Gov. signs bill dissolving stadium commission


JSU's share of receipts at the stadium in 2006 was in the range of $1.5 million with the school getting 93 percent of gate receipts and half of concession and parking revenues. So now we will be 100 percent of the gate and 100 of the concession and parking. Let's say that's an extra $1 million. The only other events at the stadium is the high school championship and an occasional NFL preseason game every five to six years. So big deal. It is a stadium that has struggled to attract events for years. And an extra million a year isn't going to build JSU a new on-campus stadium. And for those of you who believe the state is going to build Jackson State a stadium larger than USM's facility. :lol: :shame: You must enjoy living in a fantasy world. And also remember the profits will be earmarked for JSU but controlled by the state College Board. Jackson State is getting ready to get the shaft and some of you fail to see it. :shame:

Sometime deals done in the dark should remain in the dark because the light may be blinding for some!! Some political figures in MS are truly in favor of JSU stadium aspirations however they will not jeopardize their political clout openly in fear of derailing their careers, so this deal has been structured to mitigate the fallout of direct support for JSU by taking the indirect route which ultimately leads to the same place. I hope this helps.
 
And if y'all decide to sell Mumford East, your new on campus trap better have a place for folks to tailgate. :lol: :emlaugh:

Since you will never be satisfied...................PLEASE TELL US WHAT YOUR PLAN IS.:nod:

You not satisfied with the plan for the on-campus stadium and your not satisfied with the plan for Memorial.
Enlighten us with your vision please.

Hell......................Maybe if the STATE told us we had to pay MARKET PRICE to use Memorial, that would make them happy cause that would put us in a budget hole and give them MORE to complain about. :lol:

This is sooo much bigger than the AD @ JSU!!!! It's gonna take some time for alot of people to get there arms around this thing! You have to remember when one has done the same thing for so long there is a natural relunctancy and skepticism to change! The picture will begin to clear itself up in a little bit.

I just want us to fight, a lawsuit if needed, and not just accept whatever they give us. If they want the land, then build us an on-campus stadium that fits our needs. They have done just that for every school in the state. Yet, they failed to pass the 32 million dollar bond proposal for an on-campus stadium and meanwhile they moved everything in the direction of tearing down Memorial and they throw us a bone to keep us quiet. Look, stag...I know we don't hold the upper hand. But going off like a lamb to the slaughter is not something I like to see. And do you honestly believe Jackson State will receive enough profit from Memorial to build even a 30,000-seat stadium before they tear down Memorial. And do you honestly believe lawmakers, who failed to pass the 32 million dollar bond proposal for an on-campus stadium, will reconsider next year, and pass such a proposal. I don't.

Do you HONESTLY think you'll see Memorial stadium come down and JSU have no place to play.
Do you honestly believe that.

There is so much to this than just TEARING DOWN and then BUILDING us one it's mind blowing.

These profit's are NOT going to build JSU a stadium................Not even ear marked for that.
This money will be used for the WHOLE OF JSU.


As for what they just did with Memorial and JSU with this deal..............Buying time.
EXAMPLE:
You see POST #40 up there for the 60 million dollar developement?
That has been hashed out over 3 years.

Remember the land that is across the street from UMC next to Murrah Highschool.
That plan by 2 developers , DUECE being one, was developed at the same time and it still has not got to the building stage..................Condo's, Hotels, Shopping, Apartments?

THOSE PROPERTIES HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH MEMORIAL or UMC.
They waiting on the TAX Incentives and other shat to be worked out with the State of Mississipp before they build 1 parking stall.

Shat don't happen over night and when you talking about $100,000,000 plus projects like the stadium and everything with it, it will take years to hash out now that everyone is seriously in the "It's gonna happen one day" stage.

Mason said he's taking the prospect of a new stadium "a little more serious" this time because the project would be linked to potential UMC growth. UMC Vice Chancellor Dr. Dan Jones told a group of business and community leaders in January the campus needed to expand to include a new research park. Mason said he was even more encouraged after speaking recently with Gov. Haley Barbour about it.:no:

However, Barbour's spokesman, Pete Smith, said the governor did not recall talking to Mason about any stadium plans.:uhoh:

"It wasn't an official conversation, so he probably doesn't remember it," Mason said when informed of Barbour's response. "We spoke more in passing at a dinner function. But I think this is a great idea and is something that should go through ... it's become clear to everyone that the only place for the medical center to expand is where the old stadium is now."

I guess this is a good example of keeping your mouth shut until its a done deal. I'm sure Mason received a call from the Governor stating to never do that again. Conversations between the Governor and Mason should not be out in the public.

The governor was on our board he keeps giving us out parcels,the VET:emlaugh: and support and he didn't recall speaking to Mason. Yeah right.:emlaugh:
