Dawson Odums fires 3 defensive assistants, Chad Germany resigns

Southern coach Dawson Odums is overhauling his coaching staff.


Odums, who doubles as defensive coordinator, fired three assistants Wednesday — defensive line coach Myron Jackson, linebackers coach Lorick Atkinson and cornerbacks coach Chris Scott.

Atkinson confirmed the three firings and co-offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach/recruiting coordinator Chad Germany said he resigned to pursue other opportunities.

The defensive changes set the stage for Odums to hire a defensive coordinator and allow himself to focus on being head coach.

Exactly. Its going on right now. The lord heard ouR cry about him hiring one and although Coach Germany can recruit, our O should have been busting the scoreboard truthfully
 



I wouldn't be surprised if he ended up in Montgomery. He comes from the same JUCO as our QB Ellis Richardson.

I am skeptical of coaches who choose to be the offensive/defensive coordinator as well as head coach. Do yall SU folks feel he was pressured by the administration to do so?

Worm can hear the whispers that turn into loud comments around town. LOL. He has 2 seasons left on his contract. He knows with the players he has on the yard the next 2 seasons he will be expected to do better than this season. So no excuses. I think he realized after many comments that it was time to do something. Even the Advocate mentioned something during the year about him not hiring a DC or being the DC. So the Administration wasn't the ones with the loud comments. He has been hearing the unrest about it.

I mean it was one bad year. I knew it would be tough to go back 3 straight years but guess what! Most of the team return, we will be back. Defense finally having a DC. Our prayers have been answered. Practice facility should be done by February. Attract recruits
