Clarion-Ledger halts beat coverage of JSU sports

You all are making interesting points. Here in Richmond, VA, Virginia Union sports get very little coverage, unless they play Virginia State, or if something bad happens. It was homecoming and nothing was in the paper about the parade and they are having a good year being in first place in the CIAA East. But if VCU has anything, it is in the paper and they make sure everything gets covered.

I would love to know what is going on as well?

you in richmond? Bruh I will message you...

The SEC beat writers also complain about access, too. However, those newspapers can't pull a stunt like not covering Bama, Georgia or Arkansas because those fan bases and readers would revolt. Plus, a lot of media outlets -- local, state, national and web -- cover those schools. So, there is tremendous competition.

Yep...Jimbo makes certain players unavailable to the media frequently at FSU. Jimbo gave the same reason JSU gave for why Everrett Golson hasn't spoken to the media this season. FAMU has done something similar, except the head coach is always available and the media must seek permission through him or the Athletic Department to speak with players and assistant coaches, which hasn't been a problem thus far...and media coverage for FAMU Athletics isn't terrible

Shutting the media out completely is silly on JSU's part, however. If you want to make players unavailable, fine, but make somebody available

They were not shut out completely. They have a Monday press conference set up for the Media. Did he even travel to the A&M game? They just being Petty..

Morales' contention is that he can't speak to anyone during the week except for McCall. I saw that a player was quoted in the Bama A&M gamer but nothing from players or assistants leading up the game. If Jackson allowed assistants and players to talk, then there was some expection that would continue.

Would you assign your employees somewhere they can't get work done?
They can stop all coverage if they want to. They're just fishing for bad stories and JSU just closed ranks for a second.. We loosing what is there to report. What does he want angry upset kids venting all in the paper....Jackson is no longer the coach so give it time. They can pull there coverage as it has been suspect since Ros came on board and being in the capital city and still get pushed to the back page. Forget them. Newspapers are dying anyway..Sorry Kendrick but they are..

We need a new administration all together....before we need a new AD or coach its just bad...

That's why I said you all need to get rid of the queen if you want a successful football program! she doesn't know anything about football or able to choose people who know anything about it to make jsu dominant in the swac. Our president is the complete opposite being an SC state alum and president of the school between 2000-08ish. He is used to a successful football program. He knows the importance of getting championships and what it will do for the school. JSU needs a president who gets it and comes from a school that has been successful in football in regards to winning championships.

What jsu is doing now is making sure negative press doesn't get out about the football team so they banned the CL now that's funny lol

Record enrollment > dominant football program. That's almost ANYWHERE. You don't fire a president because of her athletics dept decisions alone.

Now, if the other things are true about her management style, then yeah that could be a problem for the university.

I know record enrollment trumps a dominant football program but JSU is in between a rock & a hard place with this one...do they want a big enrollment or dominant football program with Meyers still at the helm? she doesn't know anything about football and won't hire anyone who has a clue about it imo....

If they don't care about having a good football program don't fire Meyers cause she is good on the academics side....her & our president care dearly about academics! we are almost at 6k when it comes to enrollment and growing! We are currently in the process of building new dorms on campus cause we don't have enough for all the students who wanted to come to A&M this fall because of our academics.

IMO Jsu will never win another SWAC title with Meyers as president but they can be happy about growing enrollment, academics, etc

What bad stories is the beat writer fishing for?

I don't know what Morales' budget is, but I think he probably has to write notes, a feature, game previews and game story and follow-up after every week. If the SE wants him to incorporate players or assistants in his stories during the week, then that would be hard for him to accomplish.

I don't agree with the CL pulling coverage. That hurts the school, the football program and more importantly, the readers. I think both sides -- the paper and school -- should have tried to work it out before all this came to a head.

Jackson was the HC. We don't have a HC now, so they can talk to the interim and that's it. End of story.

Can't get rid of the queen because of Athletics. Think about that. Without athletics there will be a school but without a school there's no athletics. Academic wise Jsu is on board to over take USM within next 7 years !!!

I'll take the rise in academics .. There's about 400 athletes and 9000 Normal students . I wonder who matters the most !!! athletic or academics ?!?!?

I believe only the MS IHL can terminate the queen for "malfeasance, inefficiency, or contumacious conduct". Not sure not allowing students to talk to a newspaper qualifies.

IMO, the growth and academic rise started before Meyers, which probably has reached its peak of 10,000 students. IMO, to continue the growth and academic rise beyond 10,000 students will be the challenge that Meyers would have to meet on her own as the head person in-charge. I'm sure she will make the right decisions when it comes to stuff like domes and dorms/on-campus housing.

We fell short of 10k when we couldn't house all those students. Some of them dipped.

Lets just round it off to 10,000, but it's now up to Meyers to continue the growth, which IMO will tell us what type of REAL leader she is. Sitting in a office delegating to others 24/7 will not get the job done. She will need to see for herself if her recommendations are working.

Nope!!! The experts SHOULD be the ones making the big bucks as top administrators at our institutions of higher education, but if things end up going backwards, then they might not be the experts WE expected, which has happened a lot at our institutions of higher learning.
