So I am a guest on a radio show in Atlanta on Friday, where I call in and talk about different political things in the news and issues in the Black Community. So this last Friday the topic got on DL brothers and how they affect how women my age date.

Well since the show I have received some of the worst emails from men complaining about how women just assume this DL issue and that it is only an issue because women can?t find men?

What do you all think? Has the DL issue been blown up to be more then it really is?

To answer you question, YEP. You always be startin' trouble somewhere. A woman will always find an excuse to dismiss "Mr. he don't look right". You all will say, "He is on the DL" or "He looks like he lives under a rock". Never satisfied. Sorry all the good men can't fit your picture perfect image. Get over it and move on. :smh:

Blown out of proportion, huh? Let's see...Straight, females having unprotected sex with only their husbands, boyfriends, SO's and are coming up HIV positive in large numbers. In fact, the fastest growing segment of the HIV population...but it's blown out of proportion. It may be in some people's minds but I'm gonna be PROactive before my test is REactive and ask whatever I think I need to ask, require whatever I need/want to require and if it doesn't work for them they can pass me on by.

I feel it is just another issue of negativity that Black Men have to battle. In the 80's we fought the persona of being in gangs, then during the early 90's if we wore a pager or had a cell we were considered drug dealers. Now this DL mess. I personally feel that if you do something with the same sex and get aroused...you are GAY...a Homosexual. Forget the issue of being bisexual...that's just some word to shy away from what a person really is.

Also, to focus more on your thread, this is another concern where men have to, AGAIN, prove ourselves to women (notice I never made the distinction between races). Yet, to me, it's not an issue of race...it's an issue of accepting who you are. If you are Gay and like sleeping with the same sex, say it. Be proud of it...you are who you are. Fugg what someone else says.

This DL sh@t is being blown totally out the water.

The concern is still there as it should be, but alot of yall sisters are pushing straight brothers to Snow White. So dont be mad when you see a brother with an Ofay.

Although I don't agree with the lifestyle, you can not blame this epidemic solely on DL brothas. Women have to also accept some of the responsibility for this too. In case you didn't know, you can get aids from more than just a butt-hugger. With the exception of your spouse, you shouldn't be out have unprotected sex with your boyfriends or SOs, if you do so you run that risk. It is not written that you boyfriend or SO is as committed to you as you are to him, at least with the husband he is SUPPOSED to be as committed too.

I do think that this has been blown out of proportion. Just because a guy does not "look the part", that does not mean that he is out there hugging butts.

Agrees w/ you DSN but a lot of these so called "brothers" aren't PROUD of it and they're NOT saying it either. That is where the issue lies. I don't understand it nor do I care to. It's just.... senseless to me. There's no GREATER feeling or pleasure ANY REAL man would want to experience other than that initial feeling of putting your poundages on top of a woman. :emlaugh: Followed by that initial penetration.... :read: That initial "grunt" of a woman trying to hold your weight and dealing w/ the "adjustment" is music to the ears (to me). :)

Senseless to think that two "brothers" (guys) are tryna' to mimick that. :retard:

Senseless... Totally senseless. I don't blame sistahs for being concerned. All it takes is ONCE w/ the wrong dudette and it's on in your world. Sickening. :(

Bruh...I love it when you lick a woman's clit...that initial frozen left leg....and she goes....uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu....

:emlaugh: rotflol!

Seems like my family got the jump on that phenomena back in the 80s to current date. :emlaugh: We had a family get together a few weekends ago and I swear it looked like the united nations in there. :emlaugh:

Black man=> white lady, mexican lady, puerto rican lady, german ladies lol
Black woman=> white men, mexican men, swedish men

lol There'll be several shades of Jeffersons for genres to come. :emlaugh:

Well I'll say this. In college I dated a down low brother. Her pursued me and not the other way around. It was the most hurtful thing in the world when I found out. Nobody knew not even his friends. He begged me not to tell anyone and I didn't because I didn't want to have to deal with how they would react to me. To this day I ask ANY man that I plan on having dealings with if he has thought about another man, has he ever been with another man, would he like to be with a man. I don't care if he gets offended. When I asked the guy why he didn't tell me up front he said that he knew I wouldn't have dealt with him if I knew. I saw him a few years later and he apologized over and over again for the way that he presented it to me. He said he finally understood why I was hurt and why I kept saying he didn't give me an option. Am I tired of hearing about the whole down low thing? Yeah I am, but it exists and I acknowledge it.

Hold on. Do not put that on brothers straight or otherwise. Well to this extent it is on straight brothers...More women are getting HIV because more women are screwing everything that gets hard. Remember the age group that is growing includes upper teens and lower 20's. These young people are screwing like no tomorrow.
The red cross collect blood from a high school (I will not call the name, but it is West of Memphis in Arkansas), so many samples were HIV positive that the entire donation was just canned.
HIV among men and women is due to life styles to include DL, but definitely not solely.

I think the DL thing is sickening. Is it blown up? Let's see. Has AIDS been blown out of proportion ?? UHH NOOOOOOO. I don't blame shamocha at all. If i was single i would be askign for last time doctors' visit from females. In these times you never who is doin what to who. I jsut don't understand the DL thing.

I LOVE BLACK SISTAHS (THICK AND SEXY )

I dont think that its being blown out of proportion. I think there is an awareness being created. The more its talked about the more people know. Hell do yall think the subject of AIDS & HIV is being blown out of proportion?

Whether men want to admit it, or not, it is a big issue, in the black community. True, Black Women are getting HIV/AIDS at an alarming rate, but not just from DL brothers...they are getting it, from having unprotected sex...period. Now, I do agree that the terminology "DL" is becoming overkill.

He didn't even want to admit to being bisexual. He said that he wasn't physically attracted to men (whatever) and that he could never be in a relationship with a man. He said he would only do a relationship with a woman. Back then he said he didn't lie to me...its just that I never asked. A lot of men (ok and some women) lie by omission. Now I make sure I ask. He says that now he is upfront with women about it. If he's telling the truth at least I was able to get through to him on that point. Oh and I do ask for the last time a person was tested. On one ocassion I even went and got tested with a mate. Some say it really isn't that serious but YES it really is.

DSN, Pan, STOP!! Ya'll gon make me hurt some woman tonight!!!

No it is not out of proportion. It needs to be blown up more. But I still say the problem is that it is not just that men are dogs, women are dogs too. That has not been the case b4.

Im not quite sure what the reasoning is.......However, in the Black Community Sexual Acceptance is not the easiest thing to deal with........Im married and love the ***** too much.......Hopefully These nuggas could one day just be honest with themselves..........
By the way, Once again I work with HIV/AIDS clients........and so far this DL Thing is not even an issue........Its has been mainly IV drug users.....and have been the newest referrals...............
