Down Low Brothers

He didn't even want to admit to being bisexual. He said that he wasn't physically attracted to men (whatever) and that he could never be in a relationship with a man. He said he would only do a relationship with a woman. Back then he said he didn't lie to me...its just that I never asked. A lot of men (ok and some women) lie by omission. Now I make sure I ask. He says that now he is upfront with women about it. If he's telling the truth at least I was able to get through to him on that point. Oh and I do ask for the last time a person was tested. On one ocassion I even went and got tested with a mate. Some say it really isn't that serious but YES it really is.
Did he marry a well known female writer?

Well I'll say this. In college I dated a down low brother. Her pursued me and not the other way around. It was the most hurtful thing in the world when I found out. Nobody knew not even his friends. He begged me not to tell anyone and I didn't because I didn't want to have to deal with how they would react to me. To this day I ask ANY man that I plan on having dealings with if he has thought about another man, has he ever been with another man, would he like to be with a man. I don't care if he gets offended. When I asked the guy why he didn't tell me up front he said that he knew I wouldn't have dealt with him if I knew. I saw him a few years later and he apologized over and over again for the way that he presented it to me. He said he finally understood why I was hurt and why I kept saying he didn't give me an option. Am I tired of hearing about the whole down low thing? Yeah I am, but it exists and I acknowledge it.

Shamocha: I am sure you already know this, but, just because you ask them about it, don't expect their answers to always be true. If they were low enough to do the DL, then...well, you get my point.

AA women in poverty and rural areas have been the fastest growing population of women contracting HIV since the late '90's. There have been women who have been the victim of men in denial about their sexuality, but I don't think that's how the majority of our women have contracted the virus.

No it is not out of proportion. It needs to be blown up more. But I still say the problem is that it is not just that men are dogs, women are dogs too. That has not been the case b4.

I just don't understand why another man wants to be with another man...that is not human.

Well, heck ladies, how many of you have run into a DL? That would give us some idea. Are you willing to admit it if you have?

I feel ya, that crap is just nasty. Why would you want to walk around with a schiatty dcik in your pants? NASTY!!!!!!

Blown out of proportion, huh? Let's see...Straight, females having unprotected sex with only their husbands, boyfriends, SO's and are coming up HIV positive in large numbers. In fact, the fastest growing segment of the HIV population...but it's blown out of proportion. It may be in some people's minds but I'm gonna be PROactive before my test is REactive and ask whatever I think I need to ask, require whatever I need/want to require and if it doesn't work for them they can pass me on by.

I see many missed that point. And men--as well as a lot of women nowadays--are taking a trip over to the other "color" side because they want to try something else. The way I see it is, if I'm gonna let you up in every hole on my body, me and you gonna talk about whatever the heyell either one of us thinks needs to be discussed. And if that drives them to ofays....BYE.

I know the down low phenomenom is a problem in our community. But what I'm failing to see is the acknowledgement that women dating other women is also a problem in our community. Where is this going to leave the black family if men are screwing men and women are screwing women? If men are screwing men, then they're on the down low. But when women screw women, we tend to call them freaks and jump through hoops to see it go down. Well I feel that it's all sick and it's all a plague in our community. Let's not just attack the down low phenomenom. Let's attack homosexuality and be real about the situation. Because in my book, one isn't better than the other. It's all sickening to me.

I know the ladies don't want a down low brother...but guys...do you really want some broad that swings both ways herself? I promise you...if a woman enjoys sex with another woman...it's only a matter of time before you're cut off.

I know a lot of gay dudes who look straight. They would break some women hearts when they find out that they fit the image of the "perfect male" with their job and status and find out that they ain't attracted to women. Man it's a lot of gay black dudes out there. :smh:

So I am a guest on a radio show in Atlanta on Friday, where I call in and talk about different political things in the news and issues in the Black Community. So this last Friday the topic got on DL brothers and how they affect how women my age date.

Well since the show I have received some of the worst emails from men complaining about how women just assume this DL issue and that it is only an issue because women can?t find men?

What do you all think? Has the DL issue been blown up to be more then it really is?

I think so.

That it. Right is right and wrong is wrong. We need to stop sugar coating it and looking the other way.

You are probably one of the 1st guys who I've heard say that it is all sickening to you. A lot of guys think its a turn on. I will admit there is a double standard when it comes to bisexual men and women. With men its nasty and with women its "freaky".

I believe in family. As I move towards the next stage in my life...I don't want to have children growing up in a society where seeing two people of the same sex is cool. It's not cool. Call me a biggot if you'd like...but I just think that stuff is wrong.

It is not a turn on to me either. I like one woman. I guess i am different but seeing two women is not a turn on for me at all. I'll take one thick sistah please!!!!!!!!!   I can accept two females but i am not attracted to it. Two dudes is just unacceptable cause it goes against eveythign a man is and suppse to be.

STC IS A ONE WOMAN LOVER !!!!!!!!!

Man, I've been knowing fine women bustin' slob since high school. That was no major. Today, we just have a lot of confused youths experimenting in the wrong way..

I used to date a chick who was bisexual. Man if yall knew some of the conversations we had about sexual interest. I think every man likes a woman to switch hit, but will never marry one. The girl I used to date said it was a phase. She's now married with a kid.

Well...... *clearing throat* *AHEM!!!!!!*

This thread has taken a dramatic turn. :emlaugh:

Woman on woman you say is wrong? :uhoh: :saw:

Thinks back on what I told this one friend-gul wanna' be dude recently. lol

I have run into a couple of them here in DC. What is funny here is DC there is a network of professional black men who engage in this act. One of my co-workers who just came out invited me to a social event and point out about 5 men in the room that he had relations with and one of them I went out with whem I first moved to DC.

Bullshi+!!! A woman having sexual relations with another woman is no more of a phase than a man having sexual relations with another man. Once you cross that line...you're gay. People try to word it, imagine it, fake it, or front it how they want. But you know what it really is. Her being married with a kid is no different than some DL dude being married with a kid. It's all the same. That's the point I'm trying to make.

Give me a woman that's strictly d*ckly anyday. You can have those confused *&#$@s.
