Gimmie Back my ring Snowbunny!

I know a guy makes good money, nice house, car, and spends tons of loot on prostitutes, even
asked one to marry him bought her a ring and everything. She turned him down saying she doesn't
want to be tied down and have to answer to any man. He took her to his house, offered to buy her a
car etc. etc if she would marry him, she still said no.

So I'm like dude how bout you leave these hookers alone, I know some real women you could holla @
that would love to get married etc etc
He got all clammed up and said na, I'm like dude these some pretty real ladies, he just
blanked out and said something about some prostitutes, I'm like wow! something mental is going on here.

They already make money man from the outset. LOL. The high end jewelers want to keep folks coming back. Not all black folks get ripped off. My frat bruh is a Patent Attorney and very skilled in negotiations. LOL. Maybe some dumb ball player may get ripped off. You think your President would get ripped off if he went to a jeweler?

I'm not sure if OUR President has gotten ripped off before, since I have never been with him when he purchased his or Michelle's diamonds. But since I'm not one of those extremely emotional brothers, I still say toilet paper has a more useful value than any diamond in this world. :emlaugh:

Yep, he would.

If Barack Obama walked into Tiffany's today to buy Michelle a ring and paid the retail price that is listed on the diamond, then he would get soaked just like everyone else who paid retail for a diamond.

The only way he wouldn't get soaked is if he got a special discount or something like that.

Very few people haggle the price of a diamond ring. Most go into a store, see the price listed and decide if they want to buy or not. Even if somebody did negotiate the price, it's highly unlikely that the seller will let him buy it for cost. There will always be a profit margin built in. Usually an extremely high profit margin for jewels.

Like JAG89 said, these people are not in the business of losing money. Especially the high end dealers.

I bet he was raised by his mother only.

What is SOAKED in your opinion. The whole point of business is to make money. I've yet to see a good businessperson sell at cost or less than cost on everything they have and remain open. So how much mark up would be soaked? Merchandise markup generally has a starting point of 33% so soaked is what?

CT,
Diamonds are super marked up. The only reason I went retail was to save time. I probably spent an extra two thousand for that as well.

True!!! Most, if not all merchandise are sold at more than face value for a businessperson to make money, but other than sentimental value, what useful value can you find in a diamond?

I have three family members in the business. One is a gemologist.

They markup diamond rings 100% which is common in the industry. They are doing what other jewelers are doing.

And that's fine to me. We want our fiancees and wives to be happy.

A 100% markup only becomes highway robbery when you're the poor sap trying to sell the ring back and you're not able to get nearly what you paid for it.

And you learn ... too late ... that you could have gotten the same ring for much less.

My question is, other than being a rare mineral from the earth, which is questionable, what makes diamonds so valuable?

It like I always say...its all good until you have to pay more than you want, to people you didn't foresee, in ways you didn't expect  That gotdayum heavyweight champeen...shidddddd!

what is super marked up? 50%+?... and from watching Blood Diamond, hell, I'd mark them up also...

It's funny you mentioned the movie "Blood Diamond", which is about Black folks in Africa being murdered and getting paid peanuts over mining diamonds that most likely a great deal of those same diamonds will be sold to Blacks in America for way more than they are worth. It's almost similar to the cocaine war, people of color are getting screwed as the ones harvesting the goods and as the ones consuming the goods.
