If he'd threatened to cancel the rest of their season including the Bayou Classic, or even if he threatened to fine them the Bayou Classic payout, those players would've shown up. Grambling would've seen to that.

And that would have been a good look in the midst of those players going on national TV and airing the dysfunction surrounding the football program and the university.

No, it would've moved Grambling's administration to address the complaints of their players instead of trying to play hard ball when all the President had to do was meet with the players and coaches to work out a compromise but he didn't, so he's just as responsible as the players.
Since he's responsible, so is the university because he, the President, represents the university as do the players.

We disagreed with this back then.. but yeah, those kids should have been suspended for the rest of the season. ... or at least 2-3 games.. including their OWN homecoming.

the president was meeting with the players, thus the reason the coach was fired, but the players, listening to outside forces, asked for him and the AD to resign. he tried for days to changed the minds of the players, but they were manipulated into prolonging the boycott to further embarrass Dr. Pogue and his leadership. Dr. Pogue didn't play hardball with these players by pulling scholarships, because it would have negatively affected UAPB and SU and the national media would've further crucified Grambling. the NCAA rules would have allowed him to pull scholarships without affecting APR and the NCAA even stepped in to assist, because they didn't want it to spread.

Gram should have pulled their scollies after the season and rebuilt from the ground up. They should have made the announcement right after the Bayou Classic and ask the players not to return the Spring semester. If you return then pay your own got damn way.

It is clear some of you are speaking out of hate for JSU or pour ignorance!!!! If you support GSU actions of violating a binding contract and feel JSU is being petty, then the next someone doesn't fulfill a commitment for services; to any degree! made to you or your family, then I'm sure you will carry this understanding and forgiving spirit forward and not seek any form of civil remedy. Surely you will not expose yourself as a hypocrite to the entire board in your response to my post. Because to say anything less than "sure I will be understanding and not hold the contract as binding" will expose your hate and hypocrisy. Either of those two or; your as I stated earlier, your ignorant to the purpose of why people sign contracts.

The message lost is to the GSU players. I would hope we wouldn't want those GSU players to think they addressed their concerns in the proper manner. I agree they had legitimate concerns. Hell if any of my sons were on that team I would be concerned also. But as a man and a responsible man, I would have made my son get his butt on that bus and play the game and then deal with GSU administration. JSU did nothing to those players!!! In the GSU response that clown said we are a family in the SWAC!! Well I hate know that's how his family treat one another by inflicting damage and walking away with an oh well attitude. Oh I stand corrected, we are a "black" conference with tolerance for ghetto antics as long as it isn't amid at my institution. And we wonder what's wrong with our youth today?? To find the answer to that question all some of you have to do is look in the mirror or read your own post.

I speak not just as a JSU Alum but more so as a HBCU college professor who sees every year the decline in academic readiness and personal pride in each freshman class. And it's not just at JSU because I have transfers fro all SWAC schools. Now someone will respond and say I'm too serious about this and it's only smack. To you I say reading is fundamental because this isn't the SMACK board!!!! And as a 26 year law enforcement professional I recognize when someone is hiding truth inside a statement.

Remember, next time you don't get your monies worth just shut up!

You shole is right homeboy. Can't argue with what you said. Those kids should have handled it in a different way.

Lol!!!!!! Yeah. Just bury the program over a protest right? Lol!!!!!

Absolutely crazy! You have lost your mind.

Only a protest??? That shat was way more than a damn protest. That was an embarrassment to the SWAC, Grambling, and every damn HBCU. Poor JSU got caught up in that shat for their facking homecoming. Now they are scrambling trying to cover expenses due to lost revenue from that game. Those weak azz players could have batch before and after the season. They played in those same conditions last year and the year before that.

Grambling folks buried it's own football program and drew others in during the process. JSU needs to stay as far away from such incompetence as possible.

He waited until the last minute to talk to the players. He could've at least addressed them immediately after Doug was fired but he didn't even do that. That was probably one of the major points and reasons for the strike.

Gram sorry azzes are always in some type of turmoil. I remember when I was at Alcorn they were about to lose their accreditation. They hired several folks from Alcorn to assist in cleaning up that shat. Truth be told they are worse off then Valley.

Someone advised those Grambling players to boycott instead of educating them about the consequences of a boycott.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU, IT'S JUST THAT SIMPLE, the university never wanted to hurt JSU or suffer the embarrassment of the boycott, but outside forces had a grudge to bury with Pogue.

Anyone with sense, knows who that someone was. This was never about JSU, it was about someone being bitter and using this fickle new generation.

so are you blaming Doug Williams? do you think JSU should address his part in the matter or something?

There is no hard proof but all the stuff that was going around Grambling at that time it's not far fetched. I would love to see the contracts between JSU,GSU and the SWAC since really JSU and GSU has not contracts between them and it's a conference thing to see the wording first. Can someone post that?:read:

It does not matter who it was. Had the SWAC and the Grambling admins taken a stance that the chickens are not going to run the hen house, then this would have been avoided. I can guarantee you that when Mason was at JSU, he would have shut the whole program down. I am also pretty sure the QUEEN would do the same thing. Right is right, wrong is wrong .... If they had told those kids they were gonna have to miss their own homecoming, they would have been running behind that bus.

I shole wanna know who JR thinks the QUEEN is buddy buddy with. Business is business.

Miss their own homecoming? That would have been laughed at. As JSU is showing now, missing homecoming would have hurt the school more than the players.
