"Leader of Kings"
Alabama State University and Tuskegee University have renewed their football rivalry in a four-year contract announced Wednesday by both universities.

The Hornets and Tigers will face each other on Sept. 2, 2017, in the season opener for both teams. The teams last played in the opening of ASU Stadium before a sellout crowd on Nov. 22, 2012, in the 89th Turkey Day Classic.

"I am pleased to announce the renewal of our football rivalry with Tuskegee," Alabama State University President Dr. Gwendolyn E. Boyd said. "This contest dates back to 1924 and has provided wonderful opportunities for fans on both sides to enjoy a longstanding tradition of spirited competition, as well as the reunions of families and friends. We look forward to welcoming the Tigers back to The ASU Stadium in 2017."

The two teams will also play on Sept. 1, 2018, Sept. 7, 2019, and Sept. 5, 2020, with all games played at The ASU Stadium.

"It's outstanding to renew one of the greatest and most storied rivalries in all of college football," Alabama State Interim Athletic Director Melvin Hines said. "Fans and supporters of both universities have wanted this series to continue, and both institutions worked diligently to make this happen. We're pleased to have Tuskegee back on the schedule and look forward to exciting contests in the future."

The 2015 Hornets, under first-year head coach Brian Jenkins, will open the season Sunday, Sept. 6, at Tennessee State in the John Merritt Classic. Season and single game tickets for Hornets' football are sale by phone at 334-229-4551 or in person at the ASU Ticket Office. Single game tickets start at just $10 online at bamastatesports.com/tickets.

LMAO...So Another Rivalry Game is on or close to Labor Day. People can PLAN for Labor Day and won't be as financially strained compared to during the Holiday Season. Besides, Labor Day is when Football takes center stage. But some folks are just blind with Pride and don't consider the CONSUMERS at all.

But congrats Alabama State and Tuskegee. They are making it happen WITHOUT excuses.

Are you suggesting the Soul Bowl be moved to Labor Day?

See, it's quite simple.

Every SWAC Team has to factor in the SCG and Celebration Bowl every year now as a possibility.

Alabama State, TX Southern, and PV are smart in that by having their Rivalry Games as the start of the year, the Fans and Alumni can start saving for the SCG and Celebration Bowl IF their teams make it to both games. Even with the Magic City Classic being in Late October, that will still be one whole month (November) for fans and alumni to save for the SCG and Celebration Bowl. At worst, your team doesn't make it to the SCG or Celebration Bowl, you have more money saved up for the Holiday Season to spend LMAO.

In addition you have two 0-0 teams facing each other. No worry of apathy due to losing as it is the first game of the season and both teams have excitement.

The Consumers ALWAYS make or break a product. Quite Simple....yet complicated for some.

LOL.. No he is suggesting the Bayou Classic be moved to Labor Day..;)
Of course he is. Actually didn't JSU and Alcorn decide to play the Soul Bowl on the Saturday after Thanksgiving this year? I thought I read that somewhere. Which is a smart move. Old Soul Bowl style. People at home during that time anyway. Braveheart has no clue. People financially strapped my ass. Folks be strapped at Labor Day because their kids just went back to school. More money is spent buying school clothes and supplies etc than Thanksgiving holiday time.

So who will be Bama State's opponent on Turkey Day?

Doesn't look like they have an opponent this year for Turkey Day. They play Miles on the 21st of Nov and that's their last game of the season.
Don't know if they plan on playing on Thanksgiving in 2016 and 2017. I am sure the Hornets on the board already know what the plans are.

Turkey Day has been moved to the Saturday before Thanksgiving

Yes. You are correct. JSU and Alcorn will be playing the Saturday after Thanksgiving.

Should be a huge crowd in Memorial this year for that game. Good deal. We all might as well maximize our own rivalries and play them when it is best for our schools and fans. Good move. Heck I wish it was on Turkey Day. I am usually at the crib then and head to the BC on Friday. I would attend the Soul Bowl if it was on Turkey Day. None of us are playoff bound anymore so it makes good dollar and cents to have games that weekend.
