I told ya'll a few years ago that Broadway was not going to be able to recruit at Grambling. Also, Grambling's coaches are normally high profile and recruit with both THEIR name and the Grambling name. That is why GSU should have hired that former NFL player who practically begged them for the job.

Broadway's style is more fitting for Southern from his style of coaching to his persona. Broadway was never a good fit for Grambling in my opinion.

BUT, I don't see Broadway ever losing at Grambling. He has enough good football sense to know how to run a program. He is gonna have to be more of an Xs and Os coach than any of the previous Grambling HCs.

Our juniors are the kids signed in B'ways first year... that includes Warren, Walker, Anthony, Kiara Thompson, Cliff Exama (sophomore) who leads us in rushing, tackles, receptions, etc. One emerging star (IMO) is Rodale Pippen a redshirt freshman wr/slot guy.

Gram and SWAC fans are offensive minded and look for eyepopping offensive stats. Not gonna see that under B'way as he's a run oriented defensive minded coach. That's not to say he doesn't want to see points on the Board, but the chunk it all around the field offenses that our fans prefer and obviously long for are no longer in vogue with this staff.

I agree but that doesn't mean that Coaches shouldn't bust their buts to recruit, and its apparent that he isn't... This is not a knock on PV but a knock on the coaching staff of GSU... We have only had one LA all state player since he has been there and that's the kid from Rayville, LA, and please correct me if I’m wrong. But out side of that all he has been getting is sub par players. It’s all about quality not quantity because his first recruiting class was huge, but none of the players have really panned out. So one of two things is happening, he isn’t trying to get the best players or he doesn’t know how to evaluate talent or maybe a combination of the two…

this is the 2009 recruiting class, calling it 'ok' is being generous...

http://www.neworleans.com/sports/lo...-football-signing-class-now-stands-at-20.html

I will see if I can find the two previous classes just to help support my point so you all don't think I'm all emotional and bent out of shape because of the loss...

You're wrong. Just from scanning that list quickly I saw 2 La All-State players and neither was was Rayville... and I only looked at about 10 of the 20 on that list.

TGee JSU,Alcorn and Valley are rated as better schools academically than Grambling. Try again. Gram is essentially located in a bad location with a dwindling student body. But you took that as hate so you came back with mindless dribble...SMH

Facts please... Don't just make a statement with no fact to support your statement... Practice what your preach. Damn you are thick headed this is my second time telling you this.

Spears was head coach during that year I was referring to. It was his last year as a matter of fact. That team was full of talent and went 3-8. The team was missing "something" too. That was quite clear after the way they methodically dismantled JState...So if it was coaching as you say, then Spears must not have been all that you are trying to make him out to be, right?

Not so but I see your point. You have to understand that even though he had a loosing season he was still doing everything in his power to bounce back the next year. Hell most of the players that are there now are because of Spears; he left us loaded... And he still did what was most important to most of us beat the hell out of PV and SU and win the SWAC championship. So in his loosing season Spears was 1 - 3. It looks like Broadway is going to be 0 - 3. We fired spears for 1-3 should we fire Broadway for 0-3? But just to get back on track it’s not a comparison between coaching ability between the two. The facts that support my argument are their coaching records….

You think Gram's '09 recruiting class was not "ok?" All those honors? Ok, realistically speaking, you're wanting to go head to head w/ the top dog in-state first (LSU), right? That's who has pick of the litter, followed by other remoters @ the FBS level (ut-austin, aTm, miss st, usm, et al localers, then the Ohio Sts, Michigans, et numerous al). That "name" and "branding" of "Grambling" isn't carrying clout these days. Today's kids are so media driven until it almost hurts. They want the camera, they want the extra "perks" that come w/ playing for FBSdom, and they want the 60K+ seat stadium to play in on Saturday's as well (bowl games, etc). -F

I'm not advocating that FCS coaches not go head-to-head w/ FBSers because in my mind, the least one should do is try. But this issue is actually even much bigger than Grambling. It affects ALL of FCS. -C : for stating the obvious but adding a little value

I just graded your work and I don't think your parents are going to be happy about this grade. -D. Doug and Spears got all state players all the time but that's something that PV doesn't really have much experience in so I don't expect you to understand. But just words of advice, stick to the topics that you know about or that you can add value to. No pun intended, seriously.

Spears was probably my favorite SWAC coach since AAMU been in the SWAC... Watching Season of the Tiger made me respect Spears.... I liked the way he tried to beat the hell out of EVERY team he played.. he didnt care what the score was, he wanted to beat the hell out of you. If I was a coach, I would be a spitting image of Spears. He would coach like he was playing a video game.... going for 2 point conversions up by 40. I like ol Spears... If Jones was to leave, I would want ol Spears here.

Preach brother preach...

Panth...don't want to take away from your win because you guys earned it. However, don't you think it was bound to happen sooner or later. Also are you saying that having the past 3 weeks to game plan didn't help your cause?
Do you not think your team being mentally and physically rested also didn't help your chances? Good win and all...but it doesn't mean that all of a sudden Grambling doesn't have good players.

In a sense it's flattering that folks don't seem to expect Gram to lose a conference game on occassion.

I never expect us to loose to them, that is intolerable.... Hell I would trade 10 Bayou Classic and 3 SWAC Championship Wins for this 1 Loss... I see how Alab felt loosing to ULM...

I wanna' watch the game again before I speak on it. I wanna' make sure I saw what I saw going on @ the point of attack (OL/DL).

I'm not taking anything away from Grambling because y'all recruit super-recruits. But the question begs are they continuing to work when they get there to get better? :read: +A

I'll answer back 2morrow. (later today lol)

Now that's what I'm talking about way to come back and redeem yourself. For once you have added something worthwhile to the conversation. I'm so proud of you. But to elaborate on your point about them working, if they aren't working then that is a coaching problem. Remember under this guy's administration he allowed the starting QB flunk off the team.

You never got the real reason that Spears was fired. It wasn't totally the actionis of the football team on the field of play. You have to remember the things that he did away from the field, remember the gatorade cup thing? What about the discrepancy in him geting his Masters from Northen Arizona?Don't forget the deal when he wanted Alcorn to forfeit a game when they wanted to reschedule the game because of the hurricane.
What about the NCAA investigation into the program.

I understand your passion. Some may sit up and make every excuse in the world why we lost to PV...but a lost to PV is just unacceptable. I don't care how many scholarships they have now. I understand where you're coming from. But Spears is in the past. We don't need to regress, we need to progress. I think spending time on whether or not letting Spears go is time that is wasted. This staff needs to take a long hard look at themselves as well as the team. The season isn't over yet....we can still turn it around. But I do feel where you're coming from about losing to PV.

Did Gram out smart themselves by firing Spears? I say yes. Even in the loosing season he still put 53 on PV. Broadway has done something that even Eddie Robinson couldn’t do or didn’t do in his wonder years and that’s lose to PV. I have never been so embarrassed in all my life. But it all makes sense; this is nothing more than the accumulation of poor recruiting, poor coaching, arrogance, ignorance and lack of respect for the legacy of GRAMBLING STATE UNIVERSITY. Have we become JSU, with the reincarnation of James Bell? GOD bless GSU and all the alumni that wanted Spears gone, this is one example of us out smarting ourselves. Now let the debate begin… Give me a sec before y’all start commenting, I’m going to the liquor store.

Oh and before you give me the excuse that PV has gotten better my questions is how? How in the world can the ICON of the SWAC lose a player to PV? Refer to the previous paragraph sentence six for an answer. I’m off to the liquor store…

My last comment/question: When a non-scholarship PV beat us in 1986, did that mean it was time to get rid of Coach Robinson and his staff? Of course not... Now that PV has been on full scholarships for about 5 seasons or so, they have shown that they are capable of beating everyone in the conference. As much as I would love to see Grambling go undefeated each season, I realize that it's not likely to happen.

Personally, I think some of us are giving Grambling too much blame and PV too little credit.

Are you serious? Like I said before I'm not knocking PV, I'm knocking the coaching staff at Gram for being unaware of the history and for coming there unprepared and not ready to play. That is inexcusable and that is a direct reflection on the head coach. Two things that are undisputable are:

1) He doesn't recruit the way he should

2) His game plans are basic and elementary

And to be successful with #1, you have to have an innovative and elaborate plan, which clearly he does not.

And to be successful with #2, you have to have some studs on both sides of the ball. But you can't do that if you don't recruit.

And what is this that I hear about the players not singing the school song; this coach has no pride or respect for our institution. So not only do you get beat but to add insult to injury this guy doesn’t respect the legacy of the institution, that's tradition folks. PV sung theirs I was standing right there listening. Sad so so sad….

1) He doesn't recruit the way he should

This is an opinion...it does no good to argue against another man's opinion. I don't see a problem with the recruits he signed in 2008 and 2009. The bulk of the 2007 guys he mostly signed off on offering scholarships --they were recruited by holdovers Andre Robinson and Sammie White. Are their specific recruits from the 2008 class that you are displeased with? Since most of them are sophomores and/or redshirt freshmen, it's kinda early to evaluate them. Van Phillips (soph) started as a true freshman wr, Cliff Exama (soph) started as a true freshman MLB, Bruna Foster (soph) starts at Rover, Quint Roberts (soph) started as a true freshman OT...all were B'way recruits. The guys who have transferred in during his tenure and start: Greg Dillon (qb), Jomarcus Savage (DT), Bakari Maxwell (WR), Marcus Jemison (OLB)...Key reserves signed or transferred in under B'way: KR Kenneth Baptiste, Nickel Back Dominic Bell, Reserve DE's Preston Noma #97, and #92 Asti Burdis, LB Nathaniel Leonard.

2) His game plans are basic and elementary

He has won with a basic and elementary game plan... the key to any offense and defense is execution and being fundamentally sound. The fans in our league are enamored with supposedly high risk/high reward offenses and blitzing defenses, I guess it appeals to the need for "entertainment". To each his own... I like entertaining games as well, but my focus is on execution and fundamental play. Coach Robinson ran a very basic Wing T with trap blocks and the deep pass. Outside of a need to throw down field more, the problem with this offense is mostly fan's "need" to be entertained.

Defensively... the game plan is simple but if executed works well. Stop the run to make teams one dimensional. Once that's done... Yoshida believes in bringing pressure with the front four and dropping 7 guys into coverage. That worked well last year because we had two DT's that stopped the run...this year, we had to convert two former DE's to DT's. Perhaps B'way should have gone with some Juco guys to fill the void, until the guys he recruited as DLinemen became ready. That's the only thing I question, but perhaps he didn't see anyone in the Juco ranks or transfers that met his criteria...no need signing folk just to sign them.

Sad so so sad….

I don't know about the not singing the school song...unfortunately I rode with two non-GSU alums and they decided to leave once PV picked up the first down (I'll know next time to go in my own vehicle). I can't criticize him for that since I don't know if it happened or not.

Note: I forgot to add the kickers he signed... Ari Johnson and Fabian Carter (punter)

FG SEQUENCE Grambling State Opponents
South Carolina St. 37,(47)
Northwestern State 49,(30) 28,38,(27)
Jackson State (47) (23)
Oklahoma State (38),(25) 47
Prairie View A&M (28),(22)

Johnson missed his first kick against SC State but came back with a 47 yarder later in the game.. his only other miss was
a 49 yarder vs Northwestern. It was accurate but fell about a foot short.

Oh and as stated the Freshman class (2009) were redshirted with the exception (to my knowledge) of only Ari Johnson the kicker.

Hot off the press. It's hard to keep up w/ all these kids in this area. :(

(RB) At 6' 1", 215 lbs, ******* is one of the top college prospects in Texas.

Get'em motivated dareightone. :) I wonder how receptive he or his parents would be listening to "legacy" and "history" lol. I don't know his parents but I know OF his parents (his dad) and I'm fairly certain that kid and his dad saw what they saw last Saturday night in the cotton bowl. :)

Here's another...
(DE/WR/TE) At 6' 5.5" lol, 246 lbs, ******* is one of the top college prospects in North Carolina, formerly of Columbus, Ohio.

I know his parents quite well. :emlaugh: Father is a SWAC grad and his mom is a Youngston St grad. Go get'em and watch how receptive they are to "legacy" and "history." Since I know them, I feel @ liberty to answer for them. Your school's history/legacy doesn't mean anything to them. :| At all. :| Ever. :| (real talk)

I think he's gone P... I would answer for him, but maybe he'll be back. Prolly checking on whether or not B'way sang or not. I can't say because I had to leave also... I love me some GSU and normally I sang, but when your ride says "Let's go..."

I'm checking on whether the rumor that B'way goes to North Carolina to stock up on toothpaste and stuff is true or not.

Dude this kind of thinking is the reason Florida State is losing to USF. History and Tradition does not win games. Players and coaches do. PV has a decent coach, better campus location(Houston) and a good recruiter.

Gram is not the GRAm you guys think it is. Bad location(like Valley and Alcorn),living off the past, no fan base, very few home games...etc..etc..

PV is the new it team. Broadway has to prove he can recruit. He lucked up last season but that run for your life chuck the ball was not really an offense it was a happen stance. He was sticking with sorry Tillman until Dillion showed out. Now they trying to make him a pocket passer. Oh yeah you have sub par receivers and a suspect defensive backfield.
lol!! Didn't we beat yawl? How many times have yawl beat us in the past 10 years? Comparing us to Valley and Alcorn? What team has had more SWAC titles in the past 10 years and include our hoe, jackson.... So if we are in a bad location, living off the past, no fan base, very few home games in our own stadium, and sorry for losing to a pv team that is better than jackson then what is jacksons excuse? PV is good, but we are still GRAMBLING!!!! YAwl still running from PV... WE OWN THE SWAC!!!!

If a kid has to make a decision on whether on not to go to Gram or PV that's not a kid I want to recruit anyway because he is a freaking village idiot. Hell he would probably put his helmet on backwards. Gram has put more kids in the NFL, got more combine invites for players and set more SWAC records, than PV has ever. When was the last time PV put a player in the NFL or Canadian league hell the arena league? So if a recruit can't see that legacy and tradition have something to do with getting to the NFL then let his dumb arse go to any other school besides GRAM. You have to be as dumb as Cooter Brown to believe that legacy and tradition don’t mean anything. Ask any recruit that has gone to a major D1 program if the coaches shows them a list of players that they have put in the NFL or even more so has some of the former players contact them (which may be a NCAA violation but it happens). P, my point is that if you had the legacy and tradition you would use it to your advantage but since you don’t you argue against its importance. Are you lawyer? Nope because PV doesn’t have a law program… J/k…

We see who the village idiot is........ :goodbad:

There is more to a school for kids to choose than just football. You try to talk legacy but the only thing your boy spears lived for is geting kids to piss in a gatorade cup for a illegal drug test.

Not really, if he is being recruited to play football shouldn't the football program be important... And I understand the hostility you have for Spears, if someone beat my arse like that I would pray for his demise also... Spears beat yawls’ arses like y'all owed him money... LOL... Spears beat yawls’ arses like y'all cussed his mama out... Spears beat yawls’ arse so bad till y'all changed yawls’ name from PV to Toby... LOL... Spears whipped that arse like y'all was cake mix and eat hadn't eaten in 2 weeks. LOL...

And just for the record, that was never proven. He was never convicted of making a single major ncaa violation and what you stated would constitutes a major violation. So once again, state facts. And on a side note try to refrain from saying anything on the net that you would be willing to say to someone’s face, have some class.

LoL U still pretty salty about the loss huh? lol U only have 359 more days to relive it before gametime 2010. :emlaugh:

U'd better let that anger go man or you're gonna' stop your heart from beating. lol :argue2:
