Ain't gonna happen no matter how much pride you Jags try to show on here. There is no one that can take JSU's place on your schedule for a home game. The only game that even matches it is your homecoming. Don't forget too easily how we helped to set a record in your stadium in 1998. Even in 2003 when y'all had that championship team, you were drawing 11,000 and 13,000 for nonconference games (Allen and nem). Anyone with financial sense would see that and eliminate the pride of trying to prove a point. Y'all are not selling out Mumford every weekend like it is Homecoming and JSU weekend.

This rivalry means too much to BOTH schools for that happen. Just as most Tigers and the Boom circle this date, so do most Jags and Jukes.

That was the topic of discussion around the Capitol these last two days. We had state troppers normally assigned to the Capitol asking to work the SU game.
 
Upon reading comegy's comments, my initial reaction was that his comments were tasteless and not well thought out. Coming from Tuskeegee, I would have expected him to have been more polished and more sophisticated in his dissemination of information. Serving in a leadership capacity, he should know that you dont just blabber the first thing that comes to mind- especially to the media. As someone has already alluded, he should expect a hostile environment in a rivalry game, albeit, SU is no more hostile than JSU. I have been the victim of criminal activity at JSU games on two different occasions, but I do not hold that against JSU or its fine administrators and alumni. This has been a learning experience for comegy, and I am confident that he will grow from it.

1. SOUTHERN - There have been shootings at two of the last three JSU-SU Games at Mumford, the scoreboard magically goes off and the game ends early, bus tires get slashed ... Can you understand why it wouldn't exactly be far fetched to say that SU is not the favorite place for JSU to visit....?

2. JACKSON STATE - In Southern's defense... CLEARLY, if we had a stadium ON LYNCH STREET, we all know we would take SU's place as No. 1 most hated place to visit. You know we would be HELL to deal with on our campus. LOL. We are already HELL to deal with at Memorial.

I hope you don't think for a second that SUcks could beat Delta State, especially with THAT defense. They held the ball 40 minutes vs JSU and they could not move the ball until they simply wore our defense down. They would drop fiddy on Southern...like we fixin to do!!

Exactly! Even before the Comegy comments, this was & still is the most intense rivalry in the SWAC. The home attendance figures of both team
clearly shows that.
 
Comegy and SU coach Pete Richardson spoke Tuesday.

?I had a chance to talk to him, and sometimes you make statements that come out,? Richardson said. ?It?s a situation he made and he?s probably going to regret. I?ll just leave it at that.

All of you guys need to get down off you high horse and demand as Alumni something be done about it. It being the image that most have of your school. We didn't make this ish up Shooting on school campuses is a nationwide epedimic just watch the news. If a person want so shoot they will. You guys are mad because he didn't lie about what he heard. Comegy shouldn't have said it, that I agree with but the current reaction from JAGS and BR natives is funny because you are acting just like we thought you would. YOu mofos down JSU and Jackson everytime you get. Jerry curl this, that, gold teeth, poor,fat. You even talk about our leaders and now you are offended. Give me a Break. You glorify thug and you know it.

Leave our schedule we will just replace you with someone else. Alcorn is a good game, we can not sign the classic in Memphis and bring it back to Jackson every other year. We can get FamU back on the schedule. Leave if you want to.

It is perfectly ok for ANY poster from JSU to make those types of comments on TSPN. GR has done it for YEARS. He is still cool when he comes to BR.

This has nothing to do with the schools involved. As a leader of people that have the potential to impact volumes of people, you have to stay away from these types of comments, even if they were valid or an anomaly of your own situation. It is totally irresponsible to take a random non-university and blanket it as some out of control environment, especially in comparison to your own. It wouldn't have been right last year or next year for Pete to tell the press that he was scared for his team going to Jackson with his violence and the history of players being shot, etc... That is irresponsible and has nothing to do with the game nor is it anything that you don't have the risk of facing no matter where you play, including at home.

You would think someone that has been around as long as Comegy would have already learned this young rookie coaching error from someone else or on his own. But, I guess he has been in markets far too small for this to be a major issue.

I certainly hope it was a statement made out of ignorance to the potential for unnecessary contention and wasn't a statement made for some type of crazy motivational tactic or some type of distracting tactic for SU.

So, Coach Pete, make sure you strongly emphasize to the Jags not to respond to JSU players grabbing face mask after the play, talking noise to them, pushing them after the play, etc... tactics to draw unsportsmanlike-like conducts or ejections from our reactions to such buffoonery.
