Cool, I see so many kids from my high school, tupelo high, oxford high Itwamba ASH, and South Panola choosing Ole Miss, State, ICC. It's almost like they don't even consider JSU, Valley, Alcorn until they have no choice. Shumpert that now plays at Mississippi State is from N.E. Mississippi (Itawamba AHS). No one from JSU tried to recruit this guy?

:lol: I understand. Growing up in the North Mississippi area, that's all the teachers pushed on us. Ole Miss and State were the king of the crop to them. Luckily I had some friends that had famliy that went to Valley, Alcorn, JSU, Rust and Tougaloo to keep me interested in going to an HBCU. The majority of the people from my neighborhood in my hometown either graduated from Rust or Valley.

Ole Miss and MSU are both located in NE Miss. JSU and Alcorn are not. It's not surprising that a kid would consider a larger school in his backyard over schools farther away.

And Ashton Shumpert or any athlete of that caliber is not going to no dayum JSU. :lol:

The in-state recruits are recruits Harold Jackson & Co. Recruited. (While having to hire a staff at the sand time in a 3wk period). If you ask me they did a great job brining in the locals after ole miss, msu, USM and Alcorn was already out recruiting months ahead.
Go do your research since you know everything.
Go read all the blogs and tweets about JSU football and educate yourself.

One of the reasons is because of money. Ole Miss and State give some of these kids money. TV time helps also.

We already know that. LOL. At least LSU is a SEC and National title contender. The kids in the home state will never win the SEC going to Ms State and Ole Piss. Never going to happen. If it did the SEC would be investigating Oxford and Starkville for violations. LOL.

I told someone earlier today that Ole Miss and MSU are lucky to be in the SEC. They're just filler. But they shole benefit from that SEC connection in the eyes of these kids. They don't say I'm going to play for MSU, they say I'm going to play in the SEC. Carries a lot of weight.
 
Some of you are reaching too.. I think most of us know we cannot compete for the 5star-3 star guys up north but there are some kids that we could get from all these 6A schools in desoto county,marshall,Greneda, Tupelo ect. We don't even try but it may be because we haven't. There are some good kids who end up at Northwest and or the go up to the OVC schools in Tenn.. SMH

Ole Miss and Ms State are going after a few 2 and 3 star recruits that would normally sign with a lower tier FCS school since they have a hard time recruiting 4 and 5 star recruits away from other SEC schools.

That's not really the problem because even a 2-star will have serious FBS offers and be out of our reach. The problem is USM getting borderline FCS/FBS guys late after they've been turned down by other prospects. Several kids on their list should've gone to JSU, Alcorn, etc. They even flipped out of state commits from the likes of FAMU and GSU last weekend. Of course these folks at the CL call them "sleepers" and "under the radar" prospects. I call it what it is - just filling out their class.

They were top-15, top 20 this year, along with the rest of the SEC. As one sports writer put it, 2 years from now an SEC team will go 5-7 despite a loaded roster and fire their coach.

But even in their best years, Ole Miss and MSU will fill their class with in-state 2 and 3 star prospects. Keep in mind a 3-star guy is still very coveted and may well be top 300. A 2-star will be coveted by BCS schools if he plays a premium position.

Yeah I am with you on that. But you are right. That's exactly what they say. I told a kid at the home front one time you would be much better off at JSU than Ole Miss. But like you said, they just see SEC. I was like if you are good and highly recruited why not go play at the SEC powers if you really want to do something. The kid could was like well I don't want to leave and go to far to play. I am sitting there thinking if you want to play in the SEC against the best to raise your NFL stock value but you scared to go compete for a spot on the best teams in the conference because you are wanting to stay close to home to play on perennial losing teams. I just don't understand.

Pretty much. If the state has 4 and 5 star recruits they will get them more than likely. Back in the day, Alabama would steal them when Bear was coaching and then Stallings. This new coach has been pretty active in getting kids from outside of MS and that was indeed a first for them. Especially highly touted ones from out of state not named Eli Manning. LOL. Even ole Peyton didn't want to go there.

They will be good in streaks. Have a couple of years or so of being competitive then they fall off. As soon as Freeze has another year next year like he has recently. He will get offers from a bigger school.

Ole Miss and State have one 8 win season and they have these fools thinking they're on the verge of something great. Mind you combined they have the same number of SEC titles over the last half century as Tougaloo but they're big time. That's why they hounded us(and continue to do so) over firing Comegy just because he wins more than he loses. When you give a coach with a 13-11 regular season record a 1 Million dollar raise and make him one of the higher paid coaches in the country just because he recruits well, firing a guy like Comegy doesn't make sense.

Ole Miss got a 5-star recruit and still wasn't in the top 5 of recruiting classes. Alabama, LSU, and few others are always in the top 5. One year just won't get it. You do realize that there are at least four years of recruiting classes on a college football team every season?
