Jim Tressel resigns as Ohio State HC

Re: Jim Tressel resigns as Ohio State HC...

T. Pryor is about to get the Maurice Clarett treatment at Ohio State. Pryor should have use common sense and entered the NFL draft this year when the QB position was the weakest it has been in years. He let Tressel talk his azz into staying and look at this. He will probably miss the entire 2011 season.

I tell you, they need to start paying the players, at least 2.000-3.000 dollars semester and that will get rid of those crooked people paying under the table, at least for the most part I THINK, but the thing that gets me, now, is that maybe the selling the rings and etc. was "just the icing on the cake" and I think he further resigned, Trussell, because he knew once people found out it would really make him look "idiotic" or at least what he knew was going on didn't get taken care of and lead to more inappropriate behavior, IMO!

I doubt it. Clarett blew the whistle on his ownself. Might be hard to prove Pryor got cars since his cousin is Charlie Batch of the Steelers. Good luck with that NCAA.

Him declaring for the draft wasn't going to help him. Even with his numbers the scouts and NFLers don't like him. Dnice and I don't understand it. He was better than the majority of the Qbs that got drafted this year. Stats and production make Jake Locker look bad. But his demeanor is what kills him even though his team plays hard for him. I guess when you don't grin like some folks all the time.....you get labeled. Dude has produced in the big games at OSU. So him missing next year was not going to help or hurt him. Now folks in Columbus are already ready for the Braxton Miller era to begin.
Pryor is a good kid. Just aint the happy go lucky type folks warm up too.

Some truth to that statement. Because Tressel resigned aint going to stop all those filthy rich OSU alums from doing what they do. As we speak some kid is probably getting something. LOL. Tressel was no different than Cooper or Bruce before him. Woody plain out told the NCAA he gave players spending change if they asked him. LOL.

Re: Jim Tressel resigns as Ohio State HC...

Not only that.........for the same money. Ohio State can pay whatever he wants. Now, I am not an Meyer fan and I actually hope Luke Fickell does well enough to get hired full time. If not, my vote would be for Dantonio from Michigan State. Should be interesting on who emerges as the front runner. But right now it is Fickell job to lose.

Urban is not squeaky clean either. He had a lot of players get arrested during his tenure at Florida. Maybe he wanted out of that. Who knows. I still don't buy he was so stressed. I think he just knew it was not going to be easy living up to winning the SEC after Saban arrived on the scene.

And on that not 'Bama seems to be good shape to take the title next year--I watched their spring game and they look the best from what I have seen and that OL and DL look strong!

A few others will be on that list. Just read the SI article that really made Ohio State force the Vest on out. Tressel is a victim of what goes on at all big time programs. I can tell you for a fact it was far worse during the time I was at OSU. Herbstreit, Robert Smith, Alonzo Spellman and others were there when I was there along with Jimmy Jackson on the basketball team. With all the media and the way folks are these days. They better start paying these kids or everybody is going to be put on probation. The more money made by these schools is going to keep shady stuff going on.

That SI piece is just damning for Tressel.

Pryor is a good kid. Just aint the happy go lucky type folks warm up too.

Not true at all. Pryor could have helped himself tremendously if he would have improved his numbers this upcoming year. I agree about him producing in big games, but that production was still not stellar numbers like Vince Young put up in those two Rose Bowl performances against UM and USC. Pryor pretty did just enough to win those big games, but did not dominate. With saying all that, Pryor was by far better than most of the quarterbacks in this year’s draft. How in the hell did some of those QBs go in the top ten is downright baffling. There is no way Pryor plays another game for tOSU. He better consider entering the NFL supplemental draft.

Re: Jim Tressel resigns as Ohio State HC...

As GSU95 has pointed out already, nearly all this corruption would cease if they would just pay the players.

Maybe, just maybe, the Ohio State situation can help Alumni realize that athletes should be paid for their services. It would shock some of you how much of a refund check some regular college students receive, especially if the student is already on full scholarship at the University.

The only way I see the NCAA seriously consider paying players is if something like the Ohio State situation was widespread in the SEC. The SEC is the current "hoe" of the NCAA Pimp.

As for Tressel, he'll land another coaching job within a year or two. If Lane Kiffen could do it, Tressel should have no problem.

Actually Pryor did dominate those games. His coach just are so damn conservative they never went for the kill shot in games That's what drove some Buckeye fans nuts. In both BCS games Pryor ran for over a 100 and threw for over 200. I always thought Tressel made Pryor play too much within himself at times. Dude throws a pretty deep ball. And with no Beanie Wells this year and last. He had to be the best runner on the team when everyone knew he was getting the ball and he played hurt. The kid gets a bad rap if you ask me. I guess me, you and DNice are the only ones who see it. As for the supplemental draft, I don't know if he can or not. Although he is close to graduating. Good student. If they declare him ineligible I don't think you can put your name in that draft. But like I said, he aint thought of as a good Qb. I agree with you he is better than a lot of Qbs that got drafted. He was going to have light it up this year to even get scouts to think he can play Qb. SMH.

The Ohio State situation reminds me of the ESPN 30 for 30 "The Pony Express".

I have the perfect title for an ESPN 30 for 30 documentary on the Ohio State Situation...

"The Black-eye to the Buckeyes"

"This title is patented by BRAVEHEART123. Any unauthorized reproduction or retransmission without the express written consent of BRAVEHEART123 is strictly prohibited"

This aint nothing compared to the Pony Express stuff. LOL. This was light weight. The cover up was bigger than the crime. And during Woody Hayes tenure, he let it be known what he was doing. LOL.

Notice the folks who do the talking. SMH. Always the ones with some ax to grind. Notice the big names who probably got the most during their time aint saying isht. LOL. Beanie Wells just tweeted his support of Tressel about how he was with the players. It is actually sad, because Tressel players did well in the classroom. Better than what Cooper's did.

Re: Jim Tressel resigns as Ohio State HC...

It don't work like that bruh. Tressel did the initial cover-up. You aint going to get the AD and Prez fired over that. Gee is in his second stint at OSU and raises much money academically. He aint going no where. OSU football and the school is bigger than Tressel. Plus they are going to take good care of him just like they did when Woody Hayes had to be fired. Even Earle Bruce and John Cooper retired from coaching after OSU. LOL. Tressel is taking one for the team and school and if he initially covered it up........he should do so. I still like ole sweater vest but at this point, with the way folks already hate OSU and the Big 10.......he had to step down. Gene Smith a power broking AD that chairs some NCAA committees. He aint going no where. He has done well as an AD there. Besides he is a cool brother too.

LOL I know.. Im just not the fall on the sword type... I have covered some things up b4 and I have realized one thing... To do the cover-up u have to be high up or know somebody high up.. I just dont believe Gene Smith and that nerd prez nor the compliance director are innocent.. All those mofos had to sign off on the 5 players playing in the Sugar Bowl.. I find it hard to believe that they didnt investigate further.. If they didnt look deeper into tressel and all these allegations then they are just as guilty..

Urban is not squeaky clean either. He had a lot of players get arrested during his tenure at Florida. Maybe he wanted out of that. Who knows. I still don't buy he was so stressed. I think he just knew it was not going to be easy living up to winning the SEC after Saban arrived on the scene.

Stress, he had health scare with his esphogial spasms, felt that he was missing out on family life due to being 100% dedicated to doing his job, and couldn't handle being a CEO of the team (like Mack Brown) as his team failed miserably when he allowed his assistants to run the team. Not to mention how everyone was picking his staff apart for head coaching positions. He had to replace almost his whole staff last season while having his health problems. Combine all of that with having to stay atop a super tough conference and hold Florida State and Miami down, he saw that he wasn't going to be able to maintain the program so he chose to step aside.

The plan was for him to try being a CEO of the team while Steve Addazio basically had a live audition for the head coaching position during the 2010-2011 season and to give Jeremy Foley enough time to shop around for some top coaches that may have been unavailable during the previous season. Mid-way through the season it was seen that it wasn't working, so Meyer stepped back in and tried to make several key changes(Trey Burton and Jordan Reed at QB), and they managed to finish 8-5 winning the Outback Bowl over Penn State. Because of that, Foley was able to get Muschamp over to Gainesville within 2 weeks of Meyer announcing his retirement. Everything was set in place about who Muschamp was going to get on his staff and everything.

Alabama looked that way last season too, and look what happened. Look out for Arkansas and Miss. State.

Look for the usual names to get thrown around:

Bob Stoops- very unlikely

Urban Meyer- unlikely, unless he is willing to take a huge hit in the character department.

John Gruden- possible, but not likely

Mike D'Antonio- very possible, but I think he can build a serious program at Michigan State. I think this one will come down to $$$$$

Chris Petersen- will he actually pass on Florida and Ohio State in consecutive years? Remember, his star QB Kellen Moore will be gone after this upcoming season.

Gary Patterson- this depends on how well TCU adapts to being in the Big East.

Greg Schiano- he has been waiting on Penn State for a long time. Ohio State could snatch up a good coach that is just at a horrible place to win.

Wild-Cards:

Mike Reilly(Oregon State)- has gotten the most out of that program. I think he would thrive at a school with unlimited resources.

Art Briles (Baylor)

Kevin Sumlin(Houston)- just to have a minority candidate

Les Miles(LSU)- I know he has turned down Michigan 100 times, but he just seems to feel so unappreciated at LSU despite his excellent record. This season may determine whether or not he chooses to stay put.

You know, I just don't buy it. He will be a traveling road show with ESPN next season. More than he did at Florida. At least he had 5-6 games at home. Notice his statement yesterday. All this health and family thing was to leave Florida. I think he got tired of being there. Plus he actually had more issues with players getting in trouble than OSU did. He said he will not persue a coaching job this Fall season and remain at ESPN. I was like really Urban. He knows Ohio State aint going to look for a coach until 2012. After this season. They already said Fickell will coach the whole year. Why didn't he just shut up folks and say I aint coaching this year nor next year.

LMAO @ Mike and Mike arguing about Meyer going to Ohio State. I hope he stays at ESPN. Not a big Meyer fan.

Why would Meyer take a character hit? Didn't Saban change his mind after saying he was staying in Miami to coach the Dolphins and ended up at Bama. Didn't Bobby Petrino leave the Falcons in the lurch for Arkansas? This is a business. Nobody will give a damn about that. Urban aint from Florida so he don't have to live there and it aint like he has to recruit the Gainsville area. OSU gets their Florida players from S. Florida where they are not huge Gator fans anyway. So all this character hit is made up. Meyer is an arse hole anyway. So he don't care just like Saban didn't care what folks think. The media will not bother him especially now that he is one of them. LOL.
LOL. You really don't know how connected the Stoops are to OSU either. Another Ohio Legendary family. Bob Stoops has a NC team this year at OU. But if he don't win, he might think about it. The Big 12 is now 10 and with Texas getting everything they want from the conference. How long does Stoops look at Texas and say damn, how does this conference just cater to Texas. DNice and I was talking about this yesterday that maybe Stoops could be persuaded to move to Ohio State because of the flux of the Big 12 conference. I actually don't think it will happen but Nice made a good argument on why it could. I expect the other Stoops brothers Mark and Mike to be in the mix. Unless it gets really ugly and Stoops has a bad year at OU. He should contend for NC though with Landry Jones back and that WR.

Gruden is have too much fun on TV

Peterson of Boise State will not take the job after Gee comments and probably would not be offered the job

Patterson of TCU says he likes to stay lower profile. Don't know if he would. Wouldn't be a bad hire.

Mike D at Michigan State. He would be a good choice. Don't know if he wants to replace his friend though. But he would be logical

Schiano would be another one I could see them interviewing

Reilly at Oregon State........no chance and he likes being on the West Coast. He turned down USC. So I doubt it.

Art Briles- Will not even get a phone call

Kevin Sumlin- he might get a call from ole Gene Smith.

LES MILES..........you got to be kidding. He is a Michigan man. A Michigan grad will never coach at THE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY. That would get Gee and Smith fired immediately. LMAO. Miles would have to turn his Michigan alumni card in. No way this happens.

The name you forgot is OSU alum Bo Pellini. There will be an effort to go get him if Meyer snubs them. Nebraska don't pay him a whole lot.

Difference between Meyer and Saban is that Meyer took off for health and family issues. Saban just flat out told everyone in public that he isn't leaving a franchise or college program.

And he immediately took a job with ESPN that will put him on the road away from his family. But no one is questioning that. Unless he is living in L.A. or Bristol. He will have to travel to one of the ESPN studios to do this every weekend. Isn't he joining gameday with Herby and Desmond Howard? Those guys travel every damn week. That in itself should tell you he was lying about spending time with family. Also everyone knows that in college, your job is less demanding than the NFL because you have only so much time you can spend with players on the off season due to rules. Something happened in Florida and he aint saying. In the Ohio circles it was said his wife got tired of all them necks down there. LOL. Yeah he had a health scare. Normally you go sit on your arse and spend time with the family and do nothing for at least a year.

Working at Florida was more stressful health wise than being an analyst for ESPN  Tell me what is hazardous to his health sitting on his arse? Does he stay up late at night creating a game plan with the GameDay crew? Does he have to drive the GameDay bus? lo

He has to travel every week. So that means he was lying about being with his family. Something went down in Gainsville and it aint being said. Trust me on my OSU sources on his wife wanting out of there. Seriously.

**snicker**
I wonder if the NCAA will do Ohio State Football like they did Memphis basketball when it was found out all that crap happend before and during the season.

Wonder if they will wipe out the entire 2010 Ohio State football season in the record books. We shall see because they got a clear cut case to do so. Those players were ineligible from opening day and the coahes at Ohio State knew it. Now everybody know they knew it.
