Just one GSU question. Did GSU have prisitine facilities in 2011?

89, how much does it cost to maintain the weight room? That is a yearly budgeted item that I know is not that expensive.

After seeing busted seat cushions, mold and mildew on weight belts and shoulder pads that tells me that no one has properly instructed the players on how to maintain and clean their equipment after every use. I'm sure by now coaching staff at HBCU's should know that their players do not have special maid serve to take care of their equipment. Kids these days are lazy and irresponsible. When I was in the military, it was the responsibility of each soldier to clean and maintain their weapon and equipment. Like my drill sergeant would always say, "Your momma is not here to take care of you".

So we can pretty much say the coaches and the players didn't do what needed to be done. They were there year around. And when I say coaches and players, I mean all sports. Because all of the athletes used that weight room.

We lead the league in bad comparisons.

I'm pretty sure the armed forces don't have equipment managers like college football teams do to handle those tasks.

And it is the equipment manager's responsibility to show each player how to properly maintain and clean their equipment. Grambling football players are grown men and they should be responsible for certain things, especially those things that they use regularly.

Whoever is responsible for the poor conditions of their equipment.

interesting Grambling....

even though the walls ain't right, i question if the bench and floor are in an actively used area of the facility. sometimes, folk don't like to though things away. we'll see i guess.

At almost all Division 1 schools, the kids don't even handle their uniforms or gear. The equipment managers do.

But HBCU's don't have the money to have an equipment manager for each player.

Name one school that has an equipment manager for each player. ONE! Not even NFL teams have that!

While the players probably can take care of their stuff, it's not what they are really supposed to be doing. Equipment mangers are the ones responsible for taking care of the football equipment (helmets, pads, shoes (at least issuing out new pair), socks, jerseys, pants, mouthpiece, etc.). You have some middle schools that have more equipment managers an HBCU probably has.

If Grambling cant FINANCIALLY operate as a Division 1 school dropping down to D2 is the best option....

So Grambling's Equipment Manager is not doing the job he or she is getting paid for...

Grambling just needs to re-evaluate its athletic dept and start from scratch. No need to drop down, just take a very hard look at its self and make some tough decisions.

Somewhere down the line, the players have to take pride in their equipment. They are the ones that are using it, right?

That picture of the mold and mildew on the walls of the weight room speaks to a bigger issue. That room is not properly ventilated. If it had the proper ventilation, that stuff would not grow on those walls. Unless they fix that problem, it will continue to happen. Fix that or build a new weight room (which we know they don't have the money to do either).

But they can not just sit there and keep working out in that stuff. Those mold spores start getting into the air and in the players' body...there will be more than protesting going on at Grambling.

No school in the country employs equipment managers for individual players.

Teams normally have a handful of them - a group that include student managers to help out as well.

Running a football program is a massive operation just due to the number the bodies around and all the stuff needed for them to function.

Yeah, but when you play football, as with any sport, equipment and uniforms get worn just due to usage over time in games or in practices. Jerseys get ripped and torn. Helmets get cracks and abrasions on them. Spikes need replacing. So, yeah. It's not as simple as you are making it out to be.

I see a lot of damage that was self inflicted. Our students have to learn that once they destroy something, HBCU's don't have the resources to immediately replace them.

Thank You!!!!

That weightroom ain't that damn old. Smdh.

If We were 7-0 instead of 0-7 would any of this mess be happening....

It's more like climate control instead of ventilation. If the a room is not properly sealed off, moisture from the outside could easily migrate in, therefore causing a substantial amount of moisture buildup that allows mold and mildew spores to grow. Once the building is treated by some type of chlorine or bleach mold and mildew remover, the building would need to properly sealed off with some type of moisture sealant.

Also, the HVAC unit should have been designed so that air throughout the building could properly circulate in such a matter so that the temperature of the air could easily be raised or lowered. A mechanical engineer would call this process a Carnot Cycle or a Reverse Carnot Cycle, basically some type of heat pump. Circulated air that is temperature controlled lessen any chances of mold and mildew spores to cultivate on the walls of a building. After Hurricane Katrina, Harrah's Casino in New Orleans, LA was more concerned about protecting its building from mold and mildew buildup, since the building's water chiller units needed circulate potable water supplied by the New Orleans Sewerage and Water Board to cool down the temperature inside of the casino. At one point, a great deal of New Orleans water system was completely out of service due to repairs and cleanup from the storm and flood caused by Hurricane Katrina.

So, you want them to go to class, go to practice, play in the games, AND take care of all of their equipment?!?! Let's add some more stuff for them to do while yall are at it. Let see...since they play in Eddie Robinson Stadium, they have to take care of the field before and after games AND clean the stands too!!! SMH Get real!

Regardless of 2011, something happens, like the old saying goes, it was the straw that broke the camels back.

I saw the pictures and it's real bad.

Does Grambling have more than 1 weight room on campus?

I know at A&M we have 4 places where the football players can get their weight training in...that includes the student wellness center that was built 3 years ago....

You guys are killing me here. U know what I mean. How hard is it to clean something after u use it. My point was made to keep the weight room clean, not any other place as you mentioned. That weight room is their for the kids. Hell, that weight room has been neglected for some years...so, the issue is not just with this current team.

So, let me ask you all a question. If Gram players decide to practice and play this weekend against Tx South, then what?
