Categories: Elections

Hundreds of Alabama A&M University students spilled into Meridian Street near the campus as they celebrated Barack Obama's election as the nation's first black president.

Alabama A&M campus police, state troopers and Huntsville police came in at about 10:45 p.m. to move the crowd out of the street.

Police said they moved the crowd out of the street for safety reasons and no arrests have been made.

I'm so honored to be alive at this appointed time & know that it's NO ACCIDENT that I'm here! Congratulations Mr. Obama!

Quote from my mom.."She said she never thought she would live to see a black president in her time". (My mom will be 89 on Friday) God is good.

My friend wrote this to me in a text message

"It's not the end of America's racial journey, but it shows real progress. I'm proud of America"

Congrats to the whole Obama family and to US

we did a wonderful job guys. Great job guys!

I'm so proud

OMG... the celebration on campus was sooooooooooo WILD!
thousands of students
fireworks
music
the parade
the atmosphere was ELECTRIC!

campus police had to stop cars from driving into campus b/c it was one big huge block party/trafficjam/parade/fire work show....
I LOVED EVERY SECOND OF IT!

Tonight was beyond WILD! i'm still pumped up and excited!

OBAMA is my president! :jump:

This one is for you mom.

I was a witness to one of the most exciting elections in my time. I only wish my mom could've seen it. From all of the struggles she had growing up to all of the racism she experienced as an adult.

Mom this night is for you.
