Coach Haywood has already proven himself at the level Hopson wants to be at. Hopson's resume is not even in the same league as Coach Haywood. I never said that none of these previous HBCU coaches weren't worthy of this type of shot.
The fact remains that Alcorn did this in the SWAC first and more coaches from the SWAC will go on to be FBS Head Coaches/Coordinators because of it. It is what it is. I'm sorry that it upsets you but it won't change what is going to happen.

Can't blame him for not going. That's not the greatest job to take. Wasn't like Texas was offering him the OC job. Hopson has 2 years to keep USM in the mix or he will be gone. They showed little faith in him with that cheap contract. Simmons is young enough to try to keep winning enough to see if he can make a jump if that is his desire.

...and they didn't offer him enough to leave a HC gig. USM is not a good place to coach right now.

Hopson won 9+ games at Alcorn for 3 straight years before making the jump. I truly expect the same thing with Simmons. Jumping to USM might have been a pay raise but he would have jumped back under someone else when he can be the man at PV for a few years over his own program

Simmons ain't gonna jump nowhere. USM was just desperate. If they had opened their search back in December, Hopson would still be at Alcorn.

But if there is no competition, we will revert back to our 2005-2012 Era in SWAC Football. SWAC Football nearly died during that time period. Coaches will be able to get by with 6-7 wins a Season and still get pay raises.

homeboy if yall can't find coaches, with all these good young coaches running around trying to get jobs, then yall should just shut it down.

Your 100 percent right, that's why Hopson wanted his exact coordinators from alcorn because he knows he has to win and win fast or he'll be valley or A&M next lol the swac is nowhere near as bad as people on the outside think it is. It's just that the administrators have been forced to finance academia over athletics with all the budget cuts. Now things are a bit better they can finally start pumping a few more dollars into athletics. #swacisrisingagain. The swac problem on an average has been the lack of quality coaches rather than the lack of talent and now they both are of quality at almost all swac schools.
