The state College Board unanimously approved the University of Mississippi Medical Center?s initial presentation of the expansion of the medical center.
Records were obtained by The Clarion-Ledger after the presentation this morning ? two days after they were due, according to the state?s open records laws.
The increase include:
160 additional medical students (up from 440) by year 2014
200 additional residents (up from 390) by year 2014
200-230 additional faculty members (up from 450) by year 2013
The numbers are significantly different from those Dr. Dan Jones, UMC?s vice chancellor for health affairs, gave the newspaper several weeks ago. The reason why is not clear.
A first look at the report indicates it will cost up to $40 million in renovation and building expenses to house such an increase. Reoccurring operating expenses are still being evaluated by The Clarion-Ledger.
Jones has said he will ask for support from state lawmakers.
