Is this the end of the 9 game mandate?

The difference I was speaking of is $$$$$$$.

For example, if Georgia is scheduled to play Auburn at home, they will sellout at 90K. If Auburn is replaced with any other team, be it 1A or 1AA, Georgia will still sell out. And make the same $$$$.

If JSU (the biggest stadium in the conference) is scheduled to play SU in Jackson, they will draw a big crowd. Do you really expect that SU can be replaced with just any other team, be it 1AA or D2, and JSU will still draw the same big crowd and make the same $$$$$???

That's the difference!

They could follow another SEC practice and allow "rivalry" teams from the other division...they could be on the team's schedule every year...and the other 2 could rotate.

Here is the problem. There are going to be teams in the SWAC that WILL play each other, but it won't be a conference game. If that is going to happen, then the 9 game mandate should remain.

Don't see that as being a problem........................EXAMPLE......... if the SU/JSU game don't count as a conference game for either school.

Even if it would not count, JSU/SU would be CRAZY not to keep this game going. That's way to many people to turn away on a weekend.

Drop it back to 7, give schools 4 games to play with and rival's could still play each other PLUS out-of-conference scheduling would be easier as far as 2 or 3 year contract to play someone outside the SWAC.

MH...do you think JSU will replace SU. That's almost like GSU or SU replacing one or the other in Bayou Classic. You need to use a better example.

The example you gave is like AAMU replacing Alabama St. on their schedule...come on dude...

Samething can be said for SU vs Alcorn. The attendance for the game in Lorman was like 32,000.

ummm Sweets,
The example I used is the perfect example. ASU and A&M are in the same division and will always play every year. The same with GSU and SU.
But JSU and SU are in different divisions, so they wouldn't necessarily play a conference game every year.

and actually, you're making my point. By saying how "smart" would it be for the SWAC to say that JSU/SU couldn't play.

so, again I ask, why should the SWAC step in and say that during the years when the SU/Alcorn game doesn't count in the standings, these 2 teams can't play each other.

MH's example is a perfect one.

There are years in the SEC where Tennessee rotates off LSU's schedule. From a bottom line standpoint, it does not hurt LSU because South Carolina will replace UT on LSU's schedule. LSU will still put 90K in the stadium.

SWAC schools can't do that.

thank you again!!!!

There is a bigger picture here and the sad thing is as I have stated earlier, The SWAC conference really needs a PR Person for simple things like this.

Do you know how many rivalry games the SWAC could have with Conference USA, Sunbelt, Southland, and not to mention the MEAC?

Man we have to think bigger and get off our own block. Yea I would love to see AAMU and GSU's band go at it, but when the school can't allocate funds for travel, or like the SEC school do, charter buses for fans to travel...we will forever be considered SMALLTIME.

CD...does Arkansas remove LSU? Alabama remove Auburn? Hell does Arkansas remove ULM in Little Rock?????

I think what's happening is that you all are comparing size and numbers...I'm comparing logic in practicing policy with assistance from strong PR.

All those teams are in the SEC West and they will play every year.

and jagtilidie,
spin your "tradition" angle to the folks who think teams shouldn't be playing unless the game counts in the standings

No Division I or I-AA conference allows its teams to play non-conference games against conference opponents. And it makes absolutely no sense to me for the SWAC to do so. There are over a 120 Division I-A schools and over 110 Division I-AA schools to schedule. And quite a few SWAC matchups are not even close to being home sellouts. So why should everyone play everyone especially now that Division I-A schools can schedule more games against I-AA teams?

Again I say, why play a school in your conference if it is NOT a conference game? The SWAC needs to come up with 7 conference games for each school. One game could be set inter-division rivarly (SU/JSU, GSU/Alcorn, etc.), with two rotating inter-division games. Then go and play NON-SWAC schools.

I can't wait until the day that the SEC schools like LSU and Tennesses play each other and the game won't count as a conference game. Then and only then will it make sense to me.

You are right but my point is...why would a team remove someone from their schedule that draws crowds?

Arkansas/LSU, Auburn/Alabama are in the same division so they will always play. We are talking about schools form the other division. What will happen when Grambling is not required to play J-State. We can not replace the J-State payday with the Valley game when they rotate on to our schedule.

To replace that money, we will have to schedule a D1A game. All of the SWAC schools have not had the same luck with doing the this.

Oh and for the record, the Arkansas/UL-Monroe game was ULM's home game.

The SEC mandates that if you are not on the schedule the conference creates, you don't play.

Isn't the SEC the conference you referenced on page 1?

Please forgive me, but this is "c**n Thinking".

Anytime two conference schools meet, it should be a conference game. That practice is carried out on all levels of sports from middle school to the professional level in every sport. WHY would the SWAC alter the practice? Oh, because we don't buy tickets unless we can show off our new clothes when GSU comes to town.

I think some of you are scared of your team stepping out and not playing the usual schedule.

Me personally I would love to see more in state rivalry's. In Louisiana utilzing Independence Stadium more to fill it up. I remember when SU used to play Northwestern, Grambling/McNeese, etc....that's in state money.

First off the SWAC isn't the SEC and never will be. For the most part, our attendence depends on who the opponent is. SEC games will sell out regardless, the same can't be said for the SWAC. Some of you that are pushing for state schools really are confused. You really think that SU vs McNeese, Northwestern, Nicholls is > than SU vs Alcorn, SU vs Jackson. All you have to do is check the attendence from past games and that will give you your answer.

P.S.
Isn't this one of the reasons the nine game mandate was started in the first place, because certain teams always wanted to play each other.

Yes. So what's up with the SWACs policies, and most importantly are they followed?

Are you in favor of JSU not being on GSU's schedule every year?
