A day after Jackson State coach Rick Comegy expressed concern about making his first trip to Southern University?s A.W. Mumford Stadium, leaders at both schools said they were looking forward to the game and the pageantry of the Southern-Jackson State rivalry.

Jackson State President Ronald Mason Jr., who said his school had sold its allotment of 1,000 tickets in half of a day, said, ?Our fans are coming. I?m coming with my family. We love playing in Baton Rouge. We enjoy the rivalry and the camaraderie.?

That?s what Southern University Interim Chancellor Margaret Ambrose wanted to hear.

?If they show up, it?s an indication of good faith, that they believe the spirit of what we?re about,? Ambrose said.

On the Southwestern Athletic Conference teleconference Monday, Comegy, who is in his second season at Jackson State, talked about hearing horror stories and that Tigers fans would not be taking their families to Mumford Stadium.

Meanwhile, Tony Clayton, the chairman of the Southern University Board of Supervisors? athletic committee, said he called Southwestern Athletic Conference Interim Commissioner Duer Sharp asking that Comegy?s comments be investigated and that action be taken, possibly a suspension.

Yeah that's right get on it.

No investigation needed... he just needs to show his hungry self up and get some of that good food in Louisiana. I KNOW he'll be ready to come back after that (no smack intended).

SU hasn't a leg to stand on. If Comegy is suspended, I would hope he'd file charges against the SWAC or even SU for making such stupid accusations that he be fined or suspended. SU ain't runnin nothin at Jackson State.
There is no need for an apology because he said nothing wrong. We still have a first and fifth amendment in this country.

I see that Pete and the SU nation dont want to face Comegy. So I guess the next best thing is to see if the Commish will tell him to stay at home. Hey, somebody tell Clayton that Comegy isnt the one that they should fear; it's Brooks, Clark, Atkins, Rasheed, Speaks and co.

:lmao:

Now Comegy made a mistake based on what long time JSU fans was shooting in his ear.

Now if SU want's to make a mountain out a mole hill, then all the shat that has happened AROUND THE SU CAMPUS on gameday will be national news.

Can't change past event's and that's a fact.
Let it go.:goof:

I wonder if Clayton is working overtime to push this thing, cause he only have 2 days left before the @$$ whippin. Is he really believing that the SWAC office is going to make a decision before Saturday? That's a joke in itself.

maybe they should investigate SU for asking for that FEMA MONEY for athletics.

Stagg...I

Investigation? Hell the SWAC officials ON THE FIELD can't get some calls right. You think SWAC officials in the offices can get something right?

'm not saying the following as a Jaguar fan. I'm saying this as a person that knows a thing or two about media ishtstorms when he sees them at any level.

This is a waste of time. JSU prez is already in damage control mode because of Comegy's remarks hence.

Advocate story that's on the wire said:
In a statement Tuesday, Jackson State President Ronald Mason Jr. acknowledged the healthy rivalry between the teams and said they look forward to Saturday?s matchup.
??Coach Comegy never intended for his comments to suggest in any way that the atmosphere at Southern football games is unsafe,?? Mason said. ??He has never experienced the excitement and intensity of playing in Baton Rouge.
??Our allotment of tickets sold out in half a day, so it is clear that Tiger fans will be there.??

You know your coach has done something dumb when your president has to come drop some damage control. Like I said earlier, Comegy should have known better to even to had adressed it AT ALL in the conference call, since football coaches tend to deflect things that don't directly affect the tasks at hand.

oh well, carry on...

Well J, what do you honestly think about Clayton pursuing this thing and asking for a suspension like what Comegy said will dictate the outcome of the game?

Did you even read my post in #7 before you went off the deep end over some damm words Comegy said.
That's the problem this world has now.

Too many soft arse people that go off the deep end over nothing.
Let SU make a big deal out of it.
Who cares ...................... It's over now.
Comegy was on last night talking about the comment and basically explained why he mentioned it but we all know how negro's wanna make ant hill's into Mt. Everest.

SU want to dwell on it, that's their blood pressure.

The FEMA comment was a joke but I should have known people here can't tell the difference.
From now on, I will put the word JOKE befor a joke so people can comprehend.

Stag, Comegy is going to beat them silly for this investigation. LOL!!!! They have opened a can that can not be closed. LOL!!!! Hell, Clayton is going to be trying to investigate this @$$ whoopin Comegy is going to put on them. LOL!!!!!!!!

He gonna beat them senseless.
They already silly for even suggesting wasting time on a investigation. :goof:

Well J, what do you honestly think about Clayton pursuing this thing and asking for a suspension like what Comegy said will dictate the outcome of the game?

Beans, you have to know Tony Clayton. He is a good attorney that is also a special prosecutor for the state sometimes. He likes to talk and be seen. I don't think it is that serious. I am sure he has heard from a lot of upset SU alums and is just overeacting. I doubt he thinks he will get Comegy suspended for this game. We all know how slow the SWAC office is. So even if Comegy did get punished that way.........it would be the Gram game.

No need in my mind for the SWAC office to intervene. Just play the game and get it over with. Comegy and Pete are friends from what I understand anyway and they go back aways. So I think this will blow over. Now our fans is different. From what I understand it is some mad futhamuckers in BR right now. Now we really got to watch out for some fools. Remember what MB said.......it only takes one.

But in all honesty JR, what do they have to be mad about? Because Comegy said that he "heard" that it was a hostile environment? Remember, he didnt go into details with that comment. Now, why would you all fans be mad about that? Dont you think that that is abit "shallow" to get upset and "mad" about?

Actually I think Comegy opened up a can of whoop arse on JSU. The Nation is angry bruh. The players are going to feed on it and with no Boom there to offset the Juke and our fans it is going to be very difficult for JSU. Because yall can talk all you want........but you know damn well SU's football team aint like last years team. All smack aside. Them kids are going to bring it this week. Even more so now. Especially that stupid isht Oliver said about folks cutting bus tires when his young arse has no clue and was just repeating what he had heard. I can see Comegy saying something but he should have kept his players mouths shut.

Come on Beans don't be naive. You could have said the same thing about LSU and their fans would be pissed too. It was the way it was said. You know he shouldn't have allowed himself to be caught up in that. He should have said, I have no idea what the environment is at SU and that we are going down there to play a football game and left it at that. No need to comment on what he had heard. He is a professional. Plus if he was concerned, he could have called Pete and talked to him. They go back awhile and have been friends from what I understand before Comegy went to JSU.

In all honesty again JR, the players, Nation, Pete and his wife, your Chancellor, the Jukes, etc...... can feed off whatever you all want. Heck, you can feed off the same thing Comegy eats and it still will not help you all. You all really isnt that good or talented and it will show this weekend. You see, dont believe that our players are coming there shakin in their boots and such. Dont believe that our players cant get hyped off your crowd and band. When the Juke crank "Neck", dont believe that Brooks, Speaks, Clark, and Atkins wont be bobbin their heads gettin into a groove of tearing Lee's head off. You see how adrenaline and momentum can swing?

Naive about what, JR? Remember, Comegy isnt the most polished speaker because he really never gave interviews when he was down in Skeege. Hey! The man was asked a question and he said what he heard. He said that he didnt have first hand knowledge, but he just heard about these stories. It was you all shallow fans that got bent out of shape and want to make a big deal of all this. The only thing this man knows is football and how to win. What I got from that comment he made isnt the same what you all got. I got that he doesnt really know or care what happens in the stands or in the parking lot, because he's coming to play a game and win.

Dude, your players already done bought into it or Oliver wouldn't have said isht. They believe its crazy down there and folks in Jackson have filled their heads with it. You give them too much credit. These are youngsters Beans and not me and you. You can think they will be fine. Hell if their coaching staff was concerned , don't you think it rubbed off to the players. Come on now........you can't be that naive bruh. USC had more talent than Stanford and got beat didn't they. Harbaugh got his team to believe that they USC was ordinary. Pyschology plays a roll. This wouldn't be the first time a so-called non talented SU team beat JSU.

BTW, you better hope ole Woody don't get down there and panic with the play calls. LOL

I could understand this if Comegy was lieing or if he was repeating someone elses lie. Everything he said was true.

This is all about politics!

1. Didn't Comegy say he's "heard stories." Hearing stories and actually experiencing events are two totally different things. If we choose to get technical.

2. I've said from jump that this is dumb as hell.
?Comegy could have easily deflected the question or dismissed is nonimportant to the game (like 99 percent of coaches do in any sport)

?Clayton needs to sit his arse down somewhere. Like I said, SWAC officials ON THE FIELD and ON THE COURT can't get isht right sometime, why get the SWAC officials in the office involved in some other BS?

?I'm pretty sure if Totten or Pete woulda gotten on a conference call and called Memorial a cesspool or something, y'all would be up in arms as well.

Stagg...I didn't even pay attention to the FEMA thing..that's old smack. :flippy: I didn't go off the deep end either. I'm just saying, from what I've been taught about PR and the media (and since I'm a member) that Comegy fell for the trap of some writer looking to make an angle out of something THAT HAS VERY LITTLE TO DO WITH THE GAME ITSELF. Now, J-State's prez gotta do damage control, Tony Clayton's on the warpath to nowhere (as usual) and we're stuck on here with 80-plus post threads that's partly based on hysteria and misinformation.

Beans: Clayton needs to sit his arse down, period. He hasn't done much since getting Derrick Todd Lee found guilty in the West BR Parish courthouse...and all the posturing and all that has not translated into some real deal stuff.

and for those saying Comegy is doing this for strategy have got to be out of your rabid arse minds. As a coach, you try NOT to say anything that can become bulletin board material (see Richardson, Pete and the FAMU game of 1999), especially days leading up to the game. It doesn't make good football sense at all. The crowd was going to be against you in the first place, now you given them more reason for the crowd to be ramped up.

Beans, Pete aint the most polished guy either, neither is Broadway at Gram. So what's your point? You still have common sense. If he didn't care about that kind of thing then he could have said next question. Let's talk about the game itself. He got baited into all this. Even Bell didn't get caught up like that. He just told yall 99% don't know football and left it at that.
