There has been no official news from GSU yet, but I just got word that Grambling will be playing Virginia University of Lynchburg for homecoming in 2012. What a freakin joke!

It is 957 miles from Lynchburg, VA to Grambling, LA and the best we could could do was VUL?...a school that just brought back football last year for the first time in 57 years?

This is proof that he is afraid of quality competition. Nobody will be surprised about us losing to TCU and they sure as hell wont be surprised about us beating VUL. He has nothing to lose or gain playing against either of these opponents.

What a joke!

Not saying you're wrong but who would you expect to get this late in the game? Most SWAC teams have announced their sched's for next season. And to pick up a FCS opponent this late is nearly unlikely. Besides, if you did, most schools want a guaranteed return and that's hard for any SWAC team to do when we have the 9 game mandate.

Its a HBCU so the fan base will be jumping for joy.

I doubt that. The school went years without an accreditation and its' alumni base is terribly low. I lived in Lynchurg for approximately 5 years from 2000 to 2004 and heard very little from the school. It would be good advertising support for Virginia University in Lynchburg (Virginia Seminary), but very little fan support for Grambling.

I'm not even saying it had to be a FCS opponent, but you can't convince me that VUL was the only option we had. And as for the late date part, we had just as much time as everyone else to work on the schedule. Thank goodness we finally got an AD in place.

But it is a HBCU no one has heard of. It aint Va. State, Virginia Union, Hampton, or Norfolk State. Looks like is a real small Va school like when SU played Allen or whatever school we played in the early 2000s.

Louisiana College approximately 80 miles south of Grambling probably woould have played them. LC would have been way more competitive than VUL.

It was a fuggin hookup. Luther Palmer (former GSU asst. coach) is the DC for VUL.

Remember, Doug don't believe in playing white schools from within the state because they wouldn't play us back then. So LC isn't an option.

I guess he does run from competition. LC has Evangel Christian former coach as their coach.

:emlaugh: :bawling: :emlaugh:

Oh, I'm not lol'ing @ Gram... I'm LOL'ing WITH Gram. lol All this... it's so damned remedial to me. lol BTW, if you HAPPEN to find PV's OFFICIAL schedule release for 2012, please, let the rest of us know. :emlaugh: lol F'ing ridiculous. :smh:

UofA would never travel to a D1-AA school to play them. This is Grambling's homecoming. Liberty University in Lynchburg definitely would have been a better selection.

Historically, GSU's homecoming games have been either the last Saturday in October or the first Saturday in November. We have J-State scheduled the first Saturday in November. But this year homecoming is set for October 20th.

Don't let GR see that. LOL.

I didn't know that VUL was an HBCU until last fall. I think they used to be members of the CIAA.

Back to the topic, this is why our ADs should create their OOC schedules several years in advance.

This is just a trickle down effect. SInce the 1-As have an extra game to play 1-AA teams, we don't have many options.

But we can't be on the fence with this issue. We can't get excited over playing 1-A teams and then beyotch about playing D3 and NAIA teams. It's the SAME difference.

Yep, the only difference is 1 team is paying us to fukc while the other is getting paid to get fukced.

Until The SWAC get away from the 9game mandate. This will happen, not many options for scheduling.

Naw, sorry...this is NOT the same thing. VUL isn't D2, D3, or NAIA...it is a club team. Jesus, at some point we have to have some kind of MINIMUM standards for our programs. The SWAC already has the perception of being piss poor among FCS conferences, this doesn't help our case one iota.

While the 9 game conference mandate is an issue, this particular case has nothing to do with the mandate. No other school in the conference is playing a club team.

It's the exact same thing. GaTech announced our schedule today and we play................. PRESBYTERIAN... smh How do you think Florida State feels? They have to play Savannah State. VUL might beat Savannah State.

This has nothing to do with 1-A's playing Grambling. A 1-A would never travel to Grambling for a game. This is about playing a far less competitive school.
