Nita,

Since it is clear that he is going to avoid responding to your question...I guess the answer is no.

Guess I gotta ask again ...

Did you receive any information on the drafting of Dante' Wesley by the Carolina Panthers from the Sports Information Director for the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff?

Vinita,

I apologize. I did not realize your post was intended for me. No, I did not receive any information from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff and agree that there is a better option for the alumni, current students and fans to express their concerns about the lack of media athletic information than e-mailing Kenn Rashad about his coverage on the front page (very nice, read friendly and professional layout) of the SWACPAGE site.

I never stated that Kenn Rashad should be reponsible for posting information in regards to University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff athletics. Again this is his internet site and he can operate it as he pleases. That is why there is an opportunity for other sites to exist with their niche and why I do not understand why Kenn Rashad feels he is in direct competition with me or my site.

I have been blessed with the opportunity from a previous poster on this site to provide me with the capital to create a site that allows me to free lance my creative style by providing information to public about SWAC institutions athletic programs.

I just stated in my humble opinion the way Kenn Rashad went about handling the situation of the e-mails and additional reponses of cursing and such was very unprofessional.

Because he is broadcasting his business practices and personality to the world. Remember this internet site is viewed by the world and you never know whom maybe visiting this site. His actions and responses on this board are a direct reflection of himself and he never knows when that may be called out in a possible lucrative business venture, transaction or employment opportunity.

Dude, don't flatter yourself. I am not in competition with you. You are the one stressing professionallism. Like I said before, you should put your website in a position to capitalize off the weaknesses of this site, instead of *****in' to me and this board. That would be the professional thing to do. But for some reason, you insist on sticking around instead of taking advantage of this "niche" market that is presenting you with this golden opportunity.

Well I think we all have different gripes about our alma maters and the way certain things are handled. I can see everybody's point of view on this matter. Hopefully all our SIDs would feel obligated to get out info to different types of outlets. I am sure some feel that TSPN is not really the media and even though Kenn has sent them a request for info, they may choose to ignore it. So it is a tough task for Kenn to keep up with all the happenings at our schools. Now saying that, I can also undertand the concern of the UAPB folks not seeing Dante Wesley's Draft news on the front of the TSPN page, especially since he was the only one drafted from the SWAC. Hopefully we can continue to support Kenn and his efforts to improve to TSPN and let's not get sidetracked with this type of differences and try to see if we can help solve the lack of communication between the SIDs and this page along with any media outlet. No need to let this cause us to be at odds. Let's work together. I think this page gives us all more of a chance to hear what's going around the SWAC than any other outlet. Even if it just means reading posts in the different forums. Much better than our supposed official SWAC website. Just my 2 cents.

Hey PF, CHECK YOUR PM.

Kenn Rashad,

If you really feel this way, then why do you feel the need to continue to respond to my post and use such language. I will continue to pray that you are blessed as I turn into rest this evening.

I could ask you the same question. But to answer your question, I respond because I can.

I guess my question, once again, is why didn't the UAPB fans that knew about that player being drafted send the information to Kenn to be announced? Our, Southern that is, fans sent our stuff in; so why didn't you guys send it? I send in SU stuff when it happens, so I guess I'm wrong for doing the right thing.

As I was watching the draft, I posted this right after he was drafted.

Donte Wesley (UAPB) picked by the Carolina Panthers in the 4th round.

Dante Wesley
DB | (6-0, 210, 4.5) | ARKANSAS-PINE BLUFF
By Pro Football Weekly

Notes: Began college career at Arkansas in 1997, where he redshirted as a wide receiver. Moved to safety in '98, but all of his action came on special teams. Transferred to Pine Bluff in '99 and has started the past three years, generally at cornerback. Had 38 tackles, including two for loss, seven passes broken up, three interceptions and two fumble recoveries in '99; had 33 tackles, zero interceptions and 17 passes defensed in 2000; had 27 tackles, 11 passes broken up and four interceptions in '01.

Positives: A big, physical corner with some straight-line speed. Very physical for a cornerback. Has some of the tools to be a bump-and-run corner. Also has good size and very good speed for a safety.

Negatives: May lack man-on-man cover skills for the next level. On the stiff side. Lacks the hips for cornerback and will lose too much in transition. Has a really hard time playing balls thrown over his head. Has not faced many big-time receivers.

Summary: Developmental type who may eventually be a fit at strong safety if somebody can wait on him.

Note the date and time.....

I also started another thread about who they were projecting as NFL prospects from the SWAC. There was a thread about the draft on the sports board also.

OK, good....what is the basis of this dialouge? It was on the SWACPAGE right? Is this because it wasn't on the front page, but rather on other boards?

Well, speaking only for myself, I didn't send it in because I didn't know I could.
It wasn't until after this pittance of a thread began that I realized that the only time I saw UAPB mentioned at all was in the context of being in competition with another SWAC school. The other school is, I guess where this info came from.
Hell, if I had known that our SID was where the info was supposed to come from, I'd have never said anything, because that fact explains it all!

let it be known I have offered to solicit my services to this site free of charge back in 2000.

I even offered to donate some cash in return for some input as to what goes on the front page recently despite our differences. Despite asking, my requests have not been granted.

I personally know what schools send e-mail out. It has been like that since football season. So whoever does the front page should have known way in advance nothitng comes from uapb.

If something major happens at these schools, all you got to do is write a small summary about the event. Dahill asked that in the beginning of the post. It takes only 10 measley minutes.

Thing is, SID's know about this site. I have sat in an SID office and had it on his computer. If information gets to the Houston Chronicle but not the swacpage, what does that tell you? And I know the Chronicle does not call people.

Have some of you all thought there could be something internally between some SID's and the site owner?

Jagster:
I think the problem is some think Kenn favors GSU when posting news releases on the front page. This could not be further from the truth.

The real problem is some of our Sports Information departments are doing a poor job of spreading the word about their programs. Like Kenn stated, it does not take a lot to send a quick email to the SWAC Page. Since most or our programs don't have updated Sports websites, I would think we would jump at the situation for free coverage of our programs.

We really can't expect Kenn to browse the net to showcase our programs when our own departments are not doing it. We don't expect ESPN, Chronicle, etc to do it so why do we expect Kenn to do it?

Hopefully those so outraged will now question their own SI departments and demand more. If other I-AA programs with similar budgets can spread the word, so can your program.

Nah, I hadn't thought of that, but I rather doubt it. Our SID has few, if any enemies. He is a really nice guy.

Which is why his slack ass has held the position for so dayum long!

Here's hoping, but I won't hold my breath.

it tells me that one of these scenarios could be occuring

A) they don't view this as a relative media outlet

B) there is a personal difference between you all

C) the page could not be on their lists despite obvious attempts to get included

Texas Southern has the best sports information department in the SWAC.

Imagine if they really funded the department instead of relying on graduate assistants.

That tells you that the Houston Chronicle doesn't give a damn about Texas Southern.

What else is new?

Well if it is A. Thats not my problem.

It couldn't be B, because I only know one of the SIDs personally and I get stuff from him.

And if it is C, well that what I have been preaching from the jump.

I don't know how this answers my question. Like I asked, if info is on TSPN and the Chronicle what does that tell you.

it tells you are trying to get the information up there but coming from the other side, some SID's actually thnk they are bigger than the swacpage.

You have the swacpage, which might generate 50K hits month or the Chronicle, which has that many suscribers/pick-up sales/print edition/online, etc. I know personally folks will sit back and take a small line in the chronicle instead of sending info to black outlets.

I personally know of ways to increase viability without spending a lot of cash. I am doing it now where I work and it could easily work here but until everyone gets on the same page here it will never happen.

This UAPB stuff should not even be happening. I've known since July, PV, UAPB, Alabama State, JSU, AAMU (sometimes) do not send out releases on a consistent basis. As a result, someone should volunteer and get the information themselves. Even if it means reading the on-line edition and re-writing a story or calling the SIDs themselves and have them tell you the info personally.

Hey it doesn't take much to be bigger than The SWAC Page

The SWAC Page might generate 50 k hits per month? Dude, if you only knew!

I personally know of ways to increase viability without spending a lot of cash. I am doing it now where I work and it could easily work here but until everyone gets on the same page here it will never happen.

What do you mean everyone? Dude, again, why do you care? I am happy with the way things are.

Again, I ask. Why do you care?

Kenn Rashad,

First, thanks from refraining from using that foul language. Secondly, I care because I am a fan of the SWAC. Is this or is this not what the SWACPAGE site is all about or is it just about YOU and how YOU feel things should be done? Again, if this is the case then YOU have every right to operate your business as YOU see fit. But, website users of this site would have the right to voice their concerns as well.

If you are so happy website, then why did you frown upon and attack University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff community about blowing up your inbox about the lack of information about their institution in regards to the NFL draft?

One would think that an owner that ask for donations from his membership posters to keep the SWACPAGE website afloat would care as well about how he communicates with his customers and website users.
