...and makes your associates look unprofessional and cheap by association.

There are 9 other SWAC presidents in addition to Mason that have to take the blame for this. This all starts with them. If the presidents don't care, why should Vowels and company care? And since Vowels and company are extremely limited (function wise) as to what they can do because of the presidents how can anything get done?

The conference is still handcuffed because of the Rudy Washington debacle. One would think that the Council of Presidnets would have simply learned from that experience and move forward, but this conference refuses to move forward because it is still stuck on the past.

I agree. Everybody wants to bypass and not hold our SWAC presidents and chancellors as well as their Board of Regents accountable. They are the ladies and gentlemen (leadership) that set policy. If 7 of the 10 SWAC presidents and chancellors wanted efficiency in terms of a presence on the world wide web it would be done a the next meeting. In fact, they could call a teleconference meeting over the issue in a week.

The SWAC presidents and chancellors as well as their Board of Regents, just simply do not view it as a priority in terms of the overall budgetary scheme of capital, policy platforms and vision for the conference and their respective schools. How many of our institutions have a serious updated athletic department word wide web presence?

Honestly, I have simply bypassed the campus athletic website and requested information for the Prairie View A & M University athletics department list serve (e-mail) and attached my information quest with the TSPN website.

How about as investors in the SWAC product, we write e-mails, send faxes, letters and stop going to games and SWAC events if we don't like the product. That will get more done than complaining about. If we voice our displeasure with the ADs, Presidents and Mr. Vowels himself to do something about it, then maybe changes will be made. Because in the end we pay his salary. If fans don't put money into the schools, or go to the games, then the conference won't make any money. It's all about putting pressure on people that will make the difference. If you don't like it, do something about it.

I agree, I think if you recognize a problem, be prepared to offer a solution. I am not condoning any ineffective job performance of the SWAC office, but if we can voice our displeasure in this forum, be prepared to put something in reading to the SWAC office.

Unfortunately, we as blacks have the mindsight of providing an inferior product to people that look like us. if the majority of the people that visit the SWAC website of the lighter persuasion, our focus would be more deliberate.

In addition, you know the saying, "If you want to keep something from a black person, put it in book." I do not know if the SWAC office monitors the number of hits that are received on the site, but guess is that other than the posters on the board, how many others visit the sight. My guess would be not many.

I think those of us who actually visit this site demonstarte our desire to be informed. The percentage of us compared to the masses is small as well. You put your $$$ into demand. output= input.

So in other words you are going to stop supporting your school just to stick it to the SWAC.

Smart. Real smart.

SOG, all I could do was look when GUD read that mess!!!!! I BE DAMNED if GUD is going to not attend events to prove something to the SWAC office. Why would they care about me attending an event hell it's not hurting them it would hurt my school pocket book because I'm on a hiatus because of the conference office ummmm not going to happen!!!! Besides Kendrick have we really determined who you are???? Hell you might be one of them ova in the SMACK OFFICE posting but if so then tell your buddies to come and look over your shoulder and see how unhappy we are about having to hold our breathe to get updates for a place that should be the central point to get info about things going on in the conference......
