Jags to Play Texas in Austin Regional

I would like to hear Crenshaw explain his choice of a starter against UT. Why would you NOT start one of the pitchers who started in the SWAC Tournament? Yet you give the ball to a guy like Synder, who has only thrown situational relief lately. Made absolutely no sense.

None . And why not go with the lineup that won the games in the tournament smh. Rookie Coach

That could turnout to be a smart move, knowing that the other teams will use their aces in the first game.

Nooooooooooo. That is, if you intend to WIN the regional. As far fetched as that may seem, that is why you're there. We've beaten #1 seeds before and have been close on a number occasions. Simply "winning A game" is not the objective, Furthermore, why would you "concede" the opening game so that you can have a better pitcher in an "elimination game"?

Not to put a damper on you guys argument but you didn't score a run. It doesn't matter who you throw if you don't cross home! The strategy of not throwing your ace in game one of the regional is not a new concept, many team deploy this strategy! Good, bad or indifference it happens! Your first reliever gave you 4 solid innings.

Did you watch the game? The second SU pitcher (Allen) entered the game down 6-0. He pitched 4 innings and gave up 1 run with 2 strikeouts.

If Allen starts the game with that same type of performance, you may be down 2-0 at best in the 5th inning. You at least give yourself a chance to win. Trailing 7-0 in the 3rd inning against a team of Texas' caliber changes everything. The approach that Crenshaw took had failure written all over it. It was totally inexcusable to NOT use a "regular" starter --- especially one that pitched in the SWAC Tournament.

No manager who wants to WIN a regional gameplans to concede game #1, win elimination game #1, and oh yeah --- plan to win THREE games to advance to the Super Regional. I doubt that there are many teams outside of the Top 10 that can win a regional coming out of the losers bracket (especially after the 1st round). An HBCU team may one day win a regional. I guarantee it won't be an instance where they don't start out 2-0.

I was only suggesting that it might be a good strategy. I’m certainly sure that Coach has a reason for that particular decision.
But Seriously… Did any of you believe that SU would beat Texas??? Hope? Yes!!!
Texas has walk-on pitchers and position players as good if not better than our starters. SU has a much better chance of advancing thru the losers bracket.
