GSU vs Alcorn Game Saturday?

CHEROKEE

hey ques!
It is still bad in the State. Statewide Power Outages, GASOLINE SHORTAGE in Jackson, Vicksburg, etc..

I hope the game is still on but it is not looking good. Have anyone heard form Alcorn, GSU or The SWAC Office?

I was wondering about Jackson State also but I think their going to Detroit. I just wonder if the guys will be mentally in the game

That's a major concern. The band is scheduled to pull out Thursday night (riding buses all the way to detroit) ... The team flies out Friday morning. With conditions how they are I doubt if many of them will have their minds in the game.

I talked to this guy that I know that goes to Alcorn (amazingly I got through to somebody in Missisisppi...ALL phones services (cell phone and landline) have been devastated by Katrina, too). He told me today that Alcorn has been without power for the past two days.
I'm not sure what is going to be done about this game. I'll keep an ear out to see if they come up with anything. If it's postponed, what options do both teams have to make it up?
I'm quite sure that the NCAA will not give any school (not just Alcorn and Grambling) affected by this storm any kind of flack for rescheduling games after the Thanksgiving Holiday.

What about the game being moved to Grambling? How are the facilities at Grambling?

Grambling got rain on Saturday...that is it. Monday it was overcast, no rain, and windy. By night fall Monday there were about 5 mph winds.

Forcast for Saturday Partly Cloudy High 94, Low 69.

...........after looking at TV all yesterday and seeing what has happened and is happening,I think it would be in good taste to postpone the game, period.

Just think off all the alumni and students that are from the Gulf Coast and New Orleans.

I read an article in the Monroe News Star which said the game didn't look to be complicated by Hurricane Katrina. However, it's not about playing conditions at this point. It's about the condition of people. I was really hyped about going up to Lorman for this game, and in some ways still am, but at this point it wouldnt disappoint me at all if the game were cancelled.

This game should be postponed. The situation in all of Mississippi south of Jackson is dire--gas shortages, power outages, basic lack of supplies in general, but we all know this.

If Alcorn is without power, then the team is having a difficult time doing what they need to do to get ready. Besides, as has been already said in other posts, the players are probably not thinking about the game at this point (that goes for both sides, I'm sure).

I WANT the game to go on (can't wait-have been counting the hours!), but the realities say otherwise.

To go ahead and play this game at this point would not be a good idea IMHO.

The SWAC conference needs to make a decison today on the game and not wait around. Personally they should cancel the game and see where it could be made up

"The game doesn't look to be complicated by Hurricane Katrina, which moved through the area on Monday. But Alcorn State's gameplan could be altered."-Quote from the News Star in Monroe from today's paper.

Post updates as you get them. I was looking forward to my first visit to the reservation since high school ('88).

Is the airport in Jackson open? I'm hoping flights aren't affected. I'm counting on things to be better by Friday.

Don't look for buses anytime soon. They are being brought in from all over the country to take people from New Orleans to the Astrodome.

...........I hope they don't play this game.I don't have any relatives on the coast or in N.O. and I am here in tears as I watch the news. Some of those kids don't know how their families are doing or even where they are.Now how can they put their minds into a football game.

They can play the game on Dec.3rd if there is a need for it.If it does not have an effect on the championship at the time cancel it.

I was looking forward to the game as always, but at this point I just don't see it.

Another thing, even thou I have reservation for this weekend, will I have a place to stay if I travel down to the game. Here in Memphis, every room in the city is taken or will I find gasoline, etc.

......................POSTPONE THE GAME.............

This will truly be a challenge for JSU. I was reading where coach Bell said his focus has been feeding his guys and trying to keep them in dorms with lights. This is a trying time for JSU and not for Hampton. Hampton has not felt the effects of this storm like J-State has. It has been challenging watching film, practicing, and even relaxing with relatives in Miss, La, and Ala....It will be hard for this team to compete. The best thing for them is to play their game and try their best to control the only thing they can right now..Football. I'm actually surprised they didn't cancel, but I do understand that this is a classic and alot of money has gone into this for sponsorship and all. JSU has a tough road up ahead and I wish you all in Jackson Mississippi. Our prayers will be with all of the victims just as we have been hit hard here in La...
Good Luck!

Based on the information I am getting its looking more and more like that this game maybe played in Grambling.

Yes, this is the latest talk.

The game is at 4pm Sunday @ Alcorn. This is what Grambling players were told at practice Wednesday evening.

The game being rescheduled for Sunday in Lorman is based on the fact that Alcorn should have power restored by then correct? Does anyone know if Alcorn's power has been restored? The 4pm time Is in place in the event the stadium does not have lights correct? But what about the scoreboard if no power is restored? What is plan B if this fails?

A scoreboard is not required. If there ever is a failure with the scoreboard the time shall be kept on the field by the officials. The score will be kept be the officials and teams.

Rule: 3-3-8b - Unless a visual game clock is the official timepiece, the referee also shall inform each field captain and head coach when approximately two
minutes of playing time remain in each half. He may order the clock stopped for that purpose.
1. The 25-second count is not interrupted.
2. The clock starts on the snap after the two-minute notification.
