Can the "D" get some love? Who has the BEST DB's coming back in the pass

I don't know many in the SWAC, but I know J-State got some of the better ones in our camp. We got a lot of depth at the corner with Cooley, Morgan, Craft and Goudy. Woulard, Dillon and McRae are natural born head bussa's at the safety spot just asks Tramon Douglas when he went across the middle and met up with Woulard in Grambling. Denmark Reed (GRAM) and Lenny Williams (SU) are okay those are the only ones who might could hang a couple of plays at J-STATE. The rest of the SWAC DB's are garbage. Another thing these guys go up against the BEST top 4 receivers in the SWAC Manning, Jones, Ross and Gordon they practice against the BEST there for they are the BEST.

WTH?

Dude you can practice against the best and still be garbage. Maybe you need to think about that for awhile.

Yall jsu folks need to get your players off the boards. This must be the new discipline 1-9 has installed.....

:shame:

Why would anyone from Jackson State bring back up that game? All the rest of that nonsense was left out and ignored for good reason.

You can always tell a crab ..... Denmark Reed, coming back?

READ A DAMN NEWSPAPER!

Bell, get these guys off the computer and get them to the Jackson Public Library!

Lenny Williams just okay? Surely you jest. He is the best corner in the SWAC and definitely a NFL prospect. There is no DB on JSU's roster on his level. :shame:

Typically, UAPB has NFL calibre safeties (based on recent draft selections). I believe Alcorn has a returning cornerback who has gotten some pre-season mention (unfortunately, I can't remember the name). SU has Lenny Williams (an excellent cover guy), Kevin Moffit (good special teams player and blitzer last season) plus the kid De'Angelo Lewis ? who had a good Bayou Classic game. Other than that around the league, I'm not sure about.

At Grambling, we should be pretty strong and deep in the secondary. We return starters Erin Bridges (a converted corner) at free safety (replaced Denmark Reed near the end of the season), Michael Daigre SS (returning leading tackler...2nd overall last year), Octavious Bond (cb) a former transfer from UK where he started at Strong Safety...he was MVP of last year's SCG with 3 interceptions. A good athlete (Doug gave him reps at wide receiver last year) who also served as punt/kickoff returner. The other starting corner is Seneca Lee a former starter from ULM who was their interception leader and one of their top tacklers. Looked good as a cover guy in Spring camp. The nickel back will probably be Travis Massey who started the first three games last season prior to a season ending knee injury. Lots of depth from Jermaine Mills, Antwan Barnes, Michael Gilbert, Chris Williams and Terry Cooper who also doubles as an outside linebacker/rush specialist in the blitz package.

Hands down, the best returing DB in the SWAC is Lenny Williams. There isn't a better cover man in the conference right now.

Lenny Williams is good, but he can't cover the secondary by himself. JSU has some young guys who performed well when they were thrown into the fire last year. With our depth and experience, our pass D will be the best in the SWAC.

Williams has been legit from day one. Pete landed a good one out of Lake Charles with this kid. He was an opening game starter as a freshman...that doesn't happen at cornerback too often. Each year he seems to have gotten better.
With the DI-AA all-star game this year, he might get a chance to show his skills in the post-season. A good year overall and he might get a look for the Senior Bowl or something.

I hope he's smart enuff to avoid being matched against Tramon in the Bayou Classic...wouldn't want him to hurt his draft chances trying to chase Tramon :D

Please Lenny Williams is a joke. Did you see him in the Dome against us last year? Let's just say that if he and Tim Manning were in jail, Tim would have made him sit down and pee. Get what I'm saying? And the Bayou Classic was more about the receivers messing up moreso than the db's doing the job. Williams may not be All-SWAC by preseason's end.

I would have to agree. We feasted on Lenny all night. Everyone keeps talking about how good this dude is supposed to be, and I even see Gram peeps supporting this... so I just keep quiet on the subject. Maybe he just has a problem defending JSU guys.... I don't know... but it was real ugly in the dome. I felt sorry for Lenny.

Mike Bigg... in another post (I think) you were talking about a good DB from Lorman, but couldn't think of his name....

Tyrone Parsons...

Well..... then-freshman Cletis Gordon abused him in Jackson last year as well. I was saying to myself "Is this the DB that supposed to be good?"

This is not smack.

Oh well...

Lenny Williams is over-rated. He is good, dont get me wrong, but he is not what you guys are making him out to be. I know this is Manning dogging him in the Dome, but Williams has yet to do anything to impress me. But he is one of the best in the SWAC...but thats not saying much.

I think JSU has the best DBs in the SWAC.
With Goudy, Morgan, and Cooley on the corner
And with January covering the whole field at FS
and Lamont Woulard and Dillion laying the wood over the middle...

JSU has the best secondary hands down.

BTW...January would be the starting QB for every other team in the SWAC.

Alcorn has all their starting DB's returning. Tyrone Parson and Tim Batts, and Chris Lee forms a solid group with experience. The BRAVES returns seven starters on defense. LaTraia Jones will make them the best unit in the SWAC.

You also have to look out for RSF Vincent Dancy, going about 6-1, 205. He is on the second unit at FS behind Woulard. He is also a good cover guy and can play anywhere on the field. He should see a lot of time this season.

Prodigy,

Not making excuses for Parson. He was hurt and shouldn't have played the last two games of the year.

That is beyond sad.

seriously!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

but then again, it's very typical for you to say stuff like that BEFORE the season starts. so far, you're claiming the best secondary, the best linebackers, the best coach, the best receivers..... the same crap you did last year and the year before and the year before....... :smh:

the same damn thang EVERY year and you get the same damn crappy results EVERY year!!!

it's really _ _ _ that you aint learned your lesson yet. If only you had "the good sense".

GR, since the past has meaning to you. Isn't this the unit that was victimize by the SWAC last year. I watched this unit against A&T leave a receiver uncovered two plays in a row. To make matters worse, they left him open a third time for a TD.

Leave it to the dayum mafia to not be able to have an impartial comment about anything.

Lenny Williams isn't a good cover corner? And yall are basing this only on the JSU game? I mean he is a corner, that doesn't mean he can't be beat. But the guy has talent and he has skill. Plus he has the speed to stay with most WR's. If Lenny isn't the best DB in the SWAC right now, then tell me who is. And don't just keep giving me the same song and dance by naming every player on the JSU roster like you people do every year.

Just because you can name the players on your roster doesn't make them great. And if we want to talk about single games. I have seen the JSU DB's tourched by Bama St. and GSU the last 2 years. But I am supposed to fall for the okey doke that they are great? Yeah right......

But what should I expect, you are Buffalo....

Actually, he has been pretty consistent (I think he is one of the few true freshmen to start at SU). I like his style and attitude. He showed his @$$ in the Bayou Classic. I would give him the moniker as the best DB in the SWAC. Man, I can not beleive I wrote that.

GR, hate to tell you bruh, but that's Randy Williams in your picture, and not Lenny.

Lenny had a bad game against JSU, and you guys say he's not good, but yet Bruce Eugene passed for how many yards on JSU, to how many different recievers, and you say JSU has the best secondary in the SWAC????

That is, since we're basing everything on ONE game.

NICE

This is pitiful. GR, the gap in talent between Gram and J-State is sort of like the series gap of all time wins between the Icon and J-State.

All of Icon Gram's WRs ran routes like they were uncontested. I think TP still has tears in his eyes. It looked as if Icon Gram was about three years ahead of J-State last (no smack). Judging from 2001 and 2002 games this number is increasing. Tears should be rollin in the wells of your eyes!!!!

Lenny Williams send help!!! OOOOOOOOOOO,
