Hornets, Tuskegee Renew Football Rivalry

. None of us are playoff bound anymore so it makes good dollar and cents to have games that weekend.

I don't agree with that thinking. If Alcorn lives up their expectations, they should be a top 20 team before they come to Jackson. When we beat them, they should be playoff eligible.

TP.

No SWAC TEAM will make the playoffs no matter what. I told yall this over a decade ago when people were making the same argument then.

Too many good FCS teams to pick for them to be waiting on us. Besides our Commish and fans told the ncaa long ago F the playoffs. they not even looking in our direction anymore.

Which is good Frat. I am so glad we ain't involved in that pimp show called FCS. I was recently listening to the ND State AD talk about the possibility of moving up to get BOWL money. This is from the FCS 3 Time champs. No money in it for even them. So it is a waste of time. Now the MEAC finally saw the light as there schools were having financial issues even with participating in the playoffs. I think we just so caught up in we got to go to the playoffs in FCS to show them white boys we can play on their level. Poor FCS is about to be on some hard times soon as the POWER FCS programs with money look to move on. I think us HBCUs may have been smarter than we thought by creating our own thing. Now the rest of FCS whatever of it's left is going to be like damn, them black mofos are on National TV in their own bowl game when we get to pay to host playoff games. LOL. Ironic how things happen.

Man fugg them playoffs. Yall need to get paid with that game on Thanksgiving WEEKEND. That playoff means nothing. Some of these power FCS programs are beginning to see that and even with their success in those pimp playoffs, they want something better. If anything the way the FCS is operating is out of date and ancient.

Its only a bad decision if you can't find a decent FCS school to play for TDC. Otherwise, you will be playing two D2s a year.. well 3 if you count that smalltime school that I won't name.

Well now that the MEAC isn't going to the playoffs anymore. Maybe Bama State can get one of those schools to come every year. Do a home and home. But just have whatever MEAC school come play you on that date and then go play them on whatever date at their place the next season. You can keep a steady rotation of them. I bet Braveheart would love that. LOL.

Get Savannah State to come over from GA.

JR,
May be even closer than the MEAC.

Yet some of us (MEAC and SWAC folks) still chastise what we got when others would scrap the playoffs as well if ESPN offered them a bowl game.

I know the SCG played a role in this and moving it to Houston and averaging just under 40K in an NFL stadium the first two years probably made ESPN lean on the MEAC a little harder. Wouldn't surprise me to see the NCAA totally revamp the FCS playoffs within the next five years especially if NDSU and a few other big boy FCS schools leave

I think you nailed it In the 662. Their will be openings in some of the lower tier FBS conferences as all the moving around continues and the Power 5 conferences expand. Especially the BIG 12 that has get some folks in there. So it will be some backfill going on. Just in time for the Eastern Washington's, ND State's etc to make their move. It's coming and I agree FCS will have to realign itself. Money drives everything.

Going away from the 9 game mandate has allowed us to have more options when it comes to scheduling games.
The new 7 game mandate is GREAT for business. Thankfully, the SWAC finally did away with the 9 game mandate. We have already announced contracts with UTSA, South Alabama, Troy and now Skegee over next 3 seasons. I'm sure there are more home/home deals to come.

Yeah I get that, but with the hire of Jenkins I thought you guys were looking to go in another direction. Not add another D2 school to your schedule that does absolutely nothing for you.
Miles is a solid D2 opponent. Contract was already in place. 2 year deal. Miles is a possible D2 playoff type team, but learned that there is no money in going to playoffs when they can pick up a guaranteed check to play Bama State for Turkey Day.

I don't support our best teams going to the playoffs but i do support our #2 team going. ...and no matter what anyone believes, it's possible IF the team is deserving.

Glad to see TU and Bama St back playing. I see they moved the Soul Bowl to Bayou classic Saturday tho lol

It's a win win for both schools because it is a good payday. Tuskegee withstood their ground and promised to never play on Turkey Day again to be eligible for the playoffs. Now they get to make money by playing Bama State and still go to the playoffs. Bama St will fill up their stadium again! I'm sure Tuskegee negotiated a good contract since all 4 games is at ASU!

I stopped reading here. Other than that I'm glad you guys put Tuskeegee back on the schedule, it's a win win for both schools.

I see that Miles will be playing North Alabama at Legions Field in The Labor Day Classic on Sept 6th. This should give us some idea what kind of team they will have this year. Best of Luck to Them!

There appears to be a difference of opinion.

Miles is only scheduled for this year. There's nothing set in stone for a future TDC opponent. We've already added 3 FBS opponents within the past month.

Not a bad idea.

Yeah, because I think N. Alabama was ranked around #14 in the D-2 Poll.

Y'all are the only people willing to play at a DII. Home and home was never a possibility.

Not true. AAMU's contract with TU was a 4-year home-and-neutral site contract. Tuskegee's home games were originally to be played at Ladd-Peeples Stadium in Mobile, Al. We played in Normal in 2011 and 2013. They controlled their game locations, and switched the venue to Legion Field (Birmingham) in 2012, and last minute switched to their home stadium last year. We were trying to get it moved back to Birmingham, or play it in Montgomery.

We're not about to back out of a game less than 2 months away. But you won't see Skegee back on A&Ms schedule anytime soon, I bet. I'm happy about that.
