I know this but our problem is the majority of us don't even have a plan in place to START working towards that goal. You look at a lot of HBCU's and they are still offering the same degrees, in the same numbers that they offered 20 years ago. I know open admissions is a touchy subject, but we also have to tighten that up also to move up the academic ladder.
I say somebody need to take the leap.
Ain't like Troy State had millions and millions in surplus when they moved. They doing all-right. NOT WORLD BEATERS but they are getting a better class of athlete since the move.
Troy had money frat. Them white folks planned their move for awhile. They also have a total enrollment of 31K in their system. They are a nice regional University.
I don't know how much of a better class of athlete they are getting. They are not lighting up the NFL draft either. They are not getting any Robert Braziles of Alabama type athletes. Those Bama kids still want to go to Alabama and Auburn first and Troy is like USM to Ole Miss and State. They get some of the rest of the state and maybe since they are not far from GA, they can get some of those. They run across a kid like DeMarcus Ware who turns out to be a stud. For those schools it is coaching. They hire better coaches to develop their players.
The other piece we miss. We only recruit a handful of other than black athletes. Those PWC lower tier programs get that white boy OL, DL or even QB that got overlooked by the big boys. So not only do they get the next level below black athletes, they get the white ones too. So unless we change our WHOLE recruiting method and have a super diverse squad then we will still have some struggles to fill certain positions. Schools like ND State get all them cornfed White OL that the Big Ten and other conferences pass over in that region and build them up.
