Bobby Rush and alumni of JSU’s Sonic Boom and J-Settes video shoot for "I Ain't Studdin' Ya" for a forthcoming episode of TrueSouth @

Bobby Rush together with alumni of JSU’s Sonic Boom, J-Settes and drum majors for a video shoot of his "I Ain't Studdin' Ya." It will be shown on a forthcoming episode of the TV show TrueSouth. You can't hear Bobby's vocal here - just before this the sound technician had recorded the band with Bobby sitting off to the side so the whole band's sound wouldn't go into his microphone. Bluefoot Entertainment, Inc.
Now this is J-Settes tradition, you dance to the music and not just stand in one place and throw stand counts! Great job, Alumni band, Drum Majors and J-Settes.

SBOTS members Nicholas Organ, JonPaul Wokpara, and D'angelo Fluellen have been selected to participate in the 369th (Harlem Hellfighters) Experience Band. Depicting the African American experience in World War I through the eyes of the legendary 369th U.S. Infantry Regiment, the band will participate in a series of events in DC this summer celebrating Juneteeth, Black Music Month, and the military and musical contributions of African Americans throughout history.

MORE: The Harlem Hellfighters became famous during World War I not only for their courage on the battlefield, but for their 369th Regimental Army Band. They were an all-Black band in the segregated army led by James Reese Europe, who many credit as helping to initiate the Harlem Renaissance.

#JSUAlums: (Omaha, NE) "Majorette is very high energy. It's a combination of jazz, ballet, African, acrobatics, tumbling-- every style of dance you can think of," said studio owner Shanketta O'Neal. She's a former Prancing J-Sette of Jackson State University.

The style dates back to the 1960s. It's also called J-Setting or Bucking, and it's distinctive to Historically Black Colleges and Universities. HBCUs were created in the 1800s as a way to educate African Americans.
