Gov. Haley Barbour has signed a bill that will dissolve the Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium Commission and give control of the facility to the Department of Finance and Administration and Jackson State University.

Senate Bill 2745 abolishes the commission July 1, 2008.

The stadium is home to Jackson State University football games and high school state championships. The university?s $32 million request for a stadium on its west Jackson campus this year failed.

If JSU can sell the Stadium which I bet there is some loophole that says they can't without approval of the state. But say JSU can sell the property. Then could they make enough money off of the sale to build an on campus stadium? The bad thing is that if you sold it to UMC, they would have a demolition of the stadium immediately and JSU would need to have a place to play. I guess I need some explanation on what this means for JSU now. Is this just a way to say here JSU you run the stadium and leave us(state of Ms) alone?

Man.........................You know it's some kind of clause that keep's the STATE OF MISSISSIPPI the sole owner of that land.

Ain't no way they gonna hand over 300 to 500 million dollars in potential revenues to JSU through future sale of that property.:lol:

We could build another campus with that..............:lol:

Good/bad part of this is it will be revisited.
The burn center failed also.
They running out of options and they are NOT going to give us a free ride in Memorial taking ALL the profit's forever.

SEE PEOPLE....................This is what we mean by having them by the ball's wether the stadium proposal went through this year or 4 years from now.
We just went from paying rent of $15,000 per game and no upkeep to $0 rent per game, no upkeep, and all the profit's.:lol:

Did they mention that this might include the rent's from the businesses located there also.

There, you heard it here first. Barbour is washing his hand plain and simple.
 
Like Stagg says we will get to use it free of charge and the Finance Administration will have to pay for upkeep. We also then will profit from all events held at the venue. Battle of the Bands, Highschool Playoffs and JSU home games. We will also make more in the Cap city classic. LOL


We may not own our stadium but who has a better deal oncampus or off. I like my Gorvner(ebonics). I live in the sip. LOL

If these people here want to keep paying money into Memorial and letting JSU pimp them for the profits.....................so be it.:nod:
 
I need to see a write-up on the good and the bad of this. Right now, every thing is looking good. So does this mean the Lion's club will no longer take tickets at JSU games? If so, having Terry Sue and Willie Lee out there ain't gonna do no better. Remember, who created the "hook up"...:lmao:

Don't forget user fees from Jiffy Lube, Backyard Burger, and any other business down there on those 26 achers. :winkgrin:

And according to the proposal I saw a few weeks ago, we also have a say in what other event's are scheduled for Memorial........................Sporting or Non-sporting events. :lol:

I agree but this sounds just too good to be true. Someone mentioned this a few weeks ago and I called them stupid...the next day, I saw this proposal...LOL

Honestly, this does not sound too good to me, we may end up paying more to get Memorial every week, don't you think? This does not say where the Department of Finance and Admin will get the money to pay ALL expenses. Will it come out of JSU's ticket sales. This reads like they will collect all ticket sales, pay all expenses, and give us what is left. I guess that is how every other school is ran but this formula may not be better than the previous one. We shall see. At least we are STILL not responsible for year round upkeep.

If that be the case then its only fair but we're making money from "every" event held on stadium "property". I'm talking battle of the bands, High School championships, Jiffy Lube, UMC, Backyard Burger and etc.
 
This is ALLLL good for JSU. You will reap more profits even after all fees are paid because you manage parking and maybe concessions. When the state of Mississippi gets pissed at your success at the stadium; they will come running to build you what you want on campus.
 
As good as this sounds, I've got to see the ramifications of this. I hope the following things DON'T happen:

1. The grass around the Stadium won't get cut.
2. The Stadium crew won't clean the stands immediately after the game...
3. There won't be enough (or any) tissue/paper towels in the bathrooms.
4. Nachos will go from $3.50 to $5.00...
5. Instead of Coke products, they'll start selling Faygo's and Sam's Choice sodas.
6. The M&Ms and Snickers will be old (and outdated)....Not fresh...
7. Press parking will become VIP parking with tricked-out Crown Vics sitting on 26s (with Nascar tags).
8. Hinds County SO gets replaced with Wright's Detectives (for security).
9. The vendor fees skyrocket, creating a 'flea market' out in the parking lot....Wait, it's like that already... Never mind....
10. They'll turn off two of the light towers, running only four, trying to save money.....
11. No more band battles long after the game is over. Clock hits 00:00, the lights go out...
12. Various other 'cost cutting measures'........
