State Fair Classic at the Cotton Bowl.......

Dallas Mayor Laura Miller will announce a contract extension Friday that will keep Grambling's game against Prairie View A&M at the Cotton Bowl through 2015.
The Morning News and WFAA-TV in Dallas are both reporting that Miller has called a 9 a.m. news conference at the facility's 50-yard line.

Miller will also announce that the Texas-Oklahoma game will remain at the Cotton Bowl during the State Fair....................

Re: State Fair Classic at the Cotton Bowl.......

Everyone knows the OU-UT game is moving once the new stadium is complete.

Re: State Fair Classic at the Cotton Bowl.......

I guess since its the State fair Classic they want it at the State Fair....but dang it would have been nice for the game to go to the new stadium.

Re: State Fair Classic at the Cotton Bowl.......

Exactly. Why do we have to play in the raggedy ass stadium?

The article says that they are going to take the bond money (that was suppose to go to improving the stadium to keep the Cotton Bowl) and give it as incentives to UT/OH and do some upgrades to the Cotton Bowl.

The Cotton Bowl committee said "WE OUT, we are looking to host a BCS game". You can well believe that Arlington will find some games to host in that new Cowboy stadium.

Re: State Fair Classic at the Cotton Bowl.......

you go where you going to get paid.....Cowboy Stadium would drive the fans away with ridiculous prices...see the LDC at Reliant..$15 parking..$35 tickets

HELLO! I guess 50$ grows on trees for the avg football fan or they'll sacrifice and pay it according to some. :retard: Maybe @ the Div I FBS level but not @ Div I FCS level if you're attempting to pack the stands.

BTW, the LDC REALLY needs to move from Reliant. We REALLY need our own stadium on campus. :smh:

Berry center send help!

Re: State Fair Classic at the Cotton Bowl.......

it's about economics...fancy stadiums are nice but they've proven to be disasters in 1st year games in our conference

PV and SU moved to Reliant in 2002 and topped out at 26K...first-ever HBCU schools now....

The atmosphere is what makes the game...you move it to the suburbs and that's it......you folks who can afford the high prices will attend the game but the average fan who has supported the Cotton Bowl game (PV-GSU) won't...

Re: State Fair Classic at the Cotton Bowl.......

Interesting. But we as black folk will pack a concert that cost 50 dollars a pop or even more. But we can't pay 35 dollars for a football game that is a Classic. Oh well I guess we will never arrive. Maybe we just need to just do home and home games and forget about the Classic stuff. Too bad each of our HBCUs can't afford to build at least a 25-30K stadium on our campuses and just play there.

Re: State Fair Classic at the Cotton Bowl.......

that's the way it is.....you move to a fancy stadium and the prices are driven up faster than gas...you look at Reliant for example....the concessions stands are virtually empty..parking prices are atrocious and day of game tickets run $30.

Imagine the prices in the $1 billion Cowboy Stadium..you think they are going to cut a deal to PV-GSU?

Great move Dallas....great move

Grambling and Prairie View will also see their compensation rise to $200,000 by 2015, though some Council members said they will try to boost that amount. <font color=red>That game currently gets $50,000. </font>

Under the new agreement, <font color=red>Texas and OU would get an additional $600,000 to split beginning in 2008, which is on top of the $250,000 under the current agreement. Then in 2012, the total will rise to $1 million through 2015. </font>

Run negroes, run!!!! lol I hope like hell PV-GS never sells the cotton bowl out. :emlaugh:

This is absurdly comical. :emlaugh:

Panthro,

True!!

Shaking My Head!!

Charles McClelland mention his particular concern regarding the State Fair Classic a couple of years ago.

I someday wish that PV and GSU officials take greater control of that game.

This was my BIGGEST gripe the last 17 or so years while watching $$$$$ go to/fro everyone else <b>BUT</b> GSU or PVU.

1952 Negro Day @ the texas State Fair... (whatever the official name is now) State Fair Classic send damn help. :smh:

I have long wished that the two schools took more control. The $50K figure is too much of a joke.

It's really a slap in the face considering the economic impact it has on Dallas AND it's surrounding suburbs. *sigh* However, NOT on the same level that ou-ut have. But still, it's a major impact. In talking to fair contractors, it's the 2nd busiest day behind ut-ou and yet we settle for...

I just don't know what to say. I understand Charles' position. Quite a bit of $$$$ to turn your back on. It's our largest payday/game and historically (in the past) it was GSU's 2nd largest payday/game. So, quite a bit is riding on this for both schools. It's just when I crunch the #s....

~50,000 (on avg) vs actual ticket price ~20$.... equals 1,060,000$. After re-imbursing security detail (~6-7 hrs worth), not to mention 10$ per vehicle parking :retard: for the > 40,000 folx that the city keeps, stadium rental (discounted because the game is being played there  ), dallas keeps concessions, economic impact to local hotels/eateries where precious tax dollars are recouped, ...*sigh* see where I'm going? And we get 50,000$ apiece from the "big" city. :emlaugh:

Those white folx @ ou-ut spend the SAME color dollar for the SAME exact service. Why were they receiving 200,000$ more apiece not to mention some OTHER percentages of the gate receipts? :emlaugh: And, why are theirs to increase to 1 million $ and ours increases to a paltry 200,000$? AND!!!!! albeit we don't sell out the stadium <b>consistently</b>, we've <b>consistently, on average,</b> put well over 50,000 peeps in the seats.

I swear if you can't see the forest because of the trees on this one... :smh: So, a difference of 13-15K people between the games is enough to differentiate 300,000$ between the 2 games? :emlaugh: This is the closest I'll ever get to Negro Day @ the texas State Fair. :emlaugh: Same type treatment. :emlaugh: But, we <b>settle</b> for it, so I don't blame the adversary for (mis)treating us as such.

Somebody correct me, but that $50K is a guarantee that the City pays to each school and does not include revenue generated from ticket sales right?

If this is the case, then do not blame the school for that amount. GSU and PV folks are not spending money in the West End like the people from Texas/OU. Thus the difference.

But the ratio is far to great, What OU-TU gets vs what we get. we contribute to the tax base also. 50k people spending money is alot of tax dollars.

Sorry 50K still doesn't compare to 75K (and at higher ticket prices too without general admission). We are not selling out downtown hotel rooms, instead we are staying over at Uncle Charlie's house or at Bebe's house.

Sorry, the two just don't compare.

Are folk advocating that we demand more or we'll pick up and leave? Okay... where would we go that this game would draw 15k much less 45-50k? It would be great to get more from the city...perhaps $100K minimum, but I don't think we could expect much more for the expenses that we incur.

The Bayou Classic is a bigger Marquee name and until recently we only got more than $50K from the City of New Orleans...the only reason that got pushed up is because of the interest from other cities in having the game. I don't think many cities are screaming for the GSU-PV matchup. Let's be realist!

I have only been to one game in the last seven years. But I remember the nineties games being well over 50K. In 1992 I could have sworn that the entire stadium was filled. Anyway, I naturally feel that our schools should be more.
