Grambling voted in the top 25 to move to FBS

Exactly. People need to realize that if you don't have the resources and funds to make such a move, your school should AT LEAST have some quality leadership who are progressive and competent enough to form a strategic plan for such a move. When Dr. Harvey arrived at Hampton in the 1980s, he formed a strategic 10-year plan to move out of the CIAA and into the MEAC. Not only did his plan provide a smooth transition, his teams came into the conference kicking ass. That is the type of leadership that most of our schools lack. I don't even know why anyone brought Alabama State's name into this topic. Their new president is the dude from Clark-Atlanta who...nevermind. :shame:

Whomever said anything about Prairie View making such a move is stupid as hell and certainly don't know how things work in this state OR the board to which PVAMU reports to. How dumb.... :smh: I don't care if PV's enrollment #s hit 10,000 tomorrow, it STILL won't happen. Great proof of this 'process' is the fact that PVAMU STILL plays in a dilapitated stadium in the year 2012. How the fvck can PVAMU consider a move to FBS when it cannot even rally the alumni base to erect a new stadium that seats 22K-25K? :emlaugh: :D lol Duhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.... Be realistic for once... sheeeeesh. :retard:

Adding to what JR has said, our administration would have to look at what others have successfully done (Boise State, preferably). Another thing is they have to engage our alumni and fans. Our administrations aren't transparent enough...share the plans and vision with us and inform the community of your plans and needs. Engage the city - there is no reason why JSU hasn't put itself in the position to move up. We're the only public institution in our state's capital. Get the city behind you, and show the businesses how their support to our university will reap them benefits. We have a large fan base, and that could be key to their support.

Increase your enrollment while maintaining academic integrity - it appears that Meyers is doing that now at JSU. Increased enrollments mean more fans in the stands, and more student fees. I love the HBCU atmosphere, but it needs enhancing. Have you gone to an SEC game? The player intros, the electricity in the stadium? Kids and athletes are attracted to that...athletes will come play for you and the kids are being engrained at an early age to become fans and supporters of your institution. And that's just the start of it.

I don't know about that. I wouldn't talk about it at all until it's happening. like tommorow we're joing the WAC. that would be the first time you'd hear me mention it. too many people that will do all they can to derail the plan once they know what's going on. Evidence Joe Reed, who sold out the school to try and hold on to power, and I'm sure that part of his actions had to do with big political players in the state of alabama. Josh Moon has been shooting arrows at bama state and moving to fbs, but no one over there will say 2 words to him about anything. they've learned. as a matter of fact anytime you inquire about that subject over there you only get a smile and a wink.

by the way, i think the wac is going to be the spot for anyone moving up soon. they only have 2 football playing teams left. they are looking for a slew of squads to save their conference. It only takes one school to move up to open the door for everyone else. Lets say JSU moved to the wac. after a few years they leave to form their own conference and invite bama state, sc state, famu, tn state, tx so and su. nothing anyone can do about it. it only takes someone to break the door down.

Dr. Meyers is all about high enrollment numbers at JSU!

She is and I don't doubt that JSU's enrollment will exceed 10-11k in the coming years. However, my only concern is will it affect the academic integrity of the university.

Dr. Meyers' and her staff (Hoard & Rennick) and Dr. Harvey at Hampton are the only administrations among HBCUs, right now, that are competent enough to formulate a strategic plan to make such a move to FBS. People forget that our current staff at JSU were the same ones at NC A&T who formulated their strategic plan to move to FBS.

Jackson State will easily get the high enrollment and more donors in the next few years. Our problem is marketing, large amounts of financial support among alums/fans, a few other variables I will not mention.

Do you know what prevented A&T from going to FBS?

Its not like we have Morehouse and Howard in the SWAC ROTFL. Some think they are on that level but the fact of the matter is no one in the SWAC can down the next on academics. BTW. The first thing the business minded think about when moving to the FBS I'd football, not academics. People can dress up statements all they want to. Smoke screens st its best.

That's because their academics are already in order. And you best believe those business minded folks you speak of are the ACADEMIC leadership of those schools. It aint just some AD or Football coach talking lets move up. Their Board and President are already on board early on. But they have done their homework to see what it takes other than just moving the team up to FBS. You got to remember all these Presidents are academic types. They have to see what this means on that side of the business of educating students. Boise State knew they had to increase their academic offering to get more students to come to your school so you can have more revenue to help pay for stuff that your alums and donors don't do. If we have to grow our enrollments. Each of our Presidents and Chancellors will need to evaluate everything before making that kind of jump. You also have to remember if you are FBS in football. You got to offer more scholarships. You also now got to make sure you have enough sports to match up for that Title IX compliance when you add more male scholarships. You have more coaches and academic support you have to offer. We already are struggling with that on the FCS level with resources. So yeah that academic thing is key. Especially for us. We have to make our schools more attractive all around for the students that don't play ball to want to come so we can get them to pay those athletic fees. LOL. So the more you can offer, the more students you can recruit. We laugh at those FBS schools for having all those wild majors that we don't to keep kids eligible. Well guess what we are going to have to do to compete at that level. Unless you are going to just accept getting your head bashed in all the time at the FBS level. Boise State has been the most successful move from FCS to FBS. But they were smart. They moved years ago when they were a dominate 1-AA team. So did Marshall. We can't just be glad to be FBS. The plan has to be detailed enough to make us successful at that level. Meaning, getting into a decent conference that is not about to fold up because everyone is jumping ship and getting our alums and donors to commit to us making this move. You know it will be some haters wanting us to fail, namely your state FBS level schools. So everything has to be legit all across the board. Not just football wise. Everything.

Of course academics are already str8 at those schools, hell they never were open admissions so that's not up for discussion so they don't have to worry about that, they don't have to worry about attendance because they have 50 to 90 thousand weekly so it definitely would take an HBCU to get things in order to make that move with minimal problems. Their alumni give and they have better coaches to be competitive. It's mindboggling that some actually think their school can make the move when they don't have the financial backing and lackluster coaching. Academics are definitely not on the level that it should be either. No one in the SWAC, MEAC, CIAA etc are ready and probably will never be ready.

Fans and alums can't be apart of the vision when they have no idea of the vision...especially black folks. It's hard enough to get us to give back, and for us to give back without knowing where our money is going...LOL!

let me say it like this then. that stadium, the other new athletic facilities, the new coaches and the former coaches who aren't there b/c they couldn't get it done all are saying pretty clearly what the vision is. the new academic building and programs also speak to where they are trying to go. just certain things they realize in the state of alabama you can't just bust out and say because they will try and kill your dream. to your point though, the admin did share their vision in their 2020 plan. talks about growth of the univeristy physical plant, programs, and everything inbetween, except..you got it, a move to fbs.

Dude you're silly............As far as I know Grambling is the reigning indoor and outdoor SWAC Champions in Track and Field

The track coach has more championships than Eddie Rob if I'm not mistaken.....but I will check.

Until then this is his background....well a little.

Lovell hoped to accept a scholarship to San Jose State from a pool of nearly 200 offers not long after representing Trinidad and Tobago in the 1972 Olympics in Munich, Germany.

John Carlos, most famous for his and SJSU teammate Tommie Smith's "black power salute" at the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City, advised his friend and opponent to instead attend Grambling if he didn't think he would have enough money to assure he would graduate SJSU.

I would like to see these Jsu posters organize and lobby their president to move to the OVC. :emlaugh: I'm quite sure everyone would be happy when they close the door behind them.

And replace them with Tennessee State. :emlaugh:

Most of us know that it takes more than just a good football team to move up to FBS.:emlaugh:

I'd rather be a football school than a golf one.

I'd rather be a well-rounded school in both academics and athletics than just hanging on to Eddie Robinson's history.
Take football away, what do you have left, but that's not what this thread is about.

Again.
You ttwo smackers/haters think that is an insult. I would jump for joy if JSU left this god awful backwards conference to hambone/kneeslapping/back in the day schools like yours.
