explain....

He didnt come here because he would be sitting on the bench with a notbook and baseball cap on his head.
You all's QB will not win trophies by passing. You all recruit running type QBs for your offense. Not to say that your QBs cant pass the ball, but AJ Memphis would rather have a "Mike Vick" ala running QB for his style of play.

I didn't see the part where they also picked up a starting cornerback from Missouri. BUT, we also got a cornerback from Notre Dame last year and he was HOT GARBAGE!!

This new kid is much better than Hedegman. Taller, slimmer and faster. Hedgeman was about 5'11 210 - much to thich for a QB.

what???? We have had ONE running qb in recent memory... just so happens that he PLAYED every year he was at AAMU and Luke may be all you can remember. Are you telling me Johnny Keith was a running qb? Luke threw the ball just as much as any JSU quarterback did last year.

Johnny Keith? Was he even considered a QB? That dude couldnt hit air when he threw.

And I dont even buy that "Luke threw just as much as any QB for JSU" bit. Naw, dog. Luke ran that tator.

This is a good pickup. I saw Rutland play last season and I was impressed with his skills. He doesn't fit into the West Coast offense and he was a bit raw. He is similar to Oliver, but he is bigger and can throw the ball down field.

JR,

If he is from ATL, you know Comegy used to recruit well there when at TU. He probably already had leg up on the competition.

Honestly, we don't need him unless Oliver goes down. Oliver is perfect for Woody's offense. He just needs a stronger arm and WE need a better o-line. I still don't think our offense has a true identity which could be good and bad (since our opponents don't know what bonehead play we will call next). However, at the end of the day, our offense is fine. We score 30 points per game. We need to tighten up our defensive coaching and that offensive average will surely move up. We clearly have some of the best defensive talent in 1-AA.

Also, no decent QB in their right mind would choose AAMU over JSU.

Luke threw 279 passes, 16 touchdowns.... the only other player in the SWAC that threw more passes was Landers with 293. Oliver from JSU threw 221.

Where's your source? I know that AJ said that he wanted to air the ball out more last year, but I recall Luke running that tator.

I think we have more than 9. We needed help in the secondary. Unfortunately where we need help the most, you can't bring in transfers.

I hope one of the 5 will have the speed to catch Luke... it was funny yet SAD watching a qb outrun your entire secondary for a 65 yard touchdown last year.

DaHill, when it comes to bball, I take what you say as gospel. Honestly.

But when it comes to football, I just don't know. A teams offense is not characterized by it's stats. Stats don't tell when, why or against who a play was called. Were these short passes, screens, bombs?

Look at this:

TOTAL OFFENSE G Rush Pass Plays Yards Avg/P TD Yds/G
----------------------------------------------------------------
1. Grambling State..... 11 1060 2771 700 3831 5.5 36 348.3
2. Arkansas-Pine Bluff. 11 1564 2207 593 3771 6.4 43 342.8
3. Jackson State....... 11 1717 1917 650 3634 5.6 37 330.4
4. Alabama A&M......... 11 1895 1736 713 3631 5.1 36 330.1

AAMU had more plays (but fewer yards) than ANY other team listed. Dude may have passed for more attempts than Oliver but JSU passed form more yards. Our offense sucked for 70% of the season but stats don't tell you that. Everyone on here knows that AAMU lacks offensive coaching and that it is not the place for a good QB.

I didn't see it so hopefully so if you are correct.

However, I don't mind a 65 yard run. Things happen. What I mind is our defensive sets constantly allowing things like that to happen. We certainly don't lack talent on defense. If not for the wrong set (from what I understand), that run never would have happened. In the games I saw (and from the concerns in our prvt forum) we simply need better defensive coaching to match our impecable talent. Unfortunately, it was not until after the AAMU game that our coaches accepted that fact. We shall see how things go in '07.
