SUjagTILLiDIE,

Where is your data to support that theory. Jafus send help.

Smile!!

One must have data to support such a theory. With the results of the SWAC Championship Game winners and the Conference All Sports Trophy winners, one could suggests that an actual hypothesis would be that the current format of participating the Bayou Classic is creating an athletic department advantage for the two participating institutions over the rest of the conference members.

Like I thought. 1 illion a piece at the least. May be a little over...

You do the math. :lmao:

BALANCING THE BOOKS
With small athletic budgets, historically black colleges and universities often rely on classics to generate the bulk of their revenue Saturday, November 24, 2007By Jeff Duncan
When Greg LaFleur worked in the athletic department at LSU, he never worried about revenue.

During his tenure as the Tigers' associate athletic director from 1991 to 2001, the school earned about $3 million for each home football game, according to LaFleur. Last year, LSU's athletic budget was more than $70 million, with almost $48 million going to football.

Now in his third season as the athletic director at Southern, LaFleur has to watch every penny. His entire athletic budget for 18 teams was $7.9 million last year.

That's why the Bayou Classic is so important. LaFleur said the revenue Southern will earn from today's game will amount to almost a third of the total revenue for this athletic budget. "It's a huge asset to our department," LaFleur said. "We largely depend on the Bayou Classic for our total athletic budget. For Division I-AA schools, there's no other way you can generate that kind of revenue."

So let me ask you what is a third of 7.9 million. :lmao: FOOL

Dude say what you want but Grambling and su don't take home 2.5 million a piece after all expenses are paid. The Classic has never paid that much. LaFleur is inflating some figures or something....

Has a comparison been made of the attendances for games played the week before/after the Thanksgiving weekend versus the Thanksgiving weekend date? I would be interested to see if there's a significant difference.

My objection to changing the BC is more a matter of principle. The NCAA's arrogant disregard for our traditional playing dates pisses me off and makes me unwilling to change. But I'm not the type to cut off my hand because of a hang nail. If moving the date is in the best interest of Grambling's overall program development, then I can put aside my annoyance with how the NCAA didn't take into consideration of our traditional date.

If you want to be technical, it isn't a theory but a hypothesis... that's why I preferenced it by using the words Then if . IF the other schools begin to participate and we (Gram/SU) do not and our win/loss record against those schools takes a negative turn, I feel reasonably sure that their recruiting benefited from participation in the playoffs. Just a theory (hypothesis).

So why hasn't the MEWACK gone pass the second round or made it to the finals yet.

Why don't the MEWACK have any consistency in their top tier schools?

Why is the MEWACK constantly changing coaches like they change draws?

Why hasn't SU win/loss taken a negative turn?

So much for your theroy.

1. The MEAC has gone 1 round further than us... but why select the MEAC? We are more geographically closer to the SLC. They haven't won a lot in the playoffs but they have owned the SWAC...especially SU before yall got scared to play them and return contracted games. My contention is that they are getting better athletes... either that or our coahes are very overpaid since these lesser paid coaches have whupped a lot of azz, enough azz to make folk stop scheduling them.

2. Consistency? Are you saying that Hampton and SC State are not consistent winners? Even FAMU was a consistent winner prior to their recent missteps in the athletic dept. But who wins a conference championship doesn't have anything to do with playoff participation... you lost me on that one. It ain't like Hampton can say to a kid considering another MEAC school " choose us because they don't want to go to the playoffs".

3. Did you add this "got nothing to do with it" question just to add numbers? What does coaching changes have to with playoff participation. Haven't you noticed the many coaching changes within the SWAC. Coaching changes occur for many reasons... sometimes it isn't even about winning or your school being in an FCS playoffs conference.

4. How many MEAC schools have you played? Were they a playoff team in the season that you played them? What was the score? Now substitute SLC in the same questions? What is your record against the last 6 games against SLC schools? What was the score in your closest loss?

You can divert and play dumb (if you're playing), but the fact is simply that SU and GSU has taken a hit in recruiting against these same SLC schools that folk are saying "They don't have a recruiting edge". Well, why is it that yall refuse to return the game with McNeese? Why yall no longer schedule Nichols? What happened to make yall end the Northwestern series? Let me answer... fear!

They haven't won a lot in the playoffs but they have owned the SWAC...especially SU before yall got scared to play them and return contracted games. Don't you ever get tired of this dumbazz comment seeing that SU has played more games involving SLC schools then the entire SWAC? Not to mention it was *ram that was two and done. It's starting to make you sound like a bitter batch. My contention is that they are getting better athletes... either that or our coahes are very overpaid since these lesser paid coaches have whupped a lot of azz, enough azz to make folk stop scheduling them.

1.Because this topic got started from debates on the MEWAC board and the fact you thought your coach was bolting to the MEWAC to participate in the payoff games.

1b. I don't believe they're getting better athletes. In some case they may have had that year, in others we just got out coach.

2. No they are not. Just recently Hampton has become the most consistent of them all (i'm sure you know that) but for the most part their top tier schools are a one year wonder then they drop damn near to the bottom.

2b. BTW FAMU hasn't been able to compete in anybody's payoff game for awhile now. You must have forgotten about that.

3.Oh I don't know, I thought it might have something to do with all the improved recruiting you claim you get my participating in the payoff games.

3b.No I haven't notice the SWAC changing coaches every other year or two. Have you?

4. How many MEAC schools have you played? Were they a playoff team in the season that you played them? What was the score? Now substitute SLC in the same questions? What is your record against the last 6 games against SLC schools? What was the score in your closest loss?

Now your starting to sound like those dumbazzes over on the MEWAC board.

I'll tell you what, I'll give you the same courtesy I give then. Grab your mouse and get to clicking

As usual a *ram alum thinking he's smarter then God, trying to reverse divert . :emlaugh:

Not smarter than God but obviously smarter than you... Did you attend SU or James Frazier VoTech? Nevermind, don't embarass yourself.

I think we can have it both ways - if it works out.

The FCS is considering expanding the playoffs from 16 to 20, possibly 24 teams. If they expand to 20 teams, that'd mean the top four seeds would earn a first-round 'bye'. If GSU, SU or Alabama State were ever ranked that high (at the end of the season), then theoretically they could still play the BC and TDC and still host a playoff game the following week. The only disadvantage (for those three schools) would be not having a week of rest between the games.

But for the other seven SWAC schools (not chosen to play in the GSC) but still ranked in the FCS top 20, they could participate.

The problem is, raising the level of play conference-wide so we could place more than 2 teams in the FCS polls and keep them there all season, giving us a say (or a choice) in the playoffs.......

Then if my theory that playoff participation helps recruiting proves to be true (evidenced by GSU and SU no longer being perennial winners), you will see the BC changed to the weekend prior to Thanksgiving faster than fast.

This is from last season. This is where the games are won and lost, linemen. Who's outrecruiting who again. Notice where SU's linemen were ranked compared to the southland.

Some of us are so lost. Its not the players. The Swac has waaayyyyyyyy better athletes.

Not trying to dampen your enthusiasm, but two kids out of all the quality players in the state isn't having a productive recruiting within your home state. Plus the kid from Eunice is a prop...nothing against prop, but there's no guarantee that he will ever see game action.

Not trying to put down on the SWAC athletes, but there are a lot that we are missing out on. My contention is that negative recruiting is going on using our head to head record and lack of playoff participation. Again, it's just my opinion, but until we either play these schools regular season or playoff and get some victories, we're gonna lose out on some talent that we should be signing.

Its way more than 2 kids. I just wanted to point out linemen because that where the game is won. For some reason everyone thinks they get better linemen, than we do, but in reality they don't.
We can also negative recruit against the SLC. They don't hve the tradition we have. The SLC in its history hasn't hired 1 black head football coach. The Swac has a history, of hiring its players to coach. Southeastern and Nicholls plays in a glorified High School stadium, with no fans. Northwestern has no fans. Contray to popular belief, McNeese weight room is deplorable and struggles with attendence compared to SU. I can go on and on. Open you're eyes.

So in view of all these shortcomings, why are they getting better players? If they are not getting better players, why are they winning in head to head matchup? We can hid behind the excuse that "they don't bring anyone to our stadium" or "they didn't play us in the past"...but I think it's insecure coaches who don't want to get their azz kicked. When Grambling and Southern fans thought we could kick McNeese's azz we were all excited and clamoring for the opportunity to play them. Now we have every excuse in the world...

I agree with you to a certain extent, we definitely have to pick up our OOC competition. I'm not totally against playing a good D-II school if you have other strong schools in the OOC schedule. But we definitely have to do away with the Allens, Lincolns, Concordias, etc of the world, there's no reason we should be playing NAIA schools ever. But I'm not so sure that we need to be in the playoffs to recruit well. We recruit pretty well now, how much we do to develop those players is another matter, and it doesn't help that we limit ourselves, or are limited, depending on your perspective, to black athletes also hurts. But I think picking up our OOC schedules and being competitive there will only help in that regard.

Since 1980, Southern has played Nicholls "16" times and NWSt "10" times, "5" of those years we played them both. Name me another SWAC school that have played 2 teams from the same conference in the same year. We're not scare to play anyone, but b/c of the mandate we needed/wanted home games. Just like everyone else the bottom line is what important. Why wasn't *ram scheduling these same SLC teams? Because of demographic our two schools has different philosophy when it comes to scheduling.
It's like pimpz and hoez. Hoez leave home to earn their money, pimpz stay home and have it delivered. :pimp: Btw, you sir ,have a Merry Christmas.:gift:
When are we gonna have that drink? I was at the Pan Christmas party on Friday at the Que house on Foster, didn't see you, didn't really see many others either.:dead:

Some people post here on what THEY personally think. They don't go do their homework. They think that the FCS playoffs are a big recruiting tool and advantage. Well, I asked a few high school coaches about that and a few high school players. None of the them could tell me who won the FCS playoffs last year. The all could tell me about the Bayou Classic.

The coaches said to their knowledge the FCS playoffs are not much of a recruiting factor for their athletes.

So I asked what in thier opinion is the biggest factor. The answer may surprise you. It was, the white school recruit a lot harder. They said they will see a coach from those school every week or every other week, but from the HBCU schools maybe once or twice the whole season. If a white school is interested in an athlete, the coaches say they go after them nonstop. They also work better with the coaches in establishing relationships with the coaches to be more effective at getting the athletes they want. They said that many of their athletes will start out wanting to go to Southern/Grambling but after all the attention the white schools give them they change their mind. Now this is not my opinion, this is what High School coaches are saying. I will ask some more of them to see if I get a different answer.

Yall are afraid of going to the playoffs
You do know you can have the BC AND attempt to go to the playoffs right? All you have to do is move your game a week up. All you do is make excuses about why you cant. You guys are assuming that if you move the game up, you wont make any money on the game. If you move the game up, you will still make the same revenue.

The importance of the game has declined anyway. Since Gram is not competitive, fans are apathetic to the game. Everyone knows who is going to win.

Gram is not afraid of trying to be competitive, but SU is terrified of competition.
