Jags to Play Texas in Austin Regional

Interesting to see what Southern will do with the interim tag on the current coach. IMO even though Southern won the SWAC with him at the helm, I don't think he is what you need if you want to program to continue trending up. Lots of questionable decisions made through out the year that I witnessed that would make me go another direction with a head coaching decision.

Texas was a tall order to beat in the tournament, but the decision to start Snyder was puzzling, when you had about 3 senior pitchers that was capable of giving southern a shot to at least making it a game. Snyder was blasted against LSU in relief, don't understand how he expected different results on that stage.

Fairfield was a winnable game, but again questionable decisions on the coaching side and lack of discipline made it difficult for southern to have a chance to win. In this game he uncharacteristically, pulled his Senior starter too early and ultimately gave up the big inning all with 2 outs that ended up being the difference maker in the contest.

Game could've been tied at 2 before the big inning if the runner on base made an effort to hussle and run the bases after a lazy pop fly just beyond first base that the first baseman dropped. Runner should've scored and tie the game at 2 which changes everything.
Other than that, southern has shown the same inconsistencies all year in lack of timely hitting stranding runners in scoring positions almost every inning.

Time will tell what they decide to do. If the guy really recruited these players, I think he should fall back into the assistant role he was prior, but naming him head coach, i'm not in favor of. Again, my opinion.

Not surprising. Southern will go the cheap route and probably hire him. They only paying this dude like 65k this year, but like the saying goes. "you get what you paid for." This program will crash and burn under his watch and will be back at square 1 again sooner than you think. They were fortune to win the SWAC and IMO the second most talented team. I think a combination of talent, a sprinkle of luck, and PV firing them up took them to the title.

IMO, SU had the most talented roster. SU had a lot of depth. More pitching than any other team in the conference. Played without its best pitcher during the regular season , in the tournament and post season and still won. Also lost 3 pitchers before the season, that would have been weekend guys. SU will pay for baseball, Kerrick was making $125,000 plus could keep $25,000 from fundraising. No other HBCU is committed to baseball like SU.

That 65K was for an interim, unproven, 36 year-old assistant coach who was the best bet for SU at that time He took over the program just 9 weeks before a covid-riddled season was reduced to a figment of itself. If the interim tag is removed, he will probably earn around 100K. I too am a litle skeptical about his hiring, although a part of me feels he deserves an opportunity to lead the program following the championship run. I will just have to trust the judgment of our A.D., and I don't think the A.D. will be taking the cheap route if he sees fit to give this young man the chance. I just want to see the program flourish, and for the anticipated improvements (artificially turfed playing surface, more modern baseball amenities, and improved seating) to happen.

There will be no artificial turf installed at Lee Hines, coaches decision.
