Florida State To Donate Scoreboard To Florida A&M

so yall gonna tell yall schools not to take those money game checks, too?
I hope you not referring to JSU because that's actually in the works with JSU to play other FCS non hbcu so yes it's time out for the money games for us. We are depending on our alumni to make up the difference. We just launched a pre campaign for athletics for a new practice feild and a indoor practice facility. But if u were not coming for JSU then dis regard my comment !!

take it how ever you want.

If they're getting this framing too, great. Otherwise FAMU will have to have it built, plus run power and cover maintenance cost...there WILL be costs. If they can absorb that w/o much sweat...good deal.

Unfortunately, we are going start the 2016 season off with a payout game.

Since it costs FSU over $5,000 it is considered a capital asset for the state of Florida and depending on when it was purchased may still have some value to it as it hasn't been fully depreciated. So now FAMU will add it to their books as a capital asset and off FSU.

I'll just leave it at that.
Yes fellow accountant!!!

Considering the history of those two schools, I think it's a good gesture. The fact that this gesture is newsworthy is what gives it the "hand me down" angle but the good outweighs the bad. if they would have gave it to a private school in the same city people would have complained about it as well

It's a nice gesture on the part of FSU, but there is a part of me that looks at this and (unfortunately) can't help but to see this as a the big PWI sending it's "hand-me-down" to the HBCU down the street.

FSU is doing for FAMU, what FAMU can't do for itself.

We were definitely working on replacing our current video board. We actually paid a lot of money for the previous video board which was installed only about 4 or 5 years ago(the company went out of business and repairing the scoreboard was a pain in the rear).

I don't see it as a hand-me down...our AD has noticed that we can work with FSU on some things, and this is one of them. The Orlando Magic also wanted to gift us their scoreboard from the Amway Arena before they opened the Amway Center. The University of Florida also gave us their old baseball scoreboard, but we never used it.

We're utilizing all resources while getting our program back up to par.

"Pride" the reason some of our HBCU athletic programs failing. Nothing wrong with a hand me down, I wish SU could of sent Grambling they old video board. ULL cajun dome is using the old scoreboard from the Pelicans and SELU is using the turf from the saints.

Now I can find racisim in just about anything, but I can't find it in this one. I think it was a great gesture. Y'all lost me with this one.
I don't think anyone said anything about racism. I, like you, don't see any racism in this either. I agree that it was a great gesture by FSU, I've said as much, but given the current financial status and the overall history between both institutions, the optics of the donation leaves one to speculate. That's my point.

With that said, I can admit that if I'm the FAMU AD/President, I'd accept the donation as well.

I strongly disagree. Money (or lack thereof) is the reason our HBCU athletic programs are stuggling/failing. Let's not get it twisted.

True but I do know some instances where "pride" has hurt some programs...like my own. We've gotten in our own way so many times.

But yes, lack of financial support has always bitten our programs in the butt. I'm hopeful that we'll all get it together eventually.

Good for FAMU. There is nothing wrong with any FBS program helping out a FCS program. Of course, since FAMU is a HBCU, some folks are going to try to make a big press deal out of it while others will attempt to compare them to what a ACC school can accomplish. If Texas A&M gives a hand out to Stephen F Austin, nobody will have anything negative to say.
