It was when they were on the sidelines. It caught my eye because of the red. At first I thought it was an injured player who was not suited up for the game. Really I didn't think much of it until this thread. I just thought it was odd.

To me it is what it is. I don't care one way or another.

Ummmm your current AD is a Valley Alum that continued to make JSU feel stupid during his tenure as a student athlete at MVSU. So please and her daughter is a student there. So why not.

I gave out all the jerseys myself. Everyone had their name on them. Your eyes have deceived you
 



To be honest, I'm for any idea Coach Prime introduces to the SWAC. All of his suggestions so far have been on the money and this name situation is no different. Our athletes deserve to have one hell of a college sports experience like these other conferences so upgrade EVERYTHING including the small things. The only question us fans should be asking is how much will it cost and how can we help.

Other question: who can we partner with to pay for this and raise our school(s) profile?
 
There are schools in the SWAC who has always chosen the traditional way of life and believes that everything is all about 1 team/1 name instead of the individual. There are others who don’t get names or mascot names on the back of jerseys for budget purposes or just taking the cheap route purposes.

At the end of the day, HBCU kids are not getting recruited, and it’s time to make sure that people turning in to the game knows who just made a play. I hate talking SWAC football when folks have to say, “man, that number 18 y’all had was nice.” So what if you find out what his name was, the fact of the matter is there is a difference when ”JONES” is out the balling with his name on his jersey and you see it repeatedly.

I agree with Deion Sanders, and I am happy that he is using his platform to open his mouth about it. Seeing some of my G-Men on the field yesterday with TIGERS on their back while other were blanked was trifling. To all of those, “I don’t care what we look like as long as we win” folks out, please add steak to your menu instead of spam! Your business might make more money and get more attention.

Very true. But how about looking at the amount of games that were carried by television networks before his arrival. When you do that, take out the amount of games that featured ICON Grambling and compare that to everyone else in the conference. I am sure you will be disappointed in the previous National Television Appearance numbers.

I think this is a unique set of circumstances where we're in a period where traditionally white-owned networks, companies and entities prioritized highlighting all-think Black culture amid the George Floyd murder fallout. And HBCUs, the brand, has benefited from that with the NBA, NFL, ESPN among others intentionally re-introducing Black colleges to the public through various campaigns.

As far as the TV component goes, it helped that HBCU football, particularly the SWAC, was the only game in town on during the spring. There were no competing forces in the NFL or major college football to draw that attention away from Black college football games.

It will be interesting to see how whether there will be a windfall for HBCUs athletics as a collective as a result.

Just wait a few more weeks, and this will be revealed. Remember, it's almost time for corporations to start offsetting their tax liabilities for the year, so they will start sponsoring scholarships, donations, give-a-ways, and all types of stuff over the next few months.

We have to start thinking about being different and excelling in everything we do. Simple as that. Don't care who came up with the idea, or where it came from---if it makes sense, let's do it and do it to the best of our ability.
