Reggie Bush Covers Essence: Kim Kardashian Controversy

Sex sells. So it stands to reason that a magazine with Reggie Bush and his bared chest and washboard abs on its cover would be quite popular indeed. Right? Maybe -- unless the magazine is Essence, and the issue in question is its February "Black Men, Love & Relationships Issue." While the magazine's loyal readers have found little fault with the sexy photo of the running back for the New Orleans Saints, many are (angrily) questioning why editors chose to put Bush, who dates the decidedly not black Kim Kardashian, on the cover of the love and relationships issue of a magazine dedicated to black women.

Should ESSENCE have put Reggie Bush on the cover of its Love Issue?

I don't have a problem with Bush (and looking that FINE!) being on the cover of a Black Woman's magazine, BUT I can see how it would bother some.

I was using him because he's with a black woman, since that seems to be their problem, not whether he's married or has kids or not. But maybe I should've said I wouldn't fuss, he's my fave, shoot they could put him on there with Savannah, I still wouldn't fuss. :emlaugh: but heck, I aint fussin with Reggie on there either. :clap: :flippy:

Honestly, I do find it interesting and confusing that a magazine who depends on black womens readership for its sole support base would have placed him on the cover. Esp. in light of the sensitivity of the issue (fact that 45% have never been married) and the whole interracial dating that raises hackles. I'm sure the letters to the editor, esp those that DON'T make it to the magazine will be interesting and they won't make this mistake again.

Believe it or not this is a really juicy color debate........
 
I assumed that most people know that many Black athletes prefer white women (Black Athlete Disease). I don't think they are surprised, but they are insulted that they would put an athlete on the cover of a magazine for Black Women that would never date a black woman.

Reggie Bush is just a confused dude. He's confused on his position on the field and more confused about women. I'm not surpised that he didn't know that Essence Magazine was geared to black women and he probably still doen't know what its for.

I'm not a Bush fan nor will I ever be. The Saints are OK but that Brother is a tweener....Receiver nor Running Back.

There is no hate in this thread so stop looking. The question was posed and opinions given. Since many men want to act like they don't understand the irritation behind the whole Becky thing...let's look at it like this. Mixed race dude says all black men are monkey faced N*GGAS and he spits on them whenever he's in their presence. Now this same mixed race dude is placed on the cover of Ebony Man as Man of the Year and it stated that he's the epitome of what the black male is about. You already 5:30 HOT!! when you see the cover and you haven't even read the article cause you're not understanding how they could put this JOKE up there in the first place. Get it?
