Doug Williams is afraid of competition

I don't care for us playing VUL either and I'll probably stay in the tailgate area the whole time (except for halftime) but the fact of the matter is that if Doug had scheduled the freaking New York Giants, some Gramblinite would have still had something to say. So it really doesn't matter.

Singing "WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS, WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS....OF THE SWAAAAAC"!!!!! (while doing "the Dougie").
:clap::clap::clap::weee::weee::weee::swink:

Not true... I haven't read anyone being critical of scheduling TCU!

Well if the Bayou Classic wasn't such a national spectacle, I would suspend football in 2012 for Alcorn, Ms. Valley and Grambling so Southern University can have three additional non conference games. We will be flexing our muscles in 2012 and these 3 programs have issues right now.

JRock here are comments you made last year about this time:

:emlaugh:

I admit that SU's talent level in probably on par with VUL, but we have a contract so might as well play them. Do they have a coach yet?

I'm not taking up for Doug (or whoever creates the conference schedules), but it can be difficult to find teams in late Oct or early Nov to play non-conference games.......especially since Doug doesn't want to play Southland teams. For a long time, Nicholls and SU played in November.

The season seems to be a wash. All schools should be planning ahead, looking for teams in 2013-2015 since we have this mandate. Grambling use to play Langston, why not try to schedule them? Or KY State.

Where have you been? You know a couple Gramblinites been tripping about Doug scheduling TCU. "Why we playing TCU?" "All we care about is money, what about our image?". "This will hurt recruiting in the DFW area".

ALL THAT YAKKETY-YAK. ^^^^^^ Like I said, if Doug had scheduled the freaking New York Giants, some Gramblinites would still have something to say. So it really doesn't matter.. Neither do they.

I done told you that you make too much sense. STOP IT! :smash:

If Grambling plays a lot of "classic" games and only 3 home games, some folks complain they don't play at home enough.
If Grambling plays Northwestern, McNeese, etc. at home, some folks complain those are not "attractive" teams.
If Grambling plays FBS teams, folks complain gSU won't be competitive and it's only a money game.(nearly every Southland conf. team plays 1 FBS team each yr for the past 3 yrs. Why do you think TX A&M dropped McNeese???)

If Grambling plays Concordia, folks complain that's too easy of a win!!!

Nearly everyone can insert their school's name in the place of Grambling, (J-State, SU, PV) there will always be folks complaining about something......like water is too wet...

Well TP, I will have to agree with you their...the few TCU people I talk to on a daily have only expressed excitement b/c "we just wanna see y'all,band"....I won't even post what they say the point spread will be....

If the wild white horse (drugs) continues to rear its head @ tcu over the next few, Gram may not be too far off in terms of competitivity. :read: If their power-brokers ($$$$ folk) want pattersons head, maybe a change in staff over the next few could pay dividends for Gram. All of this is iffy but it sure is funny watching the tcu media spin @ damage control attempts.

dont agree because the TCU game was annouced last summer, in 8 months we can schedule a better team. Hell why was eddie robinson able to schedule fcs and dII black schools and these cats can schedule anyone in all we can come up with is VUL and Concorida. Sorry but at one point, one day, one moment, we have to set a standard. The entire SWAC needs to set Standards. If we bend over for them then we need to make DII schools bend over for us. Not DIII, not NAIA, and certianly not club schools. You love your school but you cant except any and everything.
So for homecoming we going to have 50k sitting around campus eating and drinking. No one will enter the game, so in all what does Grambling gain? What we gone pay VUL from the tailgating, parking and RV fees?

Im still tryna figure out why some in the hbcu football world think that the fcs hbcu's are better than D2 football teams. We all know their is a long list of D2 schools that can kick the crap out of swac schools.

Midwestern State
Pitt State
NW Missouri State
Abilene Christian
Central Missouri
TAMU Kingsville
Valdosta State
North Alabama
Grand Valley State
West Texas A&M
Wayne State
Minn. Duluth

But it would be beneath a SWAC school to travel to any of those places.

Why did you skip Delta State?

BH respects posters who do not just go with what is in front of them ("going with the flow") but instead analyze to see if the institution itself did every right first before criticizing.

Most of the time, the main ones causing the problems of our SWAC Institutions are those within the Institution itself.

BTW, so much drama lately. It must be Spring-Time In the SWAC. :D

I agree, Grambling has short changed their fans and given the SWAC another black eye. I believe the SWAC is going blind. Initially, I thought this was VA Tech and wasn't dismayed. Then as the thread progressed i realized this was a Garbage game and feel like some type of penalty or fine need to be levied. It is my belief that the scheduling of the VUL game is a little worse than the panty hose commercial Grambling's band did a few years back. Come on people!!! Either you have standards or you don't!!! This tailgating with alums not going in the stadium is really getting old in North Louisiana.

94, every school in the conference has the same amount of time to schedule games. It has yet to be proven that it is more "difficult" to schedule non-conference games in late into the season. It may be the preference of a coach or AD not to play a non-conference game late into the season, but that is an entirely different point. I pointed to others in the HOG that Northwestern and SLU have open dates for Oct. 20th. But in Doug's mind, because they wouldn't play us then, he isn't going to play them today.

Yeah that is true... I'm proud of him for scheduling TCU and hopefully we will continue to have at least one FBS high level opponent on our schedule. But to turn around and play a VUL takes the luster off.

We're better than that...Doug is better than that! His legacy is secure at Grambling, he don't need these cupcakes...bring in some top notch competition even if it means having a home and home versus the MEAC, Southland, OVC, Southern Conference whomever. I know we have attendance issues...but playing VUL's and those type ain't gonna bring in new fans, students, or recruits. I'm disappointed... Doug can take us back to the era when we played anybody, but to then turn around and schedule the likes of VUL or any club team isn't a good look. I was gonna say that has nothing to do with Doug, but it does....He's a better coach and bigger man than that. He needs to take us to the next level for as long as he's here. This type scheduling isn't gonna get it done.

Seems like a few of these Gramling folks need that midnight phone call, starting with that MB.

No midnight calls! Look Doug is my coach and a true Grambling legend. I just disagree with his scheduling philosophy and especially when it comes to scheduling in state schools.
We recruited well and had a very good signing class...But take a look at Northwestern's signing class, in particular the Louisiana kids signed by them. With all due respect to my Grambling alums from
the other states, and the wonderful kids from else where that signed with us I say this... We're a Louisiana based school and we shouldn't be losing talented kids (THAT WE RECRUITED) to Northwestern.

Play Em, Beat Em, and We Get Em... both on the field and classroom students too. We should play in-state schools, PERIOD!

The Hammond Area (where Southeastern in located) is diehard Grambling country...we shouldn't be losing kids like Rogers (the LB) to Southeastern.

We need to play them and beat them so we can have a better shot at signing them!

Doug is killing me with that 1950's mentality of not playing them, because they had us pickin cotton stuff. Man, play them and beat their asses. Period. Beat them for the 400 years of suffering, beat them for Rosa Parks, beat them for Martin Luther King. Just beat them.

While most of you all are confused on schedules, coaches and fans, all we did at AAMU is go out and scheduled Auburn. But in order to do this; you ask for help from other schools to change a date so you can play your school of choice. Now that we are playing Auburn, the University of Alabama has shown some interest in playing AAMU. I am sure LSU would play SU or GSU if someone would be bold enough to make the request. 70% of the SWAC schools work together in helping each other, but the other 30% will not change anything to help another SWAC school.

You cannot wait until the last minute, but ADs can get the process started by working with the SWAC Office and the school you want to play.

THANK YOU!!!!

This is the EXACT MENTALITY I'm trying to get some of these Alcornites in the War Party Room to see. This is why I was ranting about us signing so few Mississippi Kids on signing day.
