Jacked: Reggie Bush Essence Magazine Cover Controversy

There is no hate in this thread so stop looking. The question was posed and opinions given. Since many men want to act like they don't understand the irritation behind the whole Becky thing...let's look at it like this. Mixed race dude says all black men are monkey faced N*GGAS and he spits on them whenever he's in their presence. Now this same mixed race dude is placed on the cover of Ebony Man as Man of the Year and it stated that he's the epitome of what the black male is about. You already 5:30 HOT!! when you see the cover and you haven't even read the article cause you're not understanding how they could put this JOKE up there in the first place. Get it?

Wouldn't bother me at all. So many folks out there brain washed in this world and have self hate against themseleves that I just charge it to the game.

So you are saying that if a black man's magazine placed a man on the cover who actually doesn't identify or respect black men it truly would not bother you? Hey if he actually spit on you that wouldn't bother you either, huh? :smh: BULLSHIT.

So these Waiting to Exhale starter kits are fussing about Reggie because he's playing with Ray J, Marques Houston & even Nick Carey's leftovers.

Right?

Where was the rage from these sistas when the following folks appeared on the cover of Essence and other black women magazines-

The Game, Usher's exwife, Superhead, 50 Cent, Soulja Boy, Lil Wayne, Lil Wayne's baby mommas, R. Kelly and others?

So it's okay to complain about a guy dating habits but not about showcasing folks who support beating women, beefing over NOTHING, stuffing hot dogs down your pants, HATING light skin sistas, not using dark skinned sistas in movies or vidoes, screwing our little girls, violence, baby momma drama, stealing husbands, drug use and abuse and not following the law?

CT, it doesn't surprise me when I see these stars with their lil funky tale white gul. I mean it seems like it is a prize for them to get rich and have one. Most of them only identify with a green dollar. half of them sell thier souls to the devil and becky once they get it. The only few in Hollywood who kept their sista is Denzel, Ice Cube, LL, Samueal Jackson and Will. Sad, but reality. It's the same in the corporate world, half of these folks try to distance themselves from anything folks consider all black to get them six figures. It's amazing how they try not to sit with another of person of color doing a big high profile meeting, so that it will not be state they aren't diverse.

And after all the whinin those few did, Reggie still is holding that pose on the front and is lookin mighty tasty. I know its a love issue, but I also thought the point of a part of the issue was to showcase the top 10(or however many) sexiest black men? Aint Reggie black? But then again, I haven't read much of the fine print on the other side of his abs, cause i can't focus. :lmao: And no matter who he dates, he is indeed in that percentile. And speaking of percentages, I am in the 63%!!! they should've put a whole spread of that chocolate eye candy up in there, or did they? I don't give a care who is dates, that's his business, just let me look at you. :ebrow: But hey, i love to look at athletes period. We(black women) get so angry and aggravated over the least little things. Enjoy the damn view, shat.

And DallasCowboygul,@where is his daddy... :lmao: yes indeed cause its sholl a Big LeBron out there somewhere probably just glistenin.

Don't agree but there are some things that definitely push our buttons  and a man who is currently dating/engaged to a white woman on the front of a magazine catering to a black audience will do it every time. BTW, Anonymous, could you post the link to your poll? Thanks

WTF is he mixed with?

It was a fictitous analogy

Sky, you must be out of touch. I don't know how many of them were actually on the covers of essence or Ebony but the letters to the editor says it all. Read them sometimes. How did you miss the big firestorm over P Diddy/Kim whoever on the front of Ebony or Essence? The letters get written, have no fear.

We'll just agree to disagree cause unless Reggie Bush miraculously turns non black while he is in still motion on the cover, he himself should be able to grace the cover. And i'm thinking the black women who edit/manage the magazine must think so too. Maybe it doesn't push their buttons in their personal lives, I know it doesn't push mines. And hopefully it can create a cycle of dialogue where other black women learn to not allow it to push their buttons either.

I bet Reggie is sittin back reading the criticism saying, "see, that's why I'on fool with them black guls now". :smh: Its just petty anger to me, almost like being upset with an ex cause he got a new woman. silly! i'm pretty faithful with Essence mag, so they don't have to worry about me turning my nose up.

I can't streeessssss enough how good he looks on the cover. Visually speakin, they made a great selection.

Maybe I miss something. Did Reggie Bush ever say that he would never date a Black woman?

Look at his actions.

Very few of the professional Black athletes admit it, they just dont date black women. See Tiger Woods for example.

yeah they should've used you, a homegrown Bama boy and his chocolate abs stretched across my fave magazine would be so much more worth my blood pressure rising. :flippy::kiss:

and to answer your question, I'm guessing this is the black love issue cause its February, and we all know Essence is a black women's mag, however this is also the issue where they are ranking/talkin about the top 10 sexiest black men. sorry but Reggie falls dead in that category, even if his gf was plaid and polkadots.

He's nice to look at...

But can he really discuss "black love" if he's not in love with a Black woman?

There weren't any other Brothers out there that actually love a Black woman to put on the cover of a magazine that is geared toward Black women?

Then...he's in love with a woman that was made famous off of a sex tape. I aint saying she should never find love again b/c most of us aren't virgins...but she's an airhead too.

Again...he looks nice but I don't think he should be on the cover of any magazine discussing Black love.

Reggie Bush Covers Essence: Kim Kardashian Controversy
http://www.bvonlove.com/2010/01/06/reggie-bush-essence-cover-february/

Sex sells. So it stands to reason that a magazine with Reggie Bush and his bared chest and washboard abs on its cover would be quite popular indeed. Right? Maybe -- unless the magazine is Essence, and the issue in question is its February "Black Men, Love & Relationships Issue." While the magazine's loyal readers have found little fault with the sexy photo of the running back for the New Orleans Saints, many are (angrily) questioning why editors chose to put Bush, who dates the decidedly not black Kim Kardashian, on the cover of the love and relationships issue of a magazine dedicated to black women.

Should ESSENCE have put Reggie Bush on the cover of its Love Issue?

Ya'll know I like to start shat but I can see the irony of putting a black man who is dating a "white' woman on the cover of a magazine that caters to black women on the cover.

maybe a photo and story on the inside but they could have at least took that into consideration when deciding on who gets the cover.

There was probably consideration given. Mikki Taylor is the Cover Editor for Essence.

There's always thought put into who graces publication covers, because they know it contributes to sales. But as already mentioned, "controversy sells." They had to have known some people weren't going to be too happy with Bush being on the cover. But they took a risk anyway. I'm OK with it, because Bush looks fabulous on the cover. :flippy: I could care less who he's dating. The story/cover is about love; it didn't say, "black love." It says, "Black Men, Love..."

I think this "Can we all get along?" and "let's just keep the peace" stuff is why we are where we are in the AA Community. Ain't nobody caring to make a stand about anything...everything is acceptable. :smh: Suge was correct. Carry on.

My thing is this, when is it going to get to the point when Black women ask themseleves what is it that these white women are doing to get and keep these brothers. I mean, these brothers get a white woman, marry her, have kids by her and stay for ever. They get these sistas and gone with in less than a year. Some where, some how there is a problem. Someone just needs to ask the question and get a truthful answer.

I don't create the shat starters.
I just highlight them.
